Lincoln a death blow on labor bill?
If Sen. Arlen Specter’s blunt opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act was a blow to Big Labor’s top priority this year, Sen. Blanche L. Lincoln’s announcement Monday may be the final nail in the coffin.
Lincoln (D-Ark.) told a Little Rock political gathering Monday afternoon that she couldn’t support the divisive labor bill, which would make it much easier for workers to unionize. Without the support of a key Southern Democrat like Lincoln, it’s not clear how EFCA gets 60 votes in the Senate.
“I cannot support that bill,” Lincoln said, according to Arkansas Business. “Cannot support that bill in its current form. Cannot support and will not support moving it forward in its current form.”
Anyone want to guess which southern state senator is expecting a serious competitor this coming election?

Obama's journey to Iraq begged the question of why he chose to visit a war that is ending rather than Afghanistan, where the fight promises to drag on for years.

Some company watchers have been wondering about the downgrade rights that Microsoft will offer when Windows 7 ships. When AppleInsider reported this weekend that HP was going to offer Windows 7 users the ability to downgrade to XP, I asked Microsoft about the story.

Obama team warns U.S. lawmakers: Expect confrontation with Israel
By Aluf Benn
Tags: Palestinian, Netanyahu, Obama
In an unprecedented move, the Obama administration is readying for a possible confrontation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by briefing Democratic congressmen on the peace process and the positions of the new government in Israel regarding a two-state solution.
The Obama administration is expecting a clash with Netanyahu over his refusal to support the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Clearly, the writer is writing from a different planet. On his world, the troops only give joyous receptions to Obama, but were staid for Bush, when they weren't throwing shoes at him.
Obama's reception as the president who is ending the highly unpopular Iraq war could not have contrasted more starkly with the staid, set-piece visits by the conflict's author, former President George W. Bush.On his last visit, Bush had to duck as a local journalist threw his shoes at the former president during a news conference with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The video tape continues to play repeatedly on cable television, interspersed for contrast with Obama working the crowd of 600 troops who assembled for a warmest of welcomes for a president who is sending them home.
Please to ignore that the troops are not Iraqi journalists. It messes up the picture he is painting.
On this planet; however, there are these two videos.

Here's a song for the young monk in the picture: "Skellig," by Loreena McKennitt (different faith tradition, but describes similar life):
O light the candle, John
The daylight has almost gone
The birds have sung their last
The bells call all to mass
Sit here by my side
For the night is very long
There's something I must tell
Before I pass along
I joined the brotherhood
My books were all to me
I scribed the words of God
And much of history
Many a years was I
Perched out upon the sea
The waves would wash my tears;
The wind, my memory
I'd hear the ocean breathe
Exhale upon de shore
I knew the tempest's blood
Its wrath I would endure
And so the years went by
Within my rock cell
With only a mouse or bird
My friend; I loved them well
And so it came to pass
I'd come here to Romani
And many a year it took
Till I arrived here with thee
On dusty roads I walked
And over mountains high
Through rivers running deep
Beneath the endeless sky
Beneath these jasmine flowers
Amidst these cypress tress
I give you now my books
And all their mysteries
Now take the hourglass
And turn it on its head
For when the sands are still
Tis then you'll find me dead
O light the candle, John
The daylight is almost gone
The birds have sung their last
The bells call all to mass

Just saw this on Fox news
[Link: www.foxnews.com...]
WASHINGTON -- Former Cuban President Fidel Castro was "very engaging, very energetic," U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, a California Democrat, said following a congressional delegation's meeting with the ailing revolutionary where a wide range of issues were discussed.
Castro met Tuesday with three members of the Congressional Black Caucus in his first known meeting with American officials since he fell ill in July 2006.
Lee was joined in her meeting with the 82-year-old Castro by Rep. Laura Richardson, D-Calif., and Rep. Bobby Rush, D. Ill.
The trio was part of a delegation of six Democratic representatives who left Havana on Tuesday after a five-day trip designed to encourage dialogue between the United States and Cuba, amid much speculation long-chilly relations may improve.
The U.S. delegation -- all Democrats -- also included Reps. Mel Watt of North Carolina, Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, Marcia Fudge of Ohio and Mike Honda of California. All are also member of the Congressional Black Caucus except Honda.
Castro issued a statement saying that one member of the delegation, who he does not name, described American society as "racist" and said that former Secretary of State Colin Powell could have been president but his family rightly talked him out of it because of fear that he would be assassinated like Martin Luther King, Jr.
Castro said that one unnamed member of the delegation told him that Obama "can not go beyond liberalizing travel and allowing remittances by Cuban-Americans, because proclaiming the lifting of the blockade or the full normalization of bilateral relations could mean the impossibility for him to be re-elected. Besides, he reaffirmed that the anti-Cuban right wing still has enough power to corner him and prevent his re-election," Castro said.

