I’ve found Biblical literalists use the Bible as a series of “just-so” stories to explain why things are the way they are, or to justify why things shouldn’t be different (coz God ordained it that way). Which is basically why the books were written in the first place.

But the approach is not to study the Bible as a whole and in light of Biblical scholarhip, but to cherry pick isolated bits of scripture to justify preceonceived notions about society, like “Supply-Side Jesus”.
