What we are seeing is a very successful political effort at undermining Obama.
Not everyone who disagrees with Obama's policies is a racist,
Nixon proposed a plan based on a public insurance plan, in 1974. The public option was taken off the table by Obama because it was deemed "too liberal" to push for.
Obamacare is a hedge between the public option and more conservative plans, such as Romneycare. Actually, it's very similar to Romney's state plan.

One of the best parts of the campaign, for me, was checking out what Cindy was wearing at any given event.
I liked the style of things Cindy McCain wore, but found some of the colors to not be so flattering (thinking avocado and gold, 70s style).

Do you really believe that the public option would have been in the bill if it wasn't for Obama's
conservatism? Let me offer an alternative hypothesis. Obama (and dem leaders in house and senate) knew there were not enough dem votes to get a public option bill to Obama's desk. That was the reason it wasn't in the bill that passed.
