Hey, how'd that one poser get in there? He disagrees with me on my pet hobbyhorse issue!

As might be expected, some of the comments at the link are claiming a few of the listed are Centrists In Name Only.

7 Kruk  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 9:31:35am

Well done, Charles. One of the things I love about this site is that we have people from both left and right feeling welcome.

Gee... that freedom of speech thing is a bitch sometimes.

So, whats the call on how long it will take for a stalker to hit the comments section?

12 pharmmajor  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 9:33:31am

Congratulations on making the list, Charles.

The only point of disagreement I can raise is that they included Jon Stewart. Sorry, but from my perspective, he is not centrist; he's a big-government cheerleader bordering on the far left. Though I am pleased that they included Christopher Buckley. That guy is just awesomesauce.

Now that I posted the link, the Estimated Stalker Arrival is in about 15 minutes.

Michael Smerconish, eh. The addition of his show to WGST here in Atlanta completed its transformation into just another Clear Channel robo-station. He replaced the last weekday local interest program left in their lineup. Not Smerconish's fault of course, but still...

It is snowing hard enough and the temp has dropped enough that the snow is sticking! This is crazy. Also the peaches and apricots are starting to bloom!

24 bratwurst  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 9:51:28am

Always good to see Charles getting much deserved recognition!

Amazing state of affairs though when the man who helped coin the phrase "axis of evil" is now considered a centrist.

We're really cold here too. There's a chance of flurries. Very frustrating. I wanna be out in the garden!

we might have that problem here in NM...up the river towards Taos there is a lot of orchards, and it's damned cold up there yet

The Cascade passes are expecting 8 to 12 inches of snow.

30 subsailor68  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 9:54:46am

Congratulations Charles! It's a pretty good list there.

Guys, I never go OT this early, but I think you'll forgive me (as I have to go take care of some business so must leave shortly).

This is absolutely amazing. I can't say anything about it without spoiling it, but whoever wrote this is seriously close to creative genius. (It's only a couple of minutes long.)

Well, there probably are some good pundits on the left and right, but they're in a very small minority, adrift amidst the seas of insanity.

There were matching lists of left and right pundits a few weeks ago, I believe. And as I recall, David Brooks was listed on the "right" list there, with the caveat that while he wasn't really*very* right, he was influentially right because Barack Obama might actually read him, sometimes. Now he's a centrist.

This list seems to contain a lot of people who started on the right and have swung center, and (as far as I noticed) only one who'd come in from the left. I wonder if this mirrors or contradicts where all the new "independent" voters are coming from -- polling on that differs totally depending on who is doing the polling.

44 Cato the Elder  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 10:26:47am

You know you're a centrist when your blog attracts both progs and trogs.

It might not be that they necessarily swung center but that the center swung more right so now they seem to be more in the center.

Wasn't Harold Ford Jr. on an episode of Seinfeld once?

47 Slap  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 10:50:36am

Hearty congratulations, Charles. In my book, anybody who steps off the partisan train in favor of simple sanity deserves much praise and respect. With luck, the center will hold.

Peggy Noonan is centrist?

49 garhighway  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 11:07:55am

re: #48 Olsonist

Peggy Noonan is centrist?

Sometimes. I suspect she is more centrist than she normally lets on, because it is in her financial self-interest to be firmly GOP.

Remember her "open mike moment" last fall when she committed the sin of saying out loud what a stupid choice Palin was? She must know that one or two more of those and the GOP imprimatur is revoked and she loses her market value.

50 Taqyia2Me  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 11:30:35am

Congratulations, Charles. Well and duly earned!

51 Olsonist  Fri, Apr 2, 2010 12:25:19pm

re: #49 garhighway

I have a higher bar for being a centrist than just saying Palin is a nutjob, in private. She's definitively GOP, a columnist for the Murdoch-owned WSJ, which has always had a rabidly conservative oped page. If she were the least bit centrist she'd be openly critical of what modern conservatism has become.

I'd call this list center-right. There are several writers on it who have distanced themselves from the right, Frum, Sullivan, Charles, ... but Noonan, Scarborough, Broder haven't.

I'm surprised Maureen Dowd didn't make the list. But then it's just another bullshit list.
