The founder of the WikiLeaks website, Julian Assange, has said he expects to earn more than £1m from book deals.
Assange, who achieved global notoriety after his whistleblower website began releasing more than a quarter of a million diplomatic cables, said he would use the money for legal costs.
---
Legal costs for WikiLeaks and his own defence were approaching £500,000, he said. The decisions by Visa, MasterCard and PayPal to stop processing donations have cost the organisation £425,000, enough to fund WikiLeaks' publishing operations for six months. At its peak the organisation was receiving £85,000 a day, he said.

Just sayin' I have a tool on my desktop right now that gives me control of close to 26,000 individual IP's (last time I checked) to attack any site I might wish to. It is one that Anonymous published and that many thousands signed up for in support of the Wikileaks DOS attacks.

re: #193 Charles
In return for my acting like a friend, and encouraging him to make his arguments at LGF, Barrett Brown threatened to reveal private emails I sent him, and then proceeded to do it. At a site dedicated to stalking and harassing me.
I don't know what the definition of "creep" is these days, but this seems pretty damned close.
If I may also point out:
He also went on a rant about how much HE helped YOU since he had so much going for him and was able to lend a hand; implication was that he was badly used by you. Very odd, now, isn't it, that the only place right now he seems welcome to post anything is at the site you're talking about, while you're still doing your regular thing. I'm thinking it was you being badly used by him.
ptui.
Not a BB fan, here, at all.

They are an entirely inconsistent, intellectually dishonest crowd.
They claim to be for the rule of law, yet have no problem making common cause with criminal elements, or even bragging about prior gang affiliation.
They claim to be staunch and upright defenders of faith, yet go on and on with genocidal fantasies of members of certain religions.
They claim to be defenders of children and haters of child abusers, yet breathlessly defend The Church with all it's pedo scandals, a tell good and decent people who are disgusted with such practices that they aren't real Catholics.
I think their latest member will fit right in.

From what I could gather, he got a lot of shit when he made anti-American comments, or said he doesn't like the U.S. That's hard for a lot of us to take, both here and the stalker site. His pat answer to any kind of question was "if you want to know more about me, write to ---." He wasn't comfortable addressing his views with the opposition in public, particularly if things got nasty. That's a problem for a blogger.

Survival isn't about guns and gold. It's about reestablishing a sense of community after a disaster. Those who had family along with them, not the "strong", were most likely to survive the Donner party.
If you think bad times are coming, or might be coming, prepare to serve your local community. Learn the use of hand tools. Learn some basic paramedic stuff. If possible, choose a career where that kind of knowledge is central: medicine, construction, engine maintenance and repair, handyman, farmer?
Keep your own health in good order, to the extent you are in control of that.
Get to know the lay of the land around you, also in the sense of who's who in the community and who can be trusted.
It wouldn't hurt, if you're young, to enlist in the armed forces and seek training in specialties that run in this vein.
Buy and secure some key items. The spirit of the thing is best summed up in Larry Niven's sci-fi book Lucifer's Hammer.
You'll cut into your standard of living some, but not terribly, and you'll acquire skills and knowledge that can come in handy in the event of local and circumcscribed disasters.
For many, this all is bad advice. If you have a calling, pursue it. Never mind a Plan B. Life is too short to hedge all bets.

All true, and defense and trade are part of that.

That is awesome. I am happy that you are both happy!
You and the Patriots. Can't get any better.
Hugs.. love ya, and I gotta go to bed. Early morning ice to clear from in front of both business tomorrow. Cant have the cars sliding down the hill in front of the garage or customers cracking skulls on the sidewalk. Ruins your day.
Night all!

There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror. I await your answer. You have a full day to decide.

No, you should be figuring out which neighbors
a. Have some emergency supplies
b. Have a fairly healthy sense of team spirit
c. Could take other people in a fight
Of course, it's far more likely you should be figuring out where you would shelter in case of an emergency and building a 72 hour kit. (After three days, in a normal emergency, emergency supplies arrive.)

re: #243 SpaceJesus
my favorite thing is how rodan once said he was in the latin kings, yet at the same time he rants against people who have "third world liberation ideology"
The Latin Kings teach Latino pride and all members are encouraged to live in accordance with the principles of KINGISM (a moral driven awareness of social oppression and the desire to uplift their people to their rightful place: "amongst the thrones of Kings and Queens"). The Latin Kings operate under strict codes and guidelines that are conveyed in a lengthy constitution [12]. They also follow the teachings of the ALKQN Manifesto [12]. In this manifesto you can find traces of Marxism, Christianity, Confucianism and other revolutionary/historical world-views, which when combined make up the ideology and morality of "KINGISM". These teachings are centered around the upliftment of the poor (the "Oppressed Third World People" [13]) and the struggle against the oppressive social, political and economic existing order of things.

Nothing that a good natural disaster won't cure.
I remember there was a news item after Hurricane Andrew hit where a guy filled up his pickup with ice and when he got it back to his neighborhood, the neighbors beat him over the head with shovels and stole his ice. Example of a bad community. I'm happy to say, the vast majority of folks didn't act like that.
Every year in June we start planning for the season so that we don't have to run to the store in a panic should the worse happen. We basically stock for 2 weeks for the family, including pets. It costs some money. We've had a gasoline generator for 11 years, small propane tanks, a few other staples.

Peppercorns would be money. Maybe paprika. Jalapenos, to be sure. But not TP or gold. There are leaves for the one and food for the other. You can always grab a bit of grass but never tasting pepper again? People will use lead and steel to get the things that matter, not things that make their butts comfy, until far more things are certain.
