My admittedly non-expert understanding is that the heat simply from fires started by the crash, with jet fuel and such, would have been sufficient to compromise the structure enough to cause the collapse. especially if the planes damaged things to start with.

Primarily the jet fuel but then you add the materials in the 767s themselves; reams of paper and files within the building; non-fire rated drywall (fire rated drywall is not required in all walls); carpets; rubber carpet padding; carpet cement; painted surfaces; boxes; wiring and wire encasement; conduits; ceiling tiles; floor coverings other than carpet; etc.