No. He could easily be a Brit like Richard Reid. Nationality is just one factor in maintaining vigilance. Behavior is equally important. And reconnaissance would be a totally expected precursor behavior to look out for.

Eggs were probably easy to figure out-the early human forebears watched to see what other scavenger types could easily find to eat.....Lobsters might've taken some figuring out.

Well, so much for serenity:
Ward Cleaver -
Those "BLACK CAUCUS MEMBERS" should be Horsewhipped by their Community. Bad and Corrupt as he was, Fulgencio Batista was actually a "Mixed-Race" North American President - FIFTY (50) years before President Obama. The degree of his "mix" was such that he was denied membership in the Havana Yacht Club - As President of Cuba!
Since the 1959 Revolution, Cuba got the Argentine Ernesto "Che" Guevara, the best posthumous T-Shirt Salesman in the word, as President of the Bank of Cuba - Failure, leading Cuban Troops in Africa - Failure, Trying to lead a South American Revolution, (...mmmm, the InkWell in Long Branch, NJ comes to mind - A Starbucks before there was Starbucks!) - Failure, tried to save his skin when captured, shot dead by the locals as if HE were a Prisoner in La Cabana. He was a racist, white supremicist - read his writings
The Castro Regime is much the same. Fidel, the guy that wrote FDR to borrow TEN BUCKS - the letter is at Hyde Park - Raul, his younger brother are BOTH remnants of a dying regime. Tell the Black Caucus Members to request a meeting with Dr. Biscet (They Won't Do It Without Prodding as they are Socialists FIRST, LAST and ALWAYS) - A Proud "Afro-Cuban" Doctor - AS IN M.D. - Jailed for many years for his politics. Until they do, they are just SHILLS for US Economic interests who want to sell the Castro regime stuff ON CREDIT - with the US Taxpayer on the hook if (Really When!) the Castro Regime fails to pay. That is all - FOR NOW!

FORT WAYNE, INDIANA "TEA PARTY" APRIL 18th
Nesara is listed under their "Documents every liberty minded individual should read"April 15 2009 Indianapolis Tea Party -- New Details
The Indiana Tea Party is in an "activist coalition" With Nesara.

Thanks! It's a little odd getting up in the morning and only have me to get ready! I miss the noise and chaos at home. I found out my husband had my oldest make dinner tonight because he just couldn't figure out how to do it with the other stuff going on (ha ha!). I laughed thinking I'd be making dinner, folding laundry, making sure the dogs got chow. I think I'll be appreciated a bit more when I get home, plus its good for my oldest to take on a bit more responsibility and find that there is actual work involved in running a house.

What exactly is Nesara? I googled it, but still don't get it.
Here's there plan from a few years back:
1. Restores Constitutional Law in America as of NESARA’s public announcement.
2. Removes US administration officials and all members of the US Congress from their positions due to their continuous unconstitutional actions. Bush, Cheney, Cabinet members, and all members of Congress are immediately removed from office by NESARA’s public announcement; specific law enforcement personnel shall physically remove Bush government officials from their offices. These removals allow a fresh start at the national level. Using the Constitutional Line of Succession, NESARA installs Constitutionally acceptable NESARA President and Vice President Designates until new federal elections can take place within six months after NESARA’s announcement.
3. Because NESARA abolishes unconstitutional states of emergency, NESARA’s public announcement declares “peace”. US military in Iraq and Afghanistan are immediately recalled to the USA.
4. As partial remedy for 90 years of government and banking fraud, NESARA requires zeroing out of credit card balances and bank debt relief be given to Americans.
5. Initiates the US Treasury Bank System with new U.S. Treasury currency backed by gold. The Federal Reserve is abolished; Federal Reserve facilities and most personnel are absorbed into the US Treasury Bank System.
6. Abolishes Income Taxes in US and creates a national sales tax on new, non-essential items as revenue for government. Essential items such as food and medicine, and used items, are exempt from the sales tax.

N
ESARA - National Economic Security And Reformation ActForgives credit card, mortgage, and other bank debt due to illegal banking and government activities
Abolishes income tax
Abolishes IRS; creates flat rate non-essential "new items only" sales tax revenue for government
Increases benefits to senior citizens
Returns Constitutional Law
Establishes new Presidential and Congressional elections within 120 days after NESARA's announcement
Monitors elections and prevents illegal election activities of special interest groups
Creates new US Treasury currency, "rainbow currency," backed by gold, silver, and platinum precious metals
Returns Constitutional Law to all our courts and legal matters.
Initiates new U.S. Treasury Bank System in alignment with Constitutional Law
Eliminates the Federal Reserve System
Restores financial privacy
Retrains all judges and attorneys in Constitutional Law
Ceases all aggressive, US government military actions worldwide
Establishes peace throughout the world
Initiates first phase of worldwide prosperity distribution of vast wealth which has been accumulating for many decades
Releases enormous sums of money for humanitarian purposes
Enables the release of new technologies such as alternative energy devices
Sounds pretty way-out kooky to me.

