There where two snakes talking. The 1st one said ‘Sidney, are we the type of snakes who wrap ourselves around our prey and squeeze and crush until they’re dead? Or are we the type of snake who ambush our prey and bite them and they are poisioned?’. Then the second Snake says “Why do you ask?” The 1st one replies: “I just bit my lip!”

Hmmm….you may have a really valid point there. Wonder if the New York Times article had anything to do with it:
U.S. may convert banks’ bailouts to equity share
Let’s see, the Fed forces bailout money on the banks, balks at offers of repayment, then mulls over the idea of taking “equity” shares - with the concurrent control that comes along with it.
Sounds really familiar. Where have I seen this before? Wait, it’s coming to me.
Oh yeah.
Goodfellas.

Pamela Geller now promoting the BNP….
Check out her video post titled “PUSHBACK AGAINST MUSLIM EXTREMISTS IN THE UK”. Angry young men, lots of shaved heads, a little violence. Ok not that unusual. The video came from BNP blogger Lionheart. Hmmmmm…..
…In wades Peter Fehr to announce another march on Bank Holiday Monday, 13 April. In an email to supporters he does a reasonable job of organising the event, saying:
“This Demo is being well publicised all over Great Britain and over 20,000 people are expected to descend to Luton on the 13th April to show their disgust towards Muslim extremists. So please attend and bring friends, relatives and work colleges, and show your support by bringing along a Union Jack flag. The 13th is on Easter Monday, so this is a bank holiday, so no excuses, turn-up and show your support.”
On the other hand, later in the email he goes to some lengths to distance the BNP from the event, saying:
“I MUST STRESS THAT THIS DEMO IS NOT BEING ORGANIZED BY THE BNP. Please do not wear any BNP badges if you plan on going to this event.”
…A flyer for the march on the 13th was sent to the Searchlight offices on Blood and Honour notepaper. On it was a phone number, which turned out to be that of NF activist Stuart Hollingdale, the person who was jailed for three months in 1999 for daubing the Stephen Lawrence memorial with white paint. Hollingdale said that his erstwhile NF chum, none other than BNP parish councillor Simon Deacon, was briefing him on events in Luton.
Fehr’s involvement is not mentioned in either of the Star’s reports. Fehr is a former BNP activist who has supposedly “retired” from campaigning.
Surprised?

Once upon a time, a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess happened upon a frog in a pond. The frog said to the princess, ” I once was a handsome prince until an evil witch put a spell on me. One kiss from you and I will turn back into a prince and then we can marry, move into the castle with my mom and you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and forever feel happy doing so.” That night, while the princess dined on frog legs, she kept laughing and saying, “I don’t THINK so.”

Addendum….
As for the St. George’s Day event, I’ve explained some of the causes for concern about that (which is not the same as saying it should not be allowed) in previous blog entries: in particular, the main organiser is Paul Ray (”Lionheart”), an inflammatory pro-BNP blogger (”you should not judge these people who God is doing a work with and through”) who makes no distinction between moderate and extremist Muslims. Ray (who has featured on this blog a number of times, and whom even Little Green Footballs considers excessive) also expresses solidarity with a local group of football supporters called the “Luton Town MIGs“, which has a reputation for violence;

Also, while Arwen has the advantage of being immortal, that “Arwen aethereal theme music” that plays in the background whenever she’s around would get annoying as hell after a century or two.
They sure did f$%^ up the sound track in those movies, I’m constantly dicking with the volume to turn down the music and turn up the talking. My ears ain’t the best either. That gets annoying.

92 F in Sac today yma, the lab really like swimming in this weather. He’s learned to sniff out tennis balls, found three of them along the American this weekend and way off the beaten path too.
Finding tennis balls is good - saves one from spending money, and as he’ll find them you don’t need to take toys with you!
Big Dog was obsessed by balls - in his first sumemr he found all the abandoned cricket balls, in all stages of dereliction.
He sniffed out all abandoned footballs and rugby balls - they were usually stuck in the thickest bramble thickets. He wouldn’t budge, barking his ehad off, until my husband had to wade in and try and get that ball.
Big Dog was sooo proud then!
Here its still cool, around early 60s - no swimming, and only short walks on the lead as we overdid the romping, Madame and me …

