Enough public pressure, and they were allowed to repay it.

Boehner came out today and said that he's told his caucus to act respectful.
Let's hope Obama respects Americans' intelligence and doesn't try to blame continuing problems on the last administration (like with all the debt he's run up with help of Congressional Democrats (who have been in power since 2006)).
And it's damn shame he has to tell a bunch of (nominal) adults to behave and not act like spoiled brats, as if they're on a field trip.

Credits are not the same as tax cuts. He's conflating two separate and distinct concepts. Tax cut would affect the tax rate; credits only apply to those who qualify and take them.

So wait - instead of cutting spending this year because the fiscal situation is so dire - he's going to cut spending starting in 2011 (so he can get his pet projects passed this year ahead of that). That's so his fellow Democrats can bring home the bacon on his projects.
That's all this is - push off the tough decisions until after election day.
Typical - and both parties do it, but that's business as usual - not doing things differently.
The SS, Medicare and Medicaid were started decades ago and were unsustainable then, and are now and will be unless substantive changes are made. Fix it. Good.

Anything that makes you subject to blackmail is a huge achilles heel in any work that requires security clearances. As a civilian who is put off somewhat by the flamboyant element of the gay community, I would rather have openly gay people serving in uniform than closeted homosexuals being found and compromised by our enemies.

Going to be an interesting mid-term election, followed by a wholesale change of the guard in 2012 at this rate. Better stock up on your popcorn, it is going an interesting couple of years to watch. I have no problem with it other than the fact that neither side gives a shit about making the country better, just winning another election.
I have to bite my tongue while saying this, but maybe the tea party people really aren't so bad. You've just illustrated my point. I could not have asked for a better example of what i was referring to. You guys are all amped up, and it's beginning to feel very childish, very high school. What part of "I'd stop posting" is unclear to you? I would simply...stop...posting...comments. What I said is what i meant, precisely. No flounce, no leaving, no anything. I would just simply not wish to contribute thoughts to the comment field.
I started reading this blog because I consider Charles an interesting thinker, and someone with an objective point of view who is on a voyage of discovery about the strange directions our country is taking. I love the blog. I'm beginning to notice the comments however, straying further and further afield of the actual blog posts. It's not a problem by itself, we can all disagree. But when the TONE becaomes more and more like Redstate, and the comments become an avalanche of "Pelosi is a vile bitch" and slams on the first lady...well, let's just say it disinclines me to participate.

FACT: Without the US Government investing tax dollars into creating a revolutionary computer network designed to withstand a nuclear exchange we would not have the internet; or at the very least, we'd be using something similar made by Europe or maybe Russia.
The notion that the government is unable to contribute to advancing humanity is utter bullshit. When a democrat proposes funding for research and development and the GOP complains it is nothing short of hypocrisy. The GOP has never bemoaned a tax dollar that went toward a bomb, but when it comes to the science behind that bomb, they claim it's pork!

You find sentiments upthread about Obama's speech appalling? You did label Sarah Palin a piece of filth, did you not? I don't think anyone has approached that level of vehement disrespect.
Sarah Palin deserves no respect.

Through the magic of the internet it will still be here when he gets back. Besides, I didn't post it for him. I posted it for everyone to read. He's just a muse. A crypt-keeper impersonating muse.

That is hate speech.

re: #1119 idioma
The notion that the government is unable to contribute to advancing humanity is utter bullshit. When a democrat proposes funding for research and development and the GOP complains it is nothing short of hypocrisy. The GOP has never bemoaned a tax dollar that went toward a bomb, but when it comes to the science behind that bomb, they claim it's pork!
I agree with this. Not so much the slogan - that's more for the CBN. Sometimes it could be for the GOP, but not always, and usually not here.

That is hate speech.
Care to elaborate? My claim stands. The GOP has no trouble spending for defense, while at the same time stoking the flames of anti-science. They continue to pander to a disturbing Christian element that shares talking points with the taliban, and find zero contradiction in sharing a pro-military stance with a christian base. Their homophobia is well documented and far reaching, so tell me, what part is hate speech exactly?
1127 | Bagua Wed, Jan 27, 2010 9:56:34pm |
Using the word "homos" is hate speech in my book, you can choose a less offensive word to illustrate your ridicule of the Republican party.

