Don’t know much, if anything, about ‘Censusgate’, but the mention of American ‘frugality’ persisting in spite of a better jobs market may simply reflect an attitude which will persist after a major financial sector collapse. I’m no economist but if wages don’t match growth (and things are getting better) people won’t spend as much. Similar climate here.
Why spend more on wages and create more disposable income when you can always cut costs? Disease of austerity at work.