Hmmmmm…..Surprised?
I was unaware that the BNP was a “whites only” political party.
Whites-Only U.K. Party Seizes on Economic Slump to Fuel Gains
By Thomas Penny and Robert HuttonMarch 10 (Bloomberg) — On their weekly visit to a local community center, Alby and Ellie Walker sip tea and swap gossip with retirees, putting a friendly face on a growing force that’s alarming the U.K. establishment: a whites-only party.
“We campaign all the time,” said Alby Walker, 51. “We never stop.”
The Walkers are councilors from Stoke-on-Trent for the British National Party, which has captured nine of the 60 local assembly seats by styling itself as a party of “community champions” and exploiting fears about immigration.
They are capitalizing on the biggest economic slump in three decades and mounting job losses. The activists are attracting support to their party — whose constitution bars all but “Indigenous Caucasian” people — in poorer districts historically allied with Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s Labour Party as they target their first seats in the European Parliament in June elections.
The British National Party (BNP) is a far-right and whites-only political party in the United Kingdom. The party is not represented in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. In the 2005 UK general election, the BNP received 0.7% of the popular vote, giving it the eighth largest share of the vote, although it was fifth overall among English seats. In the 2007 Welsh Assembly Election, it came fifth in terms of votes for the regional lists with 4.3% of the vote, winning no seats, also finishing fifth in the 2008 London mayoral election with 5.23% of the popular vote, as well as electing Mayoral candidate Richard Barnbrook to the London Assembly.

Greetings to all:
Just wanted to introduce myself, since I just registered this weekend. First and foremost, you are the most wicked group of punners I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.
Second, I am in no way related to the “JohnAdams” who posts here ;-)
Who I am: Independent minded political junkie who seeks reasonable political discourse.
Why I am here:
One phrase from your founder (paraphrased): “I am sick of all the hate.”
I have been reading blogs all across the political spectrum, and this is one of the few conservative blogs that is worth reading. IMHO, there’s too much knee-jerk partisanship out there, and I see posts on this blog that reject that. I am not afraid of disagreement (and I am sure that I will run afoul of a few here,) but I seek civility in disagreement, and I see that here.
In the interest of transparency: I vote both R and D, depending on my perception of issues and competency. I lean left on some issues, and right on others. I’m a Catholic, and a biologist (yeah, that’s caused some issues in my life.)
I look forward to reading…

The comment on that thread from Atlas Shrggs are interesting…
From GoV comments is this translation of acronyms:islam o’phobe saisd…
NF = National Front, a neo-Nazi political party.
ASBO = Anti-Social Behaviour Order. It’s a type of civil order the government uses to penalise anti-social behaviour, even if no laws have actually been transgressed.
And Baron Bodissey said…
LBC = Luton Borough Council.
…
Now lets see if other nations follow suit. It only takes one spark to start a forest fire.
The silent majority is no longer silent.
…
and further - Imagine Churchill’s reaction toward this. He’s turning in his grave.Churchill’s son needs to just shut up and let the BNP continue to advertise using Churchill in their ads. Churchill’s son needs to just shut up altogether. If his dad were alive he would flail him into shape.

Here its still cool, around early 60s - no swimming, and only short walks on the lead as we overdid the romping, Madame and me …
Ha, funny story. The “boob” aka Luke doesn’t normally play with balls at the river because I throw big sticks for him. And they must be BIG otherwise the spoiled shit won’t even chase them. SAN’A, Yemen — A Yemeni woman has been executed by firing squad for killing her husband, whom she accused of molesting their daughter.
The woman’s lawyer, Abdel-Alim al-Wafi, says she was executed Sunday in a province north of the capital, San’a.
The 40-year-old woman, Aisha al-Hamzi, had seven children. She said she killed her husband in 2002 because he molested their oldest daughter, now 14.
She was sentenced to death in 2003. Under Yemeni law, she could have been pardoned if one of her children had agreed. But the lawyer says none of her children did because of pressure from the father’s family.

To the attention of MandyManners, Nevergiveup, reine.de.tout, callahan23, and Spiritualized:
Last Saturday I posted a question about Holocaust Remembrance Day, and y’all responded. Today I called one of the lefty pastors putting on the local event. He said he will be talking about Rwanda, North Africa, Kosovo, and Native Americans, in addition to the genocide of WWII. He stated that Jews have a special place because they have been targets of genocide so many times for so long. He also said genocide in Africa affects him deeply because he grew up there. I said sure, all the genocides deserve recognition, but since he’s using the term “Yom HaShoah,” he is cheapening the meaning of the day by being so inclusive. I said he should let the others get their own day, or he should make another day to recognize “all genocide,” but this day has a specific meaning. Once he understood my point, he kept apologizing. He said he spoke with some friends of his who are Jewish when he was planning the event, and one of them said she was glad that other genocides were being included. I responded that there are even Jews who don’t think Israel should exist, and that being Jewish does not necessarily confer expertise. He apologized some more. I told him I could not attend his event as described, and he apologized some more.
All I accomplished was to make a moonbat uncomfortable. Does that have some value? Might I have provoked some thought?

