If we have to pull rank with one another, I suggest this: Take your karma and divide it by your number of posts, once you’ve posted a statistically meaningful number of them. The result is a measure of the esteem you’re held in by the community. If the result is greater than 1, then I don’t know, we can put an oak leaf cluster in our profiles or something.

That wouldn’t work either. Karma is only as healthy as the web community handing it out. We’ve had posters with exceptionally high karma who were tools and are now banned. We’ve also had very nice inoffensive posters like avanti who had really negative karma for a while.

Also— didn’t the karma rating system come in after registration? What I’m getting at is, I think posters who racked up comments before karma are at a disadvantage compared to those of us, like myself, who registered once karma was in play. We always had a better chance to at least ‘break even’ in terms of karma matching number of posts, that is.

Karma is basically a way for the community to police itself, nothing more.
