I’m currently reading Stephen Jay Gould and the Politics of Evolution. What’s nice is the author does away with the marxist bit right away. States Gould was a left of center moderate due to marixism’s radicalism, and Gould was not a radical. I think a lot of the more science-y lizards would like this book.

Gould was one of the great science writers for the public. He made evolutionary theory not only accessible, but lyrical. He was never the in-your-face atheist that Dawkins has become (which is a shame, because Dawkins, as a science writer, is also killler bee - read The Ancestor’s Tale for the most cogent explanation of modern evolutionary thinking available).
