…Does Derpowitz even know how the criminal justice system works? Accused criminals are held pending trial if they’re a flight risk or a risk for committing additional crimes in the interim. That’s how the bail process is supposed to work. You pay a fine, you get to go free until your trial, but if you fuck up, they revoke your bail and you’re back in the can. And then they’re really not nice because they tend to frown on that.
