The time for house cleaning is now! We’ll be coming up on midterms soon, after that a general election. Sadly, nobody is going to take up the task.

For American “conservatism” to shed its racist/xenophobic elements is a large challenge.

Yes, there are many Americans who don’t adhere to the strong progressive leanings of the new political leaders, yet that is hardly a solid starting point for a new reactionary political force, exactly because the Pat Buchanans of American Conservatism still hang on and are influencing the political conversation.

I for one believe that xenophobia is a tragedy that is too easily embraced. Fear of the other lies at the root of all sorts of nastiness.
