Of all issues, health care might be the one that makes me the most sick (No pun intended). Health care (At least, insurance type systems) cannot just be "privatized" and made awesome. That's not how markets work. Most of these free market yahoos either don't know or don't care about even the most basic concepts of market economics.

First thoughts so far. No one is really standing out so far. Interestingly enough, Cain sounds more like a CEO than a political hack but is avoiding saying anything specific, Paul sounds like Paul, Santorum and Pawlenty are trying to out hawk each other, and Johnson is too busy wanting to kill the government.

Why does cutting the budget ONLY mean taking out Medicare and Medicaid? There is never any other place that can be cut for these guys.
It doesn't just mean those two programs. But those two are the ones whose growth, unless checked, poses the most fiscal danger. Social Security is in better shape than they are and so can wait a few years. But those programs need action, and soon.

From Herman Cain's WIKI...
After defending himself against accusations of racism, Cain provoked controversy when he specifically stated that he would be willing to discriminate on grounds of religion when appointing members to his Cabinet, were he elected President, refusing to consider candidates if they were Muslim, on the grounds that such a candidate may support Sharia law.

This fantasy is moving towards Birth Of A Nation territory.
Well, of course. The people spinning this fantasy can't accept the fact that black man was elected President, or that he has an Ivy League education. And the fact that he campaigned on going into Pakistan if the intel said OBL was there, and he did? That just pisses them off even more.
Instead of giving him any credit or legitimacy, notice how they have the black POTUS being led around like an ignorant, illiterate manservant who doesn't know or understand what's going on around him. That says more about Obama's critics than it does about him.

And gas prices have been artificially low in the U.S. for years and years. And more domestic production would just put the oil on the global market, rather than being horded here, as the average person seems to assume (And which tends to be played to).

Papa John's John Schnatter's political contributions are almost boilerplate Republican, including $2,400 to RAND PAUL, and an AP story on Domino's founder Thomas Monaghan from 2006 reads as follows:
If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control.
Domino's current CEO, David Brandon, has given money to Rick Santorum.

Santorium is such a slimy piece of dog doo. He says the feminists are the cause of women not being acceptable to stay at home? Is he out of his mind? The feminists gave us choices to LEAVE the home, not stay in it. Bastard.
I'm a feminist who has chosen to stay home with the kids because I married a military officer. I chose this marriage and chose to have these children, so I have chosen to be the support person for years now. It's not always easy or fun or intellectually edifying, but with all the moving and other uncertainty, it's the right thing for the family.

Well, my impression is that the SoCons in IA and SC are still going strong and will be quite attracted to the Santorums of this world, though "Huck" is probably their favorite.
But... their base is probably shrinking (on a percentage of the electorate basis.)
Still, I think Obama and the Democratic party needs to be careful. From where I sit right now there are indications of some serious inflation happening, and skyrocketing prices along with lack of jobs is (among many things) what did in Carter.
Well said. The possibility of inflation (and stagflation) needs to be closely watched. Let's see what the Fed does this summer.
They have set the price of money at 0%. But they allow the banks to put money into the Fed at > 1%. They are giving the banks money for parking their money in the Fed. Stupid.

Jackie Cooper hit it dead-on about what tends to happen to child stars in a quote from his memoirs they quoted in the article:
“Of all the kid stars, I think I came through with more of my buttons intact,” he wrote in his best-selling memoir, “Please Don’t Shoot My Dog” (1981, with Dick Kleiner), titled after a director’s malicious trick to get him to cry for the cameras when he was 9.
“Rooney is doing well now,” he went on, “but only after eight marriages and a lengthy professional dry spell. Judy Garland and her tortured soul are gone. All the kid stars had a tough row to hoe because the public smothered them with so much love, they couldn’t grow up, and after that, they never could find enough love to flourish.”
He was right then, and it's true today.

I think the Republican Party is trying to bite off way more than they can chew. This particularly true when we consider the influence and goals of the theocon and the social conservatives intent on controlling people's behavior. I would like to see spending controlled but not with the current crop of Republicans. That only leaves a heavy dose of wishful thinking for the GOP to "change". There is of course an inherent problem with our two party system though. And the answer to that is not the Libertarian Party. But, Americans are very entrenched with traditions and that includes this blind obsession with the two parties.

Years ago I worked at a place where I was one of the very few employees who had not immigrated from somewhere in South America. Long story short, I was flirting with one of my co-workers (c'mon, she was hawt, and flirting with me as well) and after she walked away, another of my co-workers came over and told me "You shouldn't do that, she's married".
"Married?!?!" I replied, "But she's not wearing a wedding ring".

