No.
The gal was apparently invited by our religion department to speak. The consensus I've heard is that the nun who invited her did not realize what we were in for.
The dean only found out about how awful it was because some of the other administrators urged him to look in, knowing that the anti-American components of the talk, in particular, would make him go bananas. I think this was discussed by the admin, not in my presence.
I'm staying out. I'm a part-time employee in my first year. No one asked me, and I don't get the impression this woman is getting asked back.

Man's penis injured in grinder accident
A man whose penis met an ill fate with a grinder in Brisbane's north this afternoon has been rushed to hospital.
It is understood the 23-year-old was working in Northgate when he was injured just after 2pm.
A Department of Emergency Services spokeswoman could not identify the type of grinder that had injured the man or detail how he came in contact with the device.
Although the extent of his injuries is not known, paramedics who treated the man at the scene were able to stem the bleeding.

'What happened?' she asked with a look of concern on her face.
'Well...you see, I got suckered into a dare with one of the guys' he sheepishly began to explain.
'What kind of dare?' her concern was beginning to give way to impatience.
'uh...well....bascally, the guys dared me to go ahead and stick my crank in the pickle slicer.'
'And did you?'
'Yea....and just to make it even worse, that's just when the manager walks in.'
'I see....and what did they wind up doing with the pickle slicer?' the wife asked.
There was an awkward pause before he answered.

And good ole Harry Reid put the kibbosh on that to make himself look good to his Nevada constituents.
The Democrats have never really been interested in the use of Nuclear power, even though France, France uses it to generate something over 70% of their nation's total electrical energy.
I'm all in favor of alternative forms of energy and agree from a national security viewpoint that we need to be energy independent but Obama and the Dems are only interested in (relatively) untested or loaded with practical problems alternative energy like Solar, windmill and other things. Well Wind power hasn't really shown that it can be used on anything resembling a wide-scale basis and the same with Solar (though we're closer with solar than anything except nuclear which has proven itself over and over and over again).
Obama and the Dems are just jerking us around when they talk about energy independence - if y'all listen to Obama when he talks about it, he NEVER mentions Nuclear Power.

Deep space disposal is not practical. The shielding necessary to protect the waste in the case of a launch failure is heavy, and you might as well just bury it in that shielding and save the launch cost.
The best place is in subduction zones, where, by the time the containers fail, it will be buried for millions of years. But that is banned by international treaty.

Putz.
some interesting commentary on alternative power, especially solar, here.

re: #85 BobibutuLOL! Thanks for that one Bobibutu! I can't diagram anything relating to the use of nuclear power to generate electricity, but I do know that the FRENCH use it to generate over 70% of their electrical needs.
That says to me that anyone who wants to seriously discuss alternative energy (alternative to fossil fuel) who doesn't START with, much less mention Nuclear Power is an idiot or a politician (pardon the redundancy).
And Obama has made speeches where he HAS talked about energy Independence and talked about wind and solar and even geothermal but never ONCE mentioned Nuclear power - the single greatest WORKING source of alternative power that we know of, because Dingy Harry Reid doesn't want the disposal to be in Yucca Flats and the enviroweenies who support him also don't want us to pollute space by chucking the waste up there (assuming we could).
He's a politician. And he's a Dem politician, which means it'll take an oil embargo lasting YEARS before he'll even consider building nuclear reactors here.

Something I thought was interesting. While watching the House Sub-committee hearing on something last week, my new congress critter, Mr. Foster, asked the rep from the GAO about "smart guns" for Afghani police. It seems they are having a heck of a time organizing themselves over there. There is a problem with gun theft as the country is very poor and the weapon issued to the newly minted police officer is often the most valuable thing he owns. Foster thought that implementing "smart gun" technology would eliminate the ability for the guns to be sold on the black market. (I won't pontificate on my thoughts on "smart guns".)
Anyway, the rep from the GAO said that, YES, indeed there was money in the budget for research into such technologies.
hmmm . . .

Drive-by on the way to sleep post...we were at our daughter and son in laws' to see the almost 2 1/2 year old toddler.
A Mummy and Daddy, Nana and Grampa cannot expend the energy 1 normal sized 2 year old can. It is impossible. And we cannot, and do not have to, as grandparents keep a straight face.....he can play his audience to perfection.
Holding him in my lap, in the rocking chair, while reading him 2 of his books (he gets 3 each night), and having him fall asleep on me? And NY Grampa got to read a book to him too. This transcends anything else in our lives, and somehow the worries about The One and what he is doing, and the effect on all of us, our kids, grandkids, etc. were lifted off our shoulders by his sweetness..and what it felt like to cuddle and fall asleep. We hated to leave!
I am off to sleep, and will sleep soundly, as will NY Grampa...this kind of exhaustion is the very best!
We all can only pray that somehow this snake oil salesman will somehow be impeached, and that we get our country back....and that the crap he is spewing will finally awaken those who were dumb enough to vote for The One...our kids, grandkids and coming generations depend on us to get this mess straightened out. And we are able to if we all work together, with the images of the little ones in our mind. We owe it to them.

