Gambling addictions don’t hit everybody who gambles, so it’s not equivalent to crack cocaine.

Here’s the summary of an independent study on the economic costs of gambling. The net effect on society & the economy are overwhelmingly negative.

Let’s assume that study is completely correct. Does is matter? Casinos are a business. You have the choice whether or not to go there. People will engage in all sorts of destructive behaviors no matter what. Doesn’t the consumer of the casino services bear the responsibility for their behavior? Do we blame whipped cream manufacturers for the kids who do whippits? Or Gillette when someone commits suicide with a razor blade?
