Yep. As I always reminded my officemate - this country went downhill once they let the Irish in, ‘cause if you let them in, then you gotta let folks like my Yiddish forebears in. So you see, it’s all the Irishers fault.

Ah, they only let in the Irish because they’d already let in the Germans.

(Ben Franklin, BTW, fretted about German-language schools. Stress about bilingual education goes way back in this country. As you can see, he was correct, the Germans never learned English, or assimilated, and really haven’t become Americans. //////)