Yes, black lab retriever. I was joking, he can be annoying but knows to quit when I put the ball up on the shelf on the patio. I’m sticking with labs, I love the breed.

If I may, I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to this link, which I’m afraid may have been overlooked among all the other overnight open thread spinoff links.
As you may know, the president of the main committee of “Durban II” conference on racism and human rights is Mrs. Najjat al-Hajjaji, a representative of Muammar Qaddafi. It’s a piece of irony so bitter that only the sickening, morally bankrupt U.N. would have even attempted it.
In this video clip, U.N. Watch surprises the Libyan committee chair by bringing before her a victim of Qadaffi’s torture.
Share it with a friend. I’m not affiliated with U.N. Watch, but I do donate to them, and I think they do good work.
Thanks for the link. Very informative, a bit fun to watch (squirm, Madam chair, squirm), and an exercise in seeing how much French I actually remember from high school.

I listened to a grown man, on a radio talk show this weekend, repeat over and over that we need to change their hearts. He was serious and in no way say anything troublesome with that idea.
He didn’t find 1400 years of hatred of the West as a problem, he didn’t find that their holy book required that the non-muslim be concerted, one way or another, he found no problems with the way they threat their own selves and their woman.
He was 100 percent convinced that Obama has the answer, to talk to them, and change their heart.

Yup no reason we can’t meet on common ground with people like this?
That is really, really repulsive. Is it any wonder none of the children wanted to come forward and speak against their father, who is probably still molesting them?

The dad rapes a little girl age 7, The mother of the baby justifiably kills the dad (what other recourse does she have?). The mother can easily be pardoned, all that’s needed is one of the children need speak up on behalf of the mother. None speak up. The mother is executed.
What kind of world is this?

Jake Tapper grills Gibbs on minuscule budget cuts.
Today’s Qs for O’s WH - 4/20/2009April 20, 2009 3:01 PM
I interjected in an exchange between White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and another reporter today, so I’ve included their exchange (with my interruption) as well as my own.
JENNIFER LOVEN, AP: The $100 million target figure that the president talked about today with the Cabinet, can you explain why so small? I know he talked about — you know, you add up 100 million and 100 million, and eventually, you get somewhere, but it would take an awfully long time to add up hundred million (inaudible) in the deficit. Why not target a bigger number?
GIBBS: (Smiling) Well, I think only in Washington, D.C. is a hundred million dollars…
LOVEN: The deficit’s very large. It’s not a joke.
GIBBS: No, I’m…
LOVEN: The deficit’s giant. $100 million really is only a step.
GIBBS: But no joke.
LOVEN: You sound like you’re joking about it, but it’s not funny.
GIBBS: I’m not making jokes about it. I’m being completely sincere that only in Washington, D.C. is $100 million not a lot of money. It is where I’m from. It is where I grew up. And I think it is for hundreds of millions of Americans.
LOVEN: The point is it’s not a very big portion of the deficit.
TAPPER: You were talking about an appropriations bill a few weeks ago about $8 billion being minuscule — $8 billion in earmarks. We were talking about that and you said that that…
GIBBS: Well, in terms of — in…(CROSSTALK)
TAPPER: …$100 million is a lot but $8 billion is small?
GIBBS: Well, what I’m saying is I think it all adds up just as the president said, just as Jennifer was good enough to do in her question. If you think we’re going to get rid of $1.3 trillion deficit by eliminating one thing, I’d be — and the administration would be innumerably happy for you to let us know what that is.
It’s long so I won’t post the rest of the exchange…..

Since it is an open thread, and in the hopes that I am not posting this right on top of someone else posting it, here is the main reason to stop freaking out about the DHS report:
The wingnut freakout over the DHS report on domestic terrorism continues unabated, with news that they are suing the Department of Homeland Security in order to protect the right of neo-Nazis to engage in domestic terrorism. Those are some fairly odd priorities, but apparently their obsession to remain “united” during their time in the political wilderness has led them to grasp each other tightly — conservatives, militiamen, neo-Nazis. Kind of sweet, I suppose, as long as you’re really into hate and destruction.
It gives the loons on the left ammunition against normal conservatives.

