Newt the Toad

Gingrich calls Obama a ‘food stamp president’
Wingnuts • Views: 37,096

“Race-baiting pig” also works for serial philanderer Newt Gingrich.

MACON, Ga.— Republican Newt Gingrich told a Georgia audience on Friday evening that the 2012 presidential election is the most consequential since the 1860 race that elected Abraham Lincoln to the White House and was soon followed by the Civil War.

Addressing the Georgia Republican Party’s convention, Gingrich said the nation is at a crossroads and that the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama would lead to four more years of “radical left-wing values” that would drive the nation to ruin.

Gingrich also blasted Obama as “the most successful food stamp president in modern American history.”

The Republican Party is fielding quite a roster of bigots and throwbacks for 2012, but Gingrich has to be the most personally repellent one of the bunch.

I'm pleasantly surprised (not) that we have come this far with our neophyte pres and still no sickle and star over the WH...exaggeration has become a mind numbing disease in this country

Mother Jones has a great article, Newt's greatest hits over 33 years.

Newt in His Own Words: 33 Years of Bomb-Throwing

here's the first one:

1978 In an address to College Republicans before he was elected to the House, Gingrich says: "I think one of the great problems we have in the Republican party is that we don't encourage you to be nasty. We encourage you to be neat, obedient, and loyal and faithful and all those Boy Scout words."

Thank you Newt for helping the nastiness of political discourse along, racing to the bottom.

yes, the perfect thing to compare to lincoln is beating down a black man (politically).

It's also offensive as all hell. Newt might as well just call Obama the N-word and be done with it already. All this dancing around the subject is annoying.

Nowadays, they've stopped trying to deny flat-out that they're racists and instead taken to arguing semantics, saying folks who see "racism" in images or words do so because they want to accuse the Right of racism, not because the images and words are classically identified as racist.

In that same speech, Newt vowed to do away with capital gains taxes and the estate tax, and to cut corporate income tax from 35% to 12%. TWELVE percent!

Ignore the coded race stuff; it's just a ploy to turn out the racist voters. Keep your eye on the passage of wealth to the very wealthy. That's what it's really about. Every noise these people make about the dangers of the deficit is equallly hogwash, scare tactics in the hopes that their preferred solution (which, er, passes wealth to the wealthy) will go unquestioned.

I don't mean that the deficit isn't a problem; I mean that the Republicans are in no way serious about it. They just don't want to let a good crisis go to waste.

I listened to Ron Paul give some "explanations" about his views on society yesterday and even though he is more forthcoming about where he stands, he does seem to represent the fundamentals of Republicans very clearly.

The bottom line seems to be that they do not believe in a Nation. They believe only in an "every man for himself free for all" with minimal coordinated cooperation between states, or even counties.

International Relations are reduced to Isolationism.

They would build no national railway, no national highway system, no Hoover Dam, and they would never visit Mars let alone walk on the moon or visit Pluto, because there is no quarterly profit in it.

But they will tell you what not to do in your bedroom.

Food stamps are so '90s.

Today, all food-stamp benefits are distributed using cards but for most of its history the program had actually used paper denominational stamps or coupons worth US$1 (brown colored), US$5 (blue colored), and US$10 (green colored). These stamps could be used to purchase any prepackaged edible foods regardless of nutritional value (for example soft drinks and confectionery could be purchased on food stamps). In the late 1990s, the food-stamp program was revamped and actual stamps were phased out in favor of a specialized debit-card system known as Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) provided by private contractors. Many states merged the use of the EBT card for public-assistance welfare programs as well. The successful replacement over time of all paper food stamps by EBT cards enabled the U.S. Congress to rename the Food Stamp Program to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, as of October 2008, and to update all references in federal law from "stamp" or "coupon" to "card" or "EBT". This was effectuated on June 18, 2008, by U.S. House Resolution 6124, The Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008, enacted as Public Law over U.S. President George W. Bush's veto.[2][3]

Meanwhile, Qaddafi is continuing to use Human Shields in an evil way. From Andrew Gilligan:

Even for an Arab dictator, it is an unusually cynical variant of the "human shield" gambit. On the roof of his Tripoli command bunker, Colonel Gaddafi has installed a children's fairground.Forty feet away from the crater made on Thursday by a NATO bomb, young boys and girls played happily on a roundabout shaped like a giant tea set.We had been brought deep inside Gaddafi's leadership compound, which takes up at least a full square mile of Tripoli city centre, to witness what the regime called "Nato's madness" in attacking women and children. But the trip succeeded only in showing that if anyone has put civilians in harm's way, it is the government of Libya. Also near the top of the bunker, which is covered with grass, civilians have been brought to live in tents, ready to sacrifice themselves for the good of their leader."This is a place of recreation, a public park where the people of Tripoli often come," insisted Moussa Ibrahim, the government spokesman. But this "public park" is reached by passing through no fewer than four concentric rings of 15-foot blast walls, checkpoints and sentry towers. Heavily armed guards stand around the outermost perimeter, moving on any passer-by who might mistake the place for somewhere to throw a frisbee.Bv........y Andrew Gilligan in Tripoli 8:00PM BST 14 May 2011Even for an Arab dictator, it is an unusually cynical variant of the "human shield" gambit. "going" nuts?

Believe it or not the left under the Bush years had some serious problems. Conspiracy theories, rabid anger, childish foriegn policy expectations, idiotic instincts about terrorism, etc. There was some ugly stuff on the right but it was mostly hidden or little understood. Michelle Malkin writting for Vdare was one of the first clues I can recall that something wasn't quite right. The right wing blogs used to be fairly honest and accurate even though might might not agree with their opinions. Today it's all gone to shit.

