I know, I have similar issues with my son. Only his thing is hardcore metal music and by god if you don’t like that then, well, he just can’t relate to you or your choices are dumb or wrong or, GAH! And then he wonders why he can’t find a girlfriend or make lasting friendships. I mean, he’s doing better socially, but the only common ground he has with people is music. He literally knows nothing at all about the people he hangs out with except their music preferences. Do they go to school? Have siblings? Where do they work? Middle name? Favorite food or color? Stuff you should have a clue about, but he doesn’t and won’t find out. It’s stubbornness, but it’s also the ASD taking over. It’s frustrating to watch when you know it’s possible for them to work on it. I worry all the time about him getting hurt physically or being alone forever with no one who has his back once I’m gone. I’d like to do something else sometime. grrrr.