She's a second tier candidate at best, WUB. In 1992 she faced an underfunded, unknown named Mitch Williamson to become Senator from Illinois (the same seat Barack Obama would hold, BTW). A few minutes ago on May 5, 2011, Arab TV announced that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini requested Iran's President Ahmadinejad to step down from his post. The UK Guardian reported today that many of Ahmadinejad's aides were accused of using 'supernatural powers', including invoking jinns (spirits) in an attempt to further the president's agenda against Khameini. This includes Irani Chief of Staff Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei,

My thoughts exactly. Ahmadinejad is Iran's equivalent of Rand Paul...crazy enough that most people don't take him too seriously. The Ayatollahs aren't exactly progressive, so there's a good chance they replace him with a more conservative fucktard. Though I do hope they find a moderate to take the helm and it begins a dialog that starts with returning the other two Americans being held in Iran.

"He sat on the [Afghanistan] surge decision for months," Cain said. "We don't know how many men and women might have been killed while he was waiting. We don't know how much it jeopardized this latest mission to get bin Laden because he waited 16 hours to make the decision. When you've got a mission that is that precise, down to every little detail, a president that procrastinates puts people's lives in jeopardy."
Yes, Herman. He wanted to give thought to every little detail. "Thirty minutes or less" need not apply to making decisions that involve American lives, collateral damage, and international incidents...

Note that to those of us IN the fandom, the freakiness is intentional, and the perception of it being not a good freakiness, is exactly intentional. It's sorta the barrier of entry! if you get it, you get it, if ya don't you don't. I don't like gun shows or gun culture or gun shops. I won't go inside. They creep me out, probably in the way that furries creep you out.
it keeps out people who would make fun of us, and it lets in those who understand. And people who want to come in, well, they have to buy the ticket to take the ride. Much like a metal show. Who's going to subject themselves t blast meats at 100 db unless they enjoy it?

Darthstar makes a pretty fuckin' good pizza, if he does say so himself.
I would taste that! I don't cook *__*
I just have no patience or skill for it, I'd rather spend them time drawing, and then the money to go out

In the course of the centuries they will learn to know each other better, just as we shall. As brooks flow into streams, streams into rivers, and rivers into the sea, so our adepts flow back to us and swell our ranks. Soon we shall be victorious and triumphant! We shall then over this earth. It shall await our coming as Autumn awaits Winter.

As noted upstream, American "conservatives" seem to have a hankering for bad pizza.
well, the "heartland" is full of terrible mass market cardboard pizza.
Great BBQ! Bad pizza. Pizza is a thing the coasts do well.

A year ago exactly on this same night we were assembled here in this very room. I your pastor and you my beloved flock. With hopefulness in my heart, I told you then that with Lucifer's aid we might look forward to a more succulent occasion. Cast back your mind. There we were, gathered together gloomy and despondent, around that single meager woodcutter...
... I feel much better now.

I am conflicted :)
I'm a police fan of a very very primal nature, I have studied Stu Copeland's drumming to the point of obsession
But I'm also a musician that knows that musiciains cover songs that are important to them, it's a fact of life.
712 | windsagio Thu, May 5, 2011 10:19:21pm |
speaking of the Police, This is the most upsetting result to a youtube search ever.

I dislike mashups
I LOVE 80's covers by metal bands
So here are many of those:
I am looking at you Slumbering Behemoth: Devin Townsend does the intro scream on this, with Paradise Lost
Devin Townsend may be my spirit animal, what a unique and fucking terrifying genius on earth, what a guy with the voice of Hell who cannot exist but yet he does

Guys, quick petition immigration question...
We're working things out with an accountant to explain why I haven't filed a tax return since I got here in '06. We've got the "not meeting minimal income" bits down but they also need proof that I've been in college here since then.
So do I need an unofficial transcript or official one?
When in doubt, get the official one. I'm trying to immigrate to Canada. I have found that for most everything, they want original, official documents. So. I say to get the official one.

BLASPHEMERS! HERETICS! FOUL DECEIVERS!
That is what makes it a "conflicting cover" for me. My '80s hessian roots forbid me from giving due credit to anyone who covers the lord our god Dio (or any other of our various metal gods), but at the same time I can't help preferring the Killswitch version.
Don't tell any of my old HS buddies. They might try to pull my hesh card.

You know, the funny thing is, the *questions* I've heard have actually been pretty reasonable. The answers are utterly nonsensical and they aren't being pressed to actually respond to what was asked, of course.
yeah republican politicians LOVE to just say crazy shit while playing "fast and loose" with the facts, and then use said crazy shit as justification for their insane party-line policies
