The main problem is the thing that destroyed Stillson in the end is something Trump could probably skate through easily in this climate.

What destroyed Stillson in the end was using a baby as a human shield, something that not even the most blood-obsessed of the wingnut death cult would truck with.

Now, had he grabbed another adult and used them to shield himself? He’d have suffered a good bit of political fallout, but probably would have remained a viable candidate because of excuse-making about how “valuable” his life was.