Do you use and approve of that label? I thought it was hate speech to refer to gays as homos, I stand corrected if it is OK.

How does the Religious Right share anything with the Taliban? Even a dance that Bob Jones Jr. would find acceptable sent Sayyid Quattib (the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood) into a fit of rage. Our RR couldn't be like the Talibs if they tried.

I'm really not sensitive, anything is acceptable to me in the right context.

Maybe not the Taliban itself, but can you say that fundie Islam itself has nothing in common with the RR? Persecution of gays, piss-poor record with women's rights, support for torture and theocracy come to mind.

Not to mention crediting God with 9/11, as punishment for America's decadence (Falwell, Robertson anyone?). Yep, no similarities with the taliban at all/

That's why I left for the duration of the speech, the bitchiness because so astounding it even turned my stomach, and I love a good skirmish. People I respected suddenly getting very venomous. Yech.
it gave me the icky brown feeling, and started to resemble the "normal" right wing blogs. If that vibe was typical at LGF, I'd probably stop posting. Discussions are fun, hate, not so much fun. Cheap shots at the first lady and all.
If you're still reading... I logged out, too, so I could actually enjoy the speech without the snarky comments.
I come and go here. When it got too hot (too much liberal hating), I'd leave for awhile. Most of the time, I overlooked it. The reason I stayed wasn't for the posters, mainly conservative, but for Charles. Because I liked the topics (primarily Israel at the time) and I like/d talking with people who don't think like me. Helps to better define my own thoughts.
I've noticed now there are less and less personal insults which is a good thing.

Really?? Try looking at the archives from the end of 2008. Calling Palin a piece of filth is a compliment in comparison.
And in case you didn't notice, she's not the President. Just a washed up governor who quit her job to write a book. Filth is rather fitting.

I take no issue with what you upding.
I took issue issue with you wondering why anyone was upset by the "rethug" comment.
I am perfectly within reason to be upset with the "rethug".
And you can throw the "ya" at me all you want like you did earlier, I will still think I'm within reason to be upset with the "rethug".
Reine, writing the same thing 3x doesn't make me hear you any more clearly. But you want the last word, you got it.
And you can throw the "ya" at me all you want like you did earlier,....
I was trying to be civil to you, but if that also bothers you, I'll stop it.

I find incongruity here. You point me to the archives to show how severely Palin was ridiculed, apparently as a "they did it too" premise. Yet you say you want to avoid snarky comments and that you avoided the liberal hating you found in the past at LGF. I'm not going to attempt any mind changing with people who pile on Palin. If it's a national pastime, so be it.

Rubbish. You were very happy to pull up a comment by marjoriemoon the other day, in defense of someone calling homosexuals 'human filth', and claim others who objected to that comment were guilty of incongruity or inconsistency.
Busted, again.

Cough up a hairball, ice. Quit projecting your gotcha mentality onto me.
I love the term rubbish though, truly. It's from the stuff and nonsense family. I need to use it more often. I nearly updinged that, but your exultant crowing quashed it.

You were completely busted there, and your whining about 'exultant crowing' (by which you mean, linking the comment of your own words exposing you as a hypocrite), and your further personal remarks directed at me, only help prove my point, to wit:
You don't know what you're talking about; you apply double standards; and you cry when it's pointed out and proven.

Silver, then may I recommend "folderol," "balderdash," and "malarkey?" All fine words, now largely rendered obsolete by the wholesale rush by people to embrace "bullshit" and its variants.

Actually, I was pointing you to the archives to show you how Obama was ridiculed, not Palin. You were not allowed to ridicule Palin here prior to the beginning of this year. I had at least one comment deleted for merely saying I didn't like her.
In fact, Labor Day weekend, Palin was announced. You know what another little piece of filth called me? (now banned thank God). She called me a House Jew shilling for Obama. That comment stayed and mine was deleted. Not one person here defended me. So quite frankly, any whining from conservatives here falls on deaf ears.
