Fake Wingnut Outrage of the Day: Obama Canceled Bin Laden Raid! Gasp!
As soon as word broke that Osama bin Laden had been killed in Pakistan by a SEAL team, right wingers started working diligently to deny the accomplishment to President Obama.
The latest ludicrous “bombshell scoop” being trumpeted all over the right wing blogs is the “stunning revelation” that President Obama exercised caution in the operation, and called it off several times. The Daily Caller’s breathless headline: Book Bombshell: Obama Canceled Bin Laden ‘Kill’ Raid Three Times at Jarrett’s Urging.
At the urging of Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden on three separate occasions before finally approving the May 2, 2011 Navy SEAL mission, according to an explosive new book scheduled for release August 21. The Daily Caller has seen a portion of the chapter in which the stunning revelation appears.
In ”Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors Who Decide for Him,“ Richard Miniter writes that Obama canceled the “kill” mission in January 2011, again in February, and a third time in March. Obama’s close adviser Valerie Jarrett persuaded him to hold off each time, according to the book.
Miniter, a two-time New York Times best-selling author, cites an unnamed source with Joint Special Operations Command who had direct knowledge of the operation and its planning.
Why is this a “bombshell?” Don’t we want a President to plan carefully and consult with advisers in such an important matter? Would the wingnuts prefer we just send in the SEALS with guns blazing, regardless of the conditions, wild west-style?
It’s yet another ridiculous fake outrage, and all the right wing blogs are parroting it in unison, once again. Wingnuts live in their own universe these days, with its own rules and strange assumptions about reality.