A balanced schedule? Yeah, right. Just going directly to Strasbourg. No real explanation.
e had also hoped Mr Obama would agree to a meeting before attending the G20 summit in London on April 3. The French had suggested that Mr Obama fly from London to Normandy on Friday morning for a stop before the Nato summit. Instead, he is going directly to Strasbourg.
According to French reports, Mr Obama was to visit the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville-sur-mer, just north of Omaha Beach. The pair were apparently to have dined at the nearby chateau de Bénouville in Caen.

My landlord had a little problem. I was leaving and it was inconveniencing him. He renegotiated my lease for $275 less per month if I would stay with some other perks. I have the cheapest rent in my neighborhood now. On the other hand, if he gets his mess straightened out and finds someone willing to pay more, he has the option of throwing me out—but what do I care about that, I was planning to leave anyway...

Was raised to eat just about anything but I drew the line at insects, snakes, eel, frogs....well..you get the picture. :)
Eel is quite good. So are frog legs. Bugs generally don't taste like much by themselves; the texture (crunchy) is weird. Snake, I've never tried, but I imagine it's similar to alligator, another bland white meat textured pretty much like chicken.
Can't say I've had larva yet. I'd try it if it was offered - and if I saw someone else put it in their mouth first.

Except for #'s 3 and 4, sounds like a plan. It'll never happen in my lifetime because too many people are too scared to really do anything. Nobody can predict how this will play out ultimately but I do know that not pushing back is what has happened over the last 30 years or so. Methinks you're trying to paint all the Tea Parties with too broad a brush. My conservative friends who have been to these have not mentioned any kooks.
Are you trying to stop them by any chance?

How many tea parties have you been to?None.
Have you talked to Newt, one of the supporters) about it?
Oh, no. Do you think he'd take my call?
Very avantiesqe.

Killgore is absolutely right about this. The NESARA kooks are as far out as you can get. If they're organizing tea parties, we're seeing the beginning of the end of them as a viable form of protest.

Was ACORN, Soros, Wright, et al the beginning of the end for Obama? I think the kooks will get sorted out. I haven't seen any yet at the Ohio events. Time will tell.

I accept your scorn as a badge of honor.
Then wear that badge as honorably as you can, because it's the over cautious, non-commited moderates such as you who have gotten this nation in the mess we're in now.

Haven't seen any of the kooks here either. Nor in Pennsylvania. There was one recently in Chester county where one of my cousins attended. No Paulians that she mentioned. And she would have been totally weirded out by 'over-the-top' types.

How long do you think it will be before Dkos, Huffpo or the MSM get ahold of the Nesara thing? Tea parties organized by doomsday UFO cult. I know you'll still proudly attend but it isn't going to look good.

OT: Israel tests system to shoot down Iranian missiles
By MATTI FRIEDMAN, Associated Press Writer Matti Friedman, Associated Press WriterJERUSALEM – Israel successfully tested an anti-missile system designed to protect the country against Iranian attack, the Defense Ministry said, perfecting technology developed in response to failures of similar systems during the 1991 Gulf War. The intercept of a dummy missile was the 17th test of the Arrow system, a U.S.-Israeli joint venture. Israeli defense officials said the interceptor was an upgraded Arrow II, designed to counter Iran's Shahab ballistic missile.
Israel has identified Iran as its biggest threat, citing the country's nuclear program and its development of long-range ballistic missiles.
Sounds good - successfully tested - altho it still leaves a worrisome number of alternate delivery scenarios.

The one in Columbus had some outstanding sensible young college students who spoke. It was refreshing.

Since when do we care what Dkos thinks? Huffpo? Please.

I'm glad to hear that! The early one in Cleveland also had young people. That was refreshing to me as well.
As for the naysayers.
I just don't see giving up on the notion of the tea party protests out of paranoia without more research as some seem to want. Do we want kooks tainting the intent? No. But I think suggesting 'game over' until we have all the facts isn't very helpful either.
My .02 cents.

What problem? I'll keep in mind what you posted. It would be stupid not to take note, but I'm not going to throw the entire movement under the bus based on your outside observance. I've met some good people and no kooks yet. I think the patriots will rise to the top and boot any kooks that need booting. Like I said, time will tell.

Time to spend the rest of the evening with my husband and teenlet. It's still snowing and there's a toasty fireplace beckoning.
Keep up the good fight.

Why would the Germans be offended? Do they support fascism?
ciaospirit -
If I recall, GWB had no such problem in 2004. If Pres. Obama were thinking outside the box, as he is reputed to be able to do, he should have suggested that He, PM Brown, PM Harper, Pres. Sarkozy AND Chancellor Merkel meet at Normandy to honor All of the Fallen and leave the ball in Pres. Sarkozy's court.
A tribute to the fact of Peace among those Nations for the last 65 years and the resolve never to fight each other again. That is all.
