Very powerful. Mitt comes off looking like a tool of the far right. Good luck escaping from the Roach Motel.

I can hear the screams now about Obama stooping to negative advertising, hit pieces, etc. when all his campaign is doing is showing Romney and the GOP stating their own policy positions.

The truth is proving to be quite an obstacle for the GOP. Good.

Wingnuts complain (or did until Romney cinched the nomination) that Mitt won’t sign the Personhood Pledge, and he skipped their forum. I think he was preserving his Etch-a-Sketchability.

If the GOP thinks they are going to be able to escape from this issue, they had better have a serious talk with Chairman Limbaugh. The only thing I ever hear from him besides misogynistic attacks on Hillary Clinton, the first lady or Sandra Fluke is lavish praise for the oil industry.

9 Gus  Sat, Apr 28, 2012 10:53:32am

Mitt Romney is not a moderate. Americans will have to take him at his word and see him for the extremist he has portrayed himself to be.

Mitt Romney. Too extreme for women and too extreme for America.

Remember the word: Lahar?

This is how I view the future and what the Whacko’s don’t seem to get. The future will flow where it may, being directed by forces beyond our immediate control. It’s path is determined not so much by our current action, but by actions so far in the past, it is impossible to re-direct them.

The future is millions of people younger than me and the candidates.

Whatever chance Mitt might have had has vanished with a. the religious right doubling down on its anti-women campaign and, b. Romney going whole hog pandering to the RRs.
Oh, well, the RR leadership will be happy. Their guy won’t get to the White House, EVER, but they will reap huge profits on DVDs, speaking fees, home-schooling supplies, health supplements and the other shoddy merchandise that is their real concern.
Happy marketing, assholes, and RIP, GOP.

The internet provides cretins a larger echo chamber than their local underside-of-a-rock, perhaps giving them further reinforcement that they are surely correct about their hate of the day. On the other hand, it encourages them to do it in the light of day, for all to see.

Give and take. I’m not sure if it’s a net gain or loss.

Which was stupid. Obama gave them a win. If they’d taken the rules as he set them up, where the birth control coverage mandate was off the table, but insurance companies could still approach women directly without involving the religious employer at all, the GOP could have gone around crowing about how they preserved religious liberty and kept the Dems from forcing the issue of birth control, or something.

Instead they let Limbaugh set the tone and the RWNJs followed him off a cliff into cuckoo land.

For the first time, children would be protected on non-family owned farms. Working with pesticides, lumber mills, animals, manure pits, storage bins, and many other jobs that children are often employed to perform would be regulated. But Sarah Palin doesn’t think America needs to protect kids.

Wow. I never knew that kids were not covered under such protections for NON-FAMILY owned farms. How are these any different from factories, etc. (besides being more dangerous)?

They’re not. Big Agriculture has gotten a lot of mileage by putting on a plaid shirt, chewing a piece of straw, and saying “We’s just hardworking farmers here.” And it’s bull. They’re big industry. The smartest thing I ever heard Barak Obama say, and the reason I supported him from the day he announced, was in mid-2006.

“It’s insane that both parties are spending all their efforts fighting over 2 or 3 million swing voters. The future belongs to whoever can motivate the 40 million who are eligible to vote but aren’t even registered.”

This is why “community organizer” was a valid credential. McCain pulled as many votes as George W Bush did… and Obama beat him by 9-1/2 million. Booyah.

(and this is why Republican governors and state legislatures are trying to make it harder to vote.)

Kids aren’t covered under non-family owned farms because migrant farm workers often have their kids in tow working in the fields too. Giving those kids child labor law protections is important, but of course Caribou Barbie seems to have a problem with that.

Children who are migrant workers are exposed to dangerous chemicals and pesticides, work in hellish conditions, and are also around dangerous, heavy machinery that NO OTHER INDUSTRY allows kids to handle. A 16 year old migrant worker on a farm can use a forklift but if Wal-Mart or Home Depot would try that people would flip their shit.

Also, children who work on farms as migrant workers account for 20% of all farm-related fatalities. There is no good reason to deny these kids child labor law protections unless you think that migrant farmer kids deserve to work in those conditions.

Kinda sweet for the Obama campaign that the Republican primaries dragged on so long and forced Mitt to move so far to the extreme Right to win. At this point the campaign ads practically write themselves, no heavy lifting required.

Now that the primary is over Romney is of course trying his best to sound centrist and non-threatening to the undecided, but with all the far right positions he has staked out in the primary that is going to be exceedingly difficult for him to pull off convincingly.
