Pat Robertson Muses About Gays Being Stoned to Death

Today on the 700 Club, televangelist Pat Robertson reflected on a recent reading of the Old Testament and warned gays and lesbians that the land will “vomit you out.” Robertson said that Leviticus lists homosexuality as an “abomination” on par with incest and bestiality, “and those who do that in the Old Testament were stoned to death.”

Of course, Robertson also believes that we should ignore what the Old Testament said about slavery.

But addressing climate change has been a low priority for Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who took office in 2010. That’s because while these fine, upstanding citizens are fascinated with Teh Gayz, the majority of people are heterosexual and far more likely to be committing adultery. Stoning the adulterers is not going to have the same popular support as stoning Those People Over There.

It’s the same as defending marriage by not letting some people get married rather than making divorce more difficult.

Likely they’ve tried adultery and found that it’s just more of the same. I’m reminded of a cartoon I saw years ago, with two identical looking couples sitting identical couches facing each other. One of them says, “I can’t think what we ever saw in those wifeswapping parties.”

I have become fond of smothered pork chops. You can use poorer cuts (actually you should do so) and it is much less difficult to ruin them. However, I’ve discovered I prefer sauerkraut over onion for the base.

When the kids were at home we would do “grocery store night”. Everyone would get in the car and head to the store. Each would wander up and down the isles picking out what they wanted for dinner. Once at home we would cook it up. Sometimes it was one meal. Sometimes it was four. It was one of our favorite ways to spend an evening at home with the family. Sounds kind of silly when I explain it to others.

Not fond of kraut (too much of it growing up), but with an onion base I bet I could get the older son to make it. He’s fond of onions and garlic. He’ll use most of a head of garlic making Spaghetti Carbonara.

ok, then here’s the sloppy man recipe.

1-2 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup (approximate) flour with 2 teaspoons each salt and pepper.
Two to four pork chops.
One to two onions, sliced or julienned.
2 cups chicken broth.
deep skillet with good fitting lid.

Cut up the onions. Dredge the chops. Heat the skillet over medium heat till hot.
Add 1 tablespoon of oil to pan and tilt it to cover the bottom.
Put in two chops for 2-3 minutes, turn and cook for another 3-4 minutes. You’re not going for done, you’re going for a pretty brown coating. Set them aside on a plate.
If you’ve got four chops, add the other tablespoon of oil and do those chops.
Add the onions to the skillet and start stirring to get up all the cooked on flour. When the onions have slightly softened add the broth. You might not need all the broth; the onions should form an island that barely stands above the broth. Bring the broth to a boil.
Turn the heat to low. Put the chops on the onion island. Put on the lid. Walk away for 30 minutes.
At the half hour check the chops - the meat should be falling off the bone. If not cook about ten more minutes. The broth will have formed a medium gravy. Serve with something that likes gravy (besides the meat).

Oh - and the nice thing about using kraut instead of onions is that this mellows the kraut a lot. And you can, if you wish, use any other veggie that’ll stand up to being cooked for half an hour. I’ve used shredded carrots and cabbage successfully.

73 JonnyB  Tue, Jul 9, 2013 8:05:28am

I haven’t commented in a while, in fact my old username was suspended apparently since it’s been a while so I made a new one just to comment on the slavery thing: the Bible doesn’t command slavery, but it simply assumes it as part of the economy of the ancient world, just like it assumes the existence of donkeys and camels, and so there will be laws about it. What needs to be looked at though is *how* the Bible deals with these things. Regarding slavery, slaves need to be treated like members of your own family, and if you abuse them they go free. But there’s no requirement to own slaves! Again, the Bible assumes it. The tenth commandment says in part “do not covet your neighbor’s ox or donkey”, but it doesn’t command that you must own an ox or a donkey! So it’s important to separate what is a unique commandment and what is simply a reflection of the time period which the Bible deals with, or “case law”, common to the Bible and other cultures, and where the Bible will be more progressive COMPARED to other cultures from that time. So it’s not inconsistent for Robertson to ignore what the Bible says about slavery (which is not anything actually). In fact it was the Bible itself which planted the seeds regarding the sanctity of all human life, which helped lead to the end of slavery.

74 Absalom, Absalom, Obdicut  Thu, Jul 11, 2013 4:17:44am

re: #73 JonnyB

Why doesn’t the bible just say not to own slaves because that’s obviously a terrible thing to do?
