Ann Coulter: Nuclear Meltdowns Are Healthy for Children and Other Living Things

May I have another glass of plutonium, please?
Wingnuts • Views: 38,299

It’s a battle of dimwits, as Ann Coulter goes on the Bill O’Reilly show to argue that anyone exposed to radiation from Japan’s damaged nuclear plants is actually much less likely to get cancer. That’s right; Coulter actually says radiation is good for you. Scientists agree!

Youtube Video

(h/t: SanFranciscoZionist.)

UPDATE at 3/18/11 11:19:45 am

And uh, about that study of radioactive Taiwan apartment buildings Coulter cites to back up her idiocy:

In popular treatments of radiation hormesis, a study of the inhabitants of apartment buildings in Taiwan has received prominent attention. The building materials had been accidentally contaminated with Cobalt-60 but the study found cancer mortality rates 96.4% lower than in the population as a whole.[34] However, this study compared the relatively young irradiated population with the much older general population of Taiwan, which is a major flaw. A subsequent study by Hwang et al. (2006) found a significant exposure-dependent increase in cancer in the irradiated population, particularly leukemia in men and thyroid cancer in women, though this trend is only detected amongst those who were first exposed before the age of 30.

there’s a belief among some that pro-longed exposure to low level radiation over time would make you more resistant to the mutation that is cancer. The idea that your body would adapt. Just like the idea of hard body training, you punch a wall repeatedly, this in turn causes small cracks in your bones which basically callous over with new bone and over time your bones become very hard and are harder to break.

Of course it requires you to actively punch a wall, repeatedly.

56 Shiplord Kirel  Fri, Mar 18, 2011 11:23:44am

If radiation were actually good for you it would be simple to arrange a much higher dose for the public, something like fluoridation of water: Just set off a nuke once in a while in the high atmosphere. The blast won’t reach the ground but a sizable part of the gamma and x-ray flux will. Additionally, the fallout will drift to the ground before its half-life is up and everyone will get a life-giving dose for free.

Just warn everyone to stay indoors during the detonation so they won’t be blinded by the flash. Luddites and scoffers who reject this vital treatment would have the option of wearing masks or moving to special lead-lined shelters for a couple of weeks. It is therefore much more respectful of personal liberty than the communist inspired fluoridation conspiracy. We could even add radioactive isotopes to children’s ice cream to provide an extra boost to growth and mental development.

It might not be a bad idea to have KI pills on hand in case of nuclear attack, a nearby accident, or radiological terrorism but actually taking them at this point would be insane. The stuff has some fairly serious side effects.

More severe side effects which require notification of a physician are: fever, weakness, unusual tiredness, swelling in the neck or throat, mouth sores, skin rash, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, irregular heartbeat, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, or a metallic taste in the mouth

well at least they don’t cause anal leakage, that would be one side-effect too far…

And while Coulter tries to spread the derp, Shep Smith is doing his best to counter-act it. Huffpo link, heads up.

Shep Smith is the only one on Faux who even tries to act like an actual journalist. He also basically insults all his co-hosts and treats the talking heads on the network with near open contempt at their idiocy.

The next Chernobyl will be Chernobyl itself

We aren’t finished with Chernobyl. The scientists admit that the sarcophagus which encases the damaged nuclear reactor is now cracking open and leaking out lethal doses of radiation. In 1988 Soviet scientists announced that the sarcophagus was only designed for a lifetime of 20 to 30 years. Holes and fissures in the structure now cover 100 square metres, some of which are large enough to drive a car through. These cracks and holes are further exacerbated by the intense heat inside the reactor, which is still over 200 degrees Celsius. The sarcophagus’s hastily and poorly built concrete walls, which are steadily sinking, act as a lid on the grave of the shattered reactor.
Only 3% of the original nuclear material was expelled in 1986, leaving behind 216 tons of uranium and plutonium still buried inside the exploded reactor, is a chilling reminder that the explosion was not the end, but rather the beginning. Scientists now agree that this sarcophagus will eventually collapse, and when it does there will be an even greater release of radioactivity than in the initial accident.

They really need to hurry up and implement some of the long-term containment plans that have been kicking around for years. As it says there, this really isn’t the sort of thing you want to wait around until it becomes a major problem again before trying to deal with it.

Sounds like a really smart capitalist venture would be to open some kind of health retreat there, while the land is still cheap. Once people trust Ann and figure out a little radiation poisoning “is just good sense”, Chernobyl is going to look like Disneyland.

Oh, I know. He is what they show off every time saying “Look! We’re fair and balanced! See, we have journalists! Good ones! Now, stay tuned for Bill O’Reilly. “

That doesn’t change that he is one of the few journalists remaining on the airwaves. He is the lone island of sanity and objectivity in the sea of shit that is FoxNews. He just stands out more strikingly because of who else is on the schedule with him.

Hidden-camera activist James O’Keefe turns away APP videographer

James O’Keefe, the conservative activist known for his hidden-camera videos that have made headlines, apparently was not thrilled about the idea of being videotaped himself during a speech he gave Thursday evening.

O’Keefe, who spoke to about 100 members of the Bayshore Tea Party and their supporters at Ye Cottage Inn, declined to be videotaped by an Asbury Park Press photographer who was there to cover the event.

The Tea Party leader explains that O’Keefe is helping the journalists with their freedom.

He plead to a single misdemeanor, entering a federal building under false pretenses. As icing on the cake, he got them to read into the record that it was “fact” that he did not going to bug the phones, but had simply entered the building by lying about his reasons for being there.

From Urban Dictionary…

Fox News 6542 up, 2027 down

National Republican Bullshit Network. Watched by ignorant, gun-toting, flag-waving ultra-nationalistic right-wing Christian fundamentalists who think George Bush is the new fucking Messiah or something; basically, the scum of American society who, if they had their way, would turn America in a fascistic police state in order to feel safe from the “terrorists” (aka: “brown people”).
Fox News is only good for laughing at the bullshit those worthless Republicans like to spew. If you want a real source of news, go the independent route.

I am not defending her but irradiated food last for a very long time since all the microorganisms are killed off and radiation is used to fight cancer. But of course these are controlled situations, not random fall out or contamination. So there is a kernel of truth to her usual perversion of logic and science