Casapueblo in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Built by one of the survivors of the plane crash featured in the book/movie Alive!.
From The Onion:
ORURO, BOLIVIA, 20 November 1978 - Disco superstar Gloria Gaynor was discovered alive by rescue workers Sunday, the sole survivor of a Bolivian rugby-team plane crash three months ago.
Gaynor, who on 19 August was travelling to Chile with the rugby team to sing the Bolivian national anthem at a game, was stranded in a remote section of the Andes for nearly 100 days after the plane crashed. She said she survived by eating the athletes.
“At first I was afraid, I was petrified,” said Gaynor, who lost more than 40 pounds during the ordeal. “I thought that I could never live stranded on that mountainside. I stayed up so many nights, just feeling sorry for myself. But, once I overcame my aversion to eating other human beings, I grew strong and I learned how to get along.”
Gaynor said she resisted cannibalism for the first two weeks on the mountain. But, when she ran out of possible food sources and realized it was her only chance for survival, she relented.
“I said I will survive,” Gaynor said. “I will survive.”

Interesting how they stack their polls in favor of 0bama and then treat the poll results as news.
Poll: Majority of Americans Approve of How 0bama is Handling Economy
I’d like to know a few details about the polls. Are they filtering for those who voted last November? I doubt it. What about age?
Bottom line is I heard a pundit yesterday cite approval ratings in the high 60’s. I cannot believe that of the 48% who voted against Obama, any significant number have now jumped aboard the popularity wagon. And without them, how do you get into the 60’s unless you’re also polling 15 year olds……..
I’m skeptical.

re: #502 Iron Fist
It’s kind of scary, really, the kind of cognative dissonance that has to go on for these people to continue to believe the way they do. They have to ignore pretty much everything that has gone on with the Mohammedans for the last fourteen centuries. They have to ignore much of what the Mohammedans say today. For every Mohammedan we have that tells us Islam (Submission) is a way of peace, there are ten that scream for the beheading of infidels. Yes, there is some taqiyya coming from the Mohammedans, but a lot more of it coming from non-Mohammedan appologists who parrot comforting stories about a mythical “great” religion that in fact bears little resembalence to the tranqual faith that we are told Islam must be.
Even the name, Islam, is mistranslated. Islam means submission, not peace. It is about power, not enlightenment. It is about racking up spiritual pussy for atrocities committed in this life. The way to great groupsex in Paradise is to die while murdering Jewish children.
If there is a God in creation (and I believe that there is), Islam is an abomination unto Him. Either way, it is an objectively evil religion of mass murder, rapine, and blood. They show us this every day, in so many ways. To not see it is willful ignorance.
You ought to read the introduction to the first English translation of the koran (ca. 1600s). Nothing PC about it.

Okay. One rant more, then I’m going back outside.
The daughter called me today. Wonders if maybe she ought to buy a house, since the market is downish and she…well…she thinks that she maybe ought to buy a house.
I told her no. Reminded her that she hates to clean, hates to do yard-work, doesn’t know diddly about maintenance, has to call someone to fix her wiring when the problem was a burned out bulb, etc.
Besides, I said, can you really afford a house? That’s when she told me what she makes per year. Jaysus Freakin Kerist in the foothills wearing sneakers! She makes that much more than her mother and I and I still have to co-sign when she buys a flipping car?! Good Gravy! Why in the world doesn’t that chile have a sterling credit rating?
My pride in her accomplishments is continually being counterbalanced by my amazement at what she does.

You know 32% of American households are renters and I wish that the government would care about renters as much as they do homeowners. Renters get no tax breaks at all. Not everyone was meant to or should own a house. Some of us are klutzes when it comes to repairs. I wish for the sake of the 1/3rd households that do not own that rents would be far more affordable. The rule of thumb used to be one week’s salary should equal one month’s rent but this is not the case in most big cities.
I saw President Bush say once “Every American ought to own a home” - that was the wrong message as it turned out. Too many people bought homes they could not afford.

Did you hear how Obama warned Mr. Ahmedinejihad to use a better discourse when talking about Israel or else or else or else he’ll send Ahmedinejihad to the principal’s office.

re: #9 brookly red
actually yes, the banks aren’t liking his repayment plan…
They aren’t, but that doesn’t explain the market’s plunge today.
Part of the problem seems to be the banks themselves. BoA announced earnings that beat estimates by eleven times today. This generated a huge “WTF” moment for a lot of investors, who are suspicious that something’s not right in the accounting department. Estimates are usually within a few percentage points of reality; to be off by an order of magnitude suggests a serious lack of transparency somewhere.
Personally, I think a lot of the problem is simply that estimates are way out of whack with reality on the negative side. We seem to be seeing large differences between earnings and estimates in all sectors; it’s unlikely that everyone is cooking the books, even if a few are.
Of course, we’re also poised at the end of a huge 6 week run up in share prices of around 30%. This may be historic; it’s certainly making the contrarians who did some bottom fishing in February look like geniuses.
