Had a friend who lived on his sail boat in SF when the Loma Preita quake hit. He was standing on his dock looking across the harbor just before the quake hit. He said all the fish jumped out of the water at the same time. He thought it was the weirdest thing he ever saw, and then the shock came. Obviously the fish were more sensitive to vibration and could sense the high frequencies that precede the jolt. BTW, I’ve lived in California my whole life and have been through quite a few quakes.
