I think it’s burnt itself out.
It should be noted that the whole thing involved approximately 30 youts. They took a few shots at the police (who obviously had instructions not to intervene, much), torched the rides and went home to their parents’ for breakfast and some sleep.
Same old, same old.
The people who really get fucked by this are their neighbors, the car owners.

It depends on the context. The police here have absolutely no hesitation to respond with deadly force when fired upon. But they’ve had enough experience with these kinds of riots to know when to stand on the sidelines/take cover and when to start shooting back.

It’s a relatively new phenomenon here. Didn’t used to be the province of punk Yutes. But a whole new black market for arms from Eastern Europe has opened up and you can buy just about anything at very affordable prices. Mexican drug cartels’ newest weapon: Cold War-era grenades made in U.S.
MEXICO CITY — Grenades made in the United States and sent to Central America during the Cold War have resurfaced as terrifying new weapons in almost weekly attacks by Mexican drug cartels.
Sent a generation ago to battle communist revolutionaries in the jungles of Central America, U.S. grenades are being diverted from dusty old armories and sold to criminal mafias, who are using them to destabilize the Mexican government and terrorize civilians, according to U.S. and Mexican law enforcement officials.
The redeployment of U.S.-made grenades by Mexican drug lords underscores the increasingly intertwined nature of the conflict, as President Felipe Calderón sends his soldiers out to confront gangs armed with a deadly combination of brand-new military-style assault rifles purchased in the United States and munitions left over from the Cold War.

Mexican drug cartels’ newest weapon: Cold War-era grenades made in U.S.
Interesting article, but the headline is stupid. This is buried in the first page:
According to the Mexican attorney general’s office, there have been 101 grenade attacks against government buildings in the past 3 1/2 years, information now made public for the first time.To fight back, U.S. experts in grenades and other explosives are now working side by side with Mexican counterparts. On Thursday, assailants detonated a car bomb in downtown Ciudad Juarez, killing two federal police officers and an emergency medical technician and wounding seven.
The majority of grenades have been traced back to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, according to investigations
That bolded sentence doesn’t even fit there. And what was used there is the newest weapon: a car bomb made with C4.

Various people take varoius shots at each other all the time on here, its part of the culture. Complaining about it when one group or the other does something is pointless. The only problem is empty attack vs. pointed attack.
We’re not a nunnery here.
I’d like to think we’re not total lunatics either. There’s a point beyond which it becomes destructive to the forum as a whole.

We’re on year 39 of the Drug War™.
Good grief, has it been that long? I’m one of the people who advocates decriminalization of use. We have crowded our prisons with those who are users, costing the public a huge amount of money. When you figure in the costs of apprehension, prosecution, and incarceration, it is staggering. I know what I say. I worked in one of the largest jails on the west coast for over ten years. One of the problems is that when you now say anything about either releasing users or decriminalization, law enforcement and the judicial system goes nuts. It means thousands upon thousands of jobs to them. We would be better off going after the sales rather than the user end of things. Put some of that saved money into treatment for those who are willing to try to get off drugs. Jail doesn’t do a thing except make users more savvy.

Started officially in the USA in 1971. That when the DEA helped introduce many young Americans to the variety of drugs — ironically. Hasn’t made much of a dent. The drug trade in Mexico has it’s own GDP numbering in the 10s of billions per year.

Great-grandson of telephone inventor Bell gets life for spying for Cuba
The 73-year-old great-grandson of Alexander Graham Bell, who is credited with the invention of the first practical telephone, Kendall Myers, has been sentenced to life in prison for spying for Cuba.
According to Scotman.com, US District Judge Reggie Walton said that Myers and his wife Gwendolyn betrayed the United States for three decades and should receive a heavy punishment for having done so.
In a 10-minute explanation to the judge of his conduct, the retired intelligence analyst admitted to stealing secrets but stressed that he had no intention to harm the country.

The courthouse across the street from the law office in which I work has a little mexican guy who has set up shop with a taco cart on the front steps every day at lunch time.

Have you ever spent time in San Bernardino?
People there can tell you the types of guns being shot at night just from the sounds of the gunfire. Amazing place by day as well. There’s a persistent legend (it may be true) that San Bernardino was the Stones’ first venue in the U.S. There’s a kind of poetic justice there…

A few years ago, there way a guy who had an honest-to-God Stanley Steamer that he’d take out late at night and drive up and down a boulevard near here. He’d stop to tighten this or that bolt and I was able to check it out: an amazing wheezing beast and a vision from another age. The guy and the Steamer eventually disappeared and haven’t been seen since.

Years ago my brother-in-law took me to the best hot dog stand in Washington DC. It was next to 2 other stands. There were 2 or 3 people in line on the other ones and about 20 people in line on the other one. That was some awesome hot dogs.

Trouble in France again…
France fears widespread rioting as youths rampage after police shoot robber
France was on riot alert yesterday after hundreds of Muslim youths went on the rampage in Grenoble.
Shots were fired at police and dozens of shops and cars were set on fire in the Alpine town.
Trams and buses were also held up by gangs brandishing baseball bats and bars, and a service station was looted.
The violence followed the fatal shooting of Karim Boudouda, a 27-year-old man involved in an attempted robbery at the Uriage-les-Bains casino, near Grenoble.
Locals accused armed officers of overreacting by gunning down Boudouda, allegedly as he tried to give himself up.
A Grenoble police spokesman said: ‘There has been a very fierce reaction. As mourners gathered in a park to hear Muslim prayers for the dead man late on Friday night, trouble broke out. By Saturday morning tear gas was being used on the youths.
‘At about 2.30am a handgun was used to fire shots at the police. A youth was arrested, which seemed to make matters worse. The trouble went on until morning.’
Many fear the trouble will spread to other towns, as it did in 2005 when the death of two youths in Paris led to rioting and a state of emergency being declared across France.

This is upsetting but not too surprising.Look around you: REPRESSION AND CURTAILING OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS HAPPENING MORE & MORE BY THE DAY. And it is only going to get WORSE, as more people SPEAK OUT against the repressions happening in our once-free society. This thin-skinned government, with its own self-serving agenda, seems adamant about quashing criticism. God help us all, because when they cut off our ability to speak Truth or to communicate with one another, we become extremely vulnerable to other State abuses.
OMG!
