That is a HUGE misconception.

You can indeed continue to sign up after March.
The March “deadline” is to avoid the penalty. Nothing stops anyone from signing up after the March “deadline”.

Check that—IIRC after the open season you need exceptional life changes—marriage, birth, etc to get in that year.
