I had a goal at one time of reading at least one book from every author. I read the Dubliners, and decided that since it was good, I would also read Portrait. Barely. Made. It. Through.
I had the same experience when reading World According to Garp (great), and a Prayer for Owen Meany (just not interesting to me).
I love short stories. As for Hemingway, I preferred The Sun Also Rises to the Old Man and the Sea. The Sun Also Rises inspired my trip to Espana a few years ack.
