Oh, yeah. I still remember the first time I saw it. Went to the movieplex with a date to see the acclaimed “Blue Lagoon.” It was sold out. The adjoining theater had “Airplane,” which I had never heard of.
Couldn’t have been more than 10 people in the audience for “Airplane.” What I remember most is that, for the first 30 minutes or so, nobody laughed, just sat there with ‘WTF?’ looks.
In retrospect, I guess we had no idea what to expect, so the first part went right over our heads. A movie that was way ahead of its time, I think.
I saw it on the bigs creen , me and my twisted buddy were in stitches.
But most folks were not laughing, bet they thought we were weird.
