MSNBC Suspends Joe Scarborough

Media • Views: 18,360

In a pretty obvious attempt to appear even-handed after suspending Keith Olbermann for the same offense, MSNBC president Phil Griffin has now suspended Joe Scarborough for campaign donations.

MSNBC said Friday that it is suspending “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough for two days after he acknowledged giving eight previously unknown $500 contributions to friends and family members running for state and local offices during his tenure at the network, a violation of parent NBC’s ban on political contributions by employees without specific permission from the network president.

“I recognize that I have a responsibility to honor the guidelines and conditions of my employment, and I regret that I failed to do so in this matter,” Scarborough said in a statement. “I apologize to MSNBC and to anyone who has been negatively affected by my actions,” he said, adding that after he was made aware of some of the contributions, he called MSNBC president Phil Griffin “and agreed with Phil’s immediate demand of a two-day suspension without pay.”

And the wingnuts will make this sound like the biggest political drama since Watergate starting … NOW.

I think “obvious attempt to appear even-handed” is pretty apt.

Wait a second.

adding that after he was made aware of some of the contributions

Why did he have to be made aware of them? I mean, he made them.

Scarborough a leftie or a rightie?

I don’t watch this stuff.

Really. I don’t know.

Middle-right.

He’s an ex-GOP congressman. In some ways he’s moderate, but in others he’s very socially conservative.

Hence the “even handed”. Okay.

Thanks guys.

Joe is a SoCon?
I didn’t know that.

So, I see Glenn Beck has a new book out - a “Self-Help” book on handling grief and addiction issues.

[Link: www.mediaite.com…]

No word whether this book has a chapter regarding dealing with paranoid conspiracy delusions related to billionaire Jewish bankers.

Yes, in a ‘let’s just ignore gay rights and abortion at the federal level way’. He supported DOMA hugely. He supported a lot of pro-life legislation.

Scarborough is sane, however, not a raving nutjob, and so he’s ‘moderate’ in that regard.

He’s very reasonable on environmental and civil rights issues that don’t involve gay people or abortions.

At the time of Olbermann’s suspension Griffin said he had a conversation with Scarborough about political giving. “In my conversation with Joe two weeks ago, he did not recall these contributions,” Griffin said.

That seems odd. Just slipped his mind.

The only one who should be suspended, probably fired, from MSNBC ins Pat Buchanan.

Well, sorry to see that he’s got an issue with gay rights. Thanks for the info.
Looks like room for improvement.

An expected move after the Olbermann debacle.

I got a better idea. Suspend or fire Phil Griffin. He seems to be incompetant or something similar.

scarborough, along with mccain, was ahead of the rest of the republican party in pointing out that the pre-surge iraq policy was in deep failure mode. for this he was excommunicated from the idiotocracy. here is a freep comment about the suspension today:

See! They DO enforce it on both sides!

Both the far-far-extreme-far left and the not-so-far left are subject to the same rules!

another fun detail is provided by the a random video posting in the same thread headlined Mitt Romney bragging and lying about his GREAT CommieCare program, with the comment Romney is an unrepentant abortionist/statist lying political whore! Just to be absolutely clear, there will never ever be a RINO Romney campaign on FR!! If he somehow becomes the nominee, FR will be running a full-time campaign to DEFEAT him!! If you wish to support him then I suggest you sign off FR and onto Wankers for Mitt!!

as a progressive, i am very satisfied with the amazing progress the tea party has made so far in its historic mission to divide and marginalize the conservative movement

He was a huuuuggge Bush supporter, up until Katrina knocked the scales from his eyes.

He’s from Pensacola FL, his wife was doing relief work for some of the hurricane refugees while he was covering the storm’s aftermath, and every time the White House Press Office held a briefing about what they were doing, he’d shriek “no they’re not! They’re not, it’s a lie! They’re lying! I’m standing right here, and they’re not, and I’ve been driving around, and they’re nowhere, not doing any of what they say they’re doing, any of it at all. What the hell else are they lying about? At this point I’m ready to believe the Iraq war isn’t going anywhere near as well as they say, ‘cause they’re just big fat liars.”

It was a pretty astonishing turnaround.

And an entirely pointless one.

Watching both Scarborough and Shepard Smith over on Fox during Katrina was a revelation. Both men absolutely flipped their shit over what they were seeing on the ground and refused to play along with the party lines. It was extraordinary.
