I'm applying late 1940s standards: If there exists a picture of you in your gutchies, and you're a male over 4, you're gay.

Soccer in America will be popular when they break it up into quarters..Lots of Beer and snack commercials every 10 minutes...Shrink the field by 30% and just go for it...And when you get red carded you get to replace the player with a bigger, faster, meaner player off the bench..And what is this yellow red card? The US is doing decently in soccer these days, but I can't help thinking it should be better. For two generations now, little suburban boys by the millions have been dutifully carted to practice by vast hordes of Volvo and minivan driving soccer moms. A lot of these yuppie larvae have grown up, and then some, but the endless hours of mom-ordained soccer practice doesn't seem to have had the effect it should have.
Could it be that the association with mom and Volvo/minivan operation has caused an anti-soccer backlash among these young men?

On Masturbation: Life is a job. You get $14.50 a day, but after you die, you have to pay for your sins. Stealing a hub cap is around $100. Masturbation is 35 cents (it doesn't seem like much, but it adds up). If there's money left when you subtract what you owe from what you've earned, you can go to heaven. If not, you have to go back to work. (Sort of like reincarnation -- many nuns are Mafia guys working it off.)

I'm seeing a pattern here;
Judge favored by BP has financial ties to oil industry
The judge that BP wants to hear an estimated 200 lawsuits over the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster gets tens of thousands of dollars a year in oil royalties and is paid travel expenses to industry conferences, financial disclosure forms show.
Lawyers who practice before U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes say he's tough but fair, and a CNN review of his cases found he ruled in favor of oil companies only slightly more often than he ruled against them. But his connections to the industry have raised eyebrows at a time when BP is under fire for the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

Childhood living it's easy to do
The things that you wanted well I bought them for you
Graceless lady, you know who I am
You know I can't let you just slide through my hands
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you've decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
I know I dreamt you a sin and a lie

50,000 ultra-Orthodox rally in Israel over school desegregation
"There are 30,000 in Jerusalem and 20,000 in Bnei Brak," near Tel Aviv, spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP. "Streets in the immediate vicinity of the demonstrations are closed to traffic."
Thousands of police were on high alert as protestors rallied against a supreme court ruling to jail a group of parents of European origin, or Ashkenazis, who are refusing to send their daughters to a school with Jewish girls of Middle Eastern descent, or Sephardis.
Although the ruling effectively pitted the ultra-Orthodox Ashkenazis against the Sephardis, both communities have come together for a mass protest against what they see as the intolerable intervention of the secular state in their religious affairs.

re: #159 albusteve
you have to admit the HCR bill is not very popular...then maybe you don't
Apparently you don't:
The Associated Press brings a bit of good news for Democrats, especially those standing for office in November: According to a new poll, the Obama healthcare law has reached its highest level of popularity. The poll, from AP-GfK, has 45 percent of adults approving of the bill and 42 percent disapproving. That's a statistical tie since the margin of error is plus or minus 4.3 percentage points, but the important data here is the trend line.
Last month the law only got 39 percent approval, and 46 percent disapproval. According to the AP:
The poll found support increased since May among men (from 36 percent to 46 percent), people in their prime working years (from 35 percent to 49 percent among 30-49 year-olds) and Republicans (from 8 percent to 17 percent.) The uptick among Republicans comes even as party leaders are calling for the law's repeal.
A doubling of support among Republicans. Well that's something.
Like I said, the trend is the important thing here. And that trend roughly reflects pollster.com's average of polls on the plan. While pollster.com still has the plan being more unpopular than popular, it shows the gap closing steadily.
Opposition to the bill was never monolithic, it was a kludged together compromise inducing a whole menagerie of antipathies. Some were nominally against the bill because they didn't think it went far enough and that it will help the insurance industry too much.
