I think it’s a believable hypothesis; if your entire campaign is built on being a WINNER! then how do you explain being a LOSER in your very first actual election ever? (This is one reason to miss the old straw polls that allowed campaigns to flex their muscles before the delegate contests; we really have no idea whether the Defenders of the White Race will actually show up to vote for their man.)
