If you would do some basic research you will find that the original leader of ISIL/ISIS was “Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.” He was the leader of one of the Al-Qaeda in Iraq factions fighting on the anti-government side in the Syrian civil war. ISIS / ISIL has also gotten help recently from the same Sunni Awakening Council members who did the bulk of the heavy lifting that Bush credited to his Surge. Unfortunately Bush wasn’t interested in ensuring that an inclusive, competent government was installed in Iraq, so the Awakening Councils and Sunnis in general became hugely alienated from Al Maliki’s dysfunctional crony bullshit regime.