Scientists find bugs that eat waste and excrete oil
June 16th, 2008 %P% Published in Energy, Current Events, Science
From Engadget:
Like the beginning of every great science fiction movie, experts claim that they’ve discovered a cure for our fuel-dependency woes that only requires an army of genetically modified bacteria… that eat wheat straw and excrete crude oil. You read that right: scientists have created bugs which are able to snack on woodchips or sugar cane and produce waste in the form of easily malleable oil. Not only are the buggers capable of creating a byproduct which can quickly be refined into fuel for vehicles, but scientists say the process is carbon-negative — it outputs less carbon than is required to produce it. Director of the project — dubbed LS9 — Greg Pal says that barrel prices could run as low as $50, and that the company plans to have a commercial facility producing the crude in 2011.
It’s strange living in a world where you can’t discern fact from fiction.

"Your people" was, apparently, the African-American population of DC, and what they had done was elect or reelect Mr. Barry. Why Grandma felt that she herself had nothing to do with this remains unclear. ;)

Right. What could go wrong. Also look at Philadelphia, Camden, Trenton, Chicago, New York, Baltimore, and DC. Yep, what could go wrong. What model cities.
'Elp!
You left out Detroit for some peculiar reason. Did they ever find a replacement for the illustrious Kwame Kilpatrick?
Honorable mentione: Oakland

i was waiting for a second on what seemed to me to be an inspired solution.
"we" would vote for it ... but I don't think our Congress-critters would.
Time for torches and pitchforks?

I am all for darwinian solutions, unfortunately the truly stupid and moronic tend to levy a lot of collateral damage. There's a reason why it's so hard to get a pilots liscence.

Google Your Black Muslim Bakery and/or Chauncey Bailey sometime. It's like Putin's Russia, Mugabe's Zimbabwe and a little bit of Somalia thrown in for good measure....

I've been to Oakland before. Other than the art museum the rest of the place is what they used to call disgusting.

One season in Alaska - summer x twice a day = good to go.

Syracuse, Albany...
I have family in the Albany area (not the city itself, but that little swath of upstate NY between the Hudson River and Massachusetts).
For all it's faults, seems a little unfair to lump Albany into the same category as D.C., Detroit, Oakland or New Orleans.
Holy shit!? How could I have forgotten the Big Queasy!?

East LA is Hispanic, and for the most part, part of Lost Angels itself, not a separate city.

Yeah, OK, I was stretching things a bit with Albany perhaps. I was trying to associate a few cities. Not much work in Albany unless you apply for State work.

I dug Jack London Square in Oakland- just set up shop in the Pizzareia Uno and watched all the trains chug by down the middle of the street.

Some parts are, I suppose, lovely but they're way overpriced like most anything in the East Bay. I don't know why but most of the Bay Area seems like it's on "Life Support."

"they" are the type of voters that have consistently elected the long running type of local politicians that have run down all of the cities named.... no specific ethnic group meant or implied, if that was what you were getting at.

Pat Metheny has always been one of my favorites. One of my bandmates in our high school big band turned me on to him in 1978. The first time I saw him was on a PBS special shortly thereafter, and I've seen him at three different venues in the Denver area since. Minuano is one of my favorite pieces of his, too. Very nice indeed.

I was fortunate enough to be asked by Bruce Hornsby to come into the studio with Pat on Bruce's sessions for his record Hot House.
What a time that was....sitting amongst mmusicl giants and watching them work was quite humbling.

I've always loved Pat's rant about Kenny G.
"...He, in one move, through his unbelievably pretentious and calloused musical decision to embark on this most cynical of musical paths, shit all over the graves of all the musicians past and present..."
210 | Caboose Thu, Feb 26, 2009 9:11:37am |
Started listening to Metheny around the time of American Garage, those Airstreams on the front cover just had this appeal... I think I first heard him on a Continental Air flight back from Austin, TX. Only saw him live three times, once at Merriwether Post Pavilion and twice at Wolf Trap. Don't do the concert thing much any more, too expensive and generally not willing to put up with the hassle.
I also like the Canadian "PM", Brian Hughes. Check him out! (His first release, "Between Dusk & Dreaming" is his most Metheny-ish, but all of them are good on their own.)
