I actually am fearing for myself over what the nutcases in the Republican party are saying here. Granted, I had a rough week, but still….

Honestly, I get scared too. I’m an atheist with a 2-ton Buddha in the yard, surrounded by the Rapture-ready. I live near a church that literally curses my family in the pews.

The thing is, you have to assay your own fear and not let it control you. I do a lot of self talk, and a lot of conscious exercise of apatheia .

What it comes down to is, yes, there is a basis for concern, but anger and panic won’t help. Calm and attention to detail are the best way to go. Even if shit gets worse, still better to be calm. Anger is a cheap substitute for actual clarity of thought.

ETA: Also, people are not as awful as they seem through the spectrum of politics. Look for the helpers, as Mr. Rogers would say.

And I say all that realizing it’s way easier to say than do. Oh so much. I would say you are trying and succeeding on the basis of your board behavior, so also don’t balance your awareness of error with a tally of your successes…which will feel weird, since “success” in this case has no fanfare.