In an interview with The Associated Press earlier Friday Gingrich said he's grown more mature since his days as House speaker, and before that, when he was often described as a bomb-throwing insurgent member of the House Republican minority.

So does growing more mature in Newt's pea-sized brain mean he doesn't run around on his wife and ask for a divorce when said wife is about to die?

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened one bay of the Morganza Spillway Saturday afternoon
, which will funnel 10,000 cubic feet per second of water off the Mississippi River.

Col. Ed Fleming said one or two more bays will be opened Sunday. He said everyone living within the first 24 hours of seeing water has been evacuated.

He added those floodwaters will go to Interstate 10 over the Atchafalaya Basin in the first 24 hours.

The spillway has the capacity to divert 600,000 cubic feet per second. Fleming said at this point, he expects the spillway to be operated at 25 percent of that total capacity.

For anyone who is interested, there's a video at the link of the bay being opened and water beginning to flow (you'll have to sit thru a short ad, ugh).

For those of you who aren't interested, my deepest apologies for being a bit single-minded about this over the past few days.

Here is the clip that made them famous in the UK (even though they are American) when they performed This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both of Us on Top of the Pops in 1974...the song went to #2 over there and the BBC reportedly got loads of complaints for putting Hitler on television!

I thought that was his schtick in that band - that of the disinterested co-founder.

He's the singer's twin brother, BTW.

Not a twin, born 3 years earlier.

Oops. I stand corrected.

I do know that before they were Sparks, they were Halfnelson - and Todd Rundgren produced that album (and pleaded with them not to change their name, to no avail).

They should hire you to deal with bratty band members for big events. After you kick the brat's ass, they'll learn not to be pissy like that.

one bad attitude can destroy a band....there are fine players everywhere ready to step in

Rundgren's then boss Albert Grossman (famous as Bob Dylan's manager) suggested the name "Sparx Brothers" as their Halfnelson album wasn't selling. Saprks was the compromise name...has stuck for 40 years and 21 albums.

I just learned that the bass player in Halfnelson was none other than James Mankey, who went on to be the guitar player in Concrete Blonde.

You learn something new every day.

Didn't you know? The American Dream only applies if you're a straight, white Christian male landowner, just like the Founders intended.

///

I'm afraid every time I hear the phrase 'American Dream' I think of that scene in Watchmen between the second Night Owl and the Comedian.

Night Owl: What's happened to us? What happened to the American Dream?

Comedian: What happened to the American Dream? Look around you. It came true!

OK, so does anybody want to ask why the GOP only gets about 5%-8% of the AA vote in any given election? Or has everyone figured it out already?

Newt knows the only narrative that a GOP candidate can possible win with is "Vote White."

Newt Gingrich is ugly inside and out.

190 dragonfire1981  Sat, May 14, 2011 9:25:50pm

This is fascinating to me because I've only been in the U.S. since mid 2008. I really have no clue what the right wing looked like during the time of George W Bush or Clinton because I wasn't around.

As a result all I see is a GOP nearly run completely off the rails by fear of a black president which, if I may so myself, is one of the STUPIDEST FUCKING THINGS EVER.

Yes, he's black. So what? We all bleed red, we all feel the same emotions and deal with the same challenges. There is no way anyone can tell me with a straight face that if Obama was white nothing would be different.

It was always expected his skin color would be the defining element of Obama's presidency and that has to come to pass, albeit in an extremely racist, intolerant and paranoid way.

I often wonder what Obama himself thinks of all this. He's let on here and there that it frustrates him, but I'd love to hear his candid thoughts on these nutjobs.

It just truly stuns me that so many people feel America is doomed (tm) simply because we have a black man in charge now.

I expect a similar response if (and more likely when) we get our first Hispanic President.

191 Martinsmithy  Sat, May 14, 2011 10:43:37pm

Newt's still unhappy that John Breckenridge didn't win in 1860.

Wait, what?

I'm not sure what he's getting at.

We bought Obama at the grocery store with a food stamps card?

Or is this a swipe at the economy? The current economic mess started long before he was president.

I didn't know you could buy a president with food stamps.

I mean, you can't even buy a live goat with food stamps in this country.*

*Sad commentary on the limitations of American food stamp regulation, uttered by one child in a friend's class to another. It was met with a sympathetic 'dude'.

re: #17 iceweasel

I think Obama's mom was on food stamps at one point, I can't remember.

in which case, as SB said, Newt is taking a dump on the American Dream, by ridiculing someone for having that in his background. Whar'd yáll get the idear that anyone could be Preznit, huh?

My folks were on food stamps for a while. If I became president, I wouldn't really consider this one of the defining issues of my childhood.

I guess Rush felt like he was being left behind in his race-baiting in the past few days, because he let forth a real doozie yesterday.

Limbaugh: "Institutionalized Hatred Of This Country [Is] Being Taught" In African-American Households

How the hell would Rush know that? Crap, Snerdley ratted everyone out.

It's not about race. Newt has been on the "food stamp economy" kick for awhile.

Newt Gingrich’s new messaging strategy has been to tell Republican candidates to label Democrats “the party of food stamps,” while, claiming the GOP is in turn “the party of paychecks.”

Government is bad. Receiving assistance from government? You should be ashamed.

That's the impression I get thinking of the rhetoric and messages coming from conservatives for the last 20 years.

But tax breaks for corporations tied to 'approved' industries like energy or ag, it's all good.

198 Bulworth  Mon, May 16, 2011 7:00:46am
Gingrich also blasted Obama as “the most successful food stamp president in modern American history.”

Um, what?
