Do you use your credit card at a restaurant ever? How about to pay for gas? Buy groceries? Your card is just as exposed, in fact more so at those places, then using your credit card at the iTunes store.

Nope. I only use my credit card in emergencies. I do not use in normal daily transactions. For the very reason you describe.

Downloading stuff off itunes is great. I resisted for many months even after having an iPhone. I only download free apps and music. Then late one night, probably drunk, I started downloading songs from iTunes and was shocked at how easy and convenient it was. I’m sold on it and have no problems with Apple having my credit card #.

I don’t buy stuff online. Period. It’s an eccentricity of mine.

I’ve never entered my credit card number into my computer, and I never will. (Until Big Brother makes me, at least.)
