So….I guess I picked either the exact wrong time or the exact right time to come back, after some days to breathe.

All I can say is, much like Sargent, the most telling thing isn’t the celebrations of the verdict but the celebrations of the act.

The language gives it away, they call him ‘Hero’. Not ‘survivor’, as someone might think of more if they were literally attacked the way that they claim Rittenhouse was, nor other less loaded language (you know, loaded language like ‘victim’….). They call him a ‘hero’. Not for what he survived, but for what he did, what act he committed. They’re celebrating the murders and assaults because ‘they had it coming’. And now they have their carte blanche.

You see it in the language, declaring everything similar to what happened that night, or even tamer as ‘riots’, and the people present as ‘rioters’, especially in defense of them being attacked. It’s all so they have their justification, their excuse to go on a spree at any protest that offends them, and see themselves lionized because they didn’t kill ‘people’. They killed ‘rioters’, ‘thugs’, etc. I mean….look at the bloodlust that lead to laws that legalize running over protesters if you proclaim enough ‘fear of my life’.

And before anyone asks, no, I’m not going to arm myself in response to feel safe. Guns don’t make me feel safe. Guns make me feel terrified, and ownership of a gun would make me feel even more terrified.

So that said…what do we do? I’m still waiting for that answer, especially seeing people I respected elsewhere either gleefully dancing in reaction to this, or finding new ways to spin it into ‘Fuck The Democrats, they caused this’. And the number of answers just feel like they keep shrinking.
