Resting on the good old ICE (internal combustion engine) for so long now means we havent given the effort to improve things like battery life and safety the way we should have. The Drive America ego seems to be more in the way of technical progress than anything else. Big fat cars and trucks that can carry a lot and/or go fast has a lot more to do with our culture than our real needs. I’ll bet 75% of Americans would do just fine with an electric or hybrid car or truck. Ive driven a prius several times lately and it averages 42 mpg when Im in it. For some odd reason when other coworkers drive it it averages in the low 30s.

The ICE mates nicely with our culture. Big fast loud bloated inefficient wasteful heavy overinflated. It is symbolic of our vision of ourselves. Big tough and proud.

That attitude got us here. But now cant we mix a strong measure of sense with that attitude and evolve away from this unhealthy somewhat atavistic way?
