We haven’t even managed a single semester yet without schools needing to quarantine students/staff. You have schools being picketed and their staff being harassed for requiring masks and distancing. There’s enormous pressure to go back to “normal” for school sports.

It’s always easy to make demands when it’s not you or yours in danger.

The children who are suffering most because of distance learning are minorities. As an African-American, and someone who attended San Francisco public schools, she’s probably pretty sensitive to that issue.

On the other side, San Francisco has now reached category orange, the second best level in California. With a population of about 880,000, it has a .9% rate of positive tests, and had 25 new cases today (numbers have been dropping steadily since late August.). There is a total of 29 hospitalized patients. That, and the problems with distance learning, are what is driving the conflict here.

I seriously doubt that school sports are much of a factor — all the pressure I’ve seen about school sports has been at college level.
