I am not going to downding this; it’s a good point.

First, we didn’t know back then that Wahhabism was going to hit us so hard, as they were still our allies, or potential allies, against Iraq, Iran, and the Soviets; second, you’d received an order from your superiors to accept the thing. I don’t think any less of the grunts who accepted that medal.

Knowing what I know now, I’d say the brass should not have allowed their soldiers to accept a medal from Saudi, or Kuwait, or any other unfree nation. The war wasn’t about them anyway.
