RNC Spokesman on Cliven Bundy: Conservatives Are the Real Victims

A fine whine

The Republican National Committee’s top spokesman, Sean Spicer, appeared on CNN today and said yeah, sure, Cliven Bundy’s racist comments were very very bad, but conservatives are the real victims here.

“I think the comments that Mr. Bundy made with respect to race and other things were inappropriate and wrong, 100 percent out of line and not part of the discourse we need to have,” Spicer said. “But that being said, what I find fascinating as the chief spokesman for the Republican Party is that when a guy has a problem with cattle grazing and has a discussion about the size of the federal government and the overreach of the federal government, makes a comment every reporter calls the Republican National Committee asking for comment.”

Spicer went on to accuse the media of ignoring incidents that involved Democratic politics.

“When similar incidents happen time and time again on the left,” he said, “there is zero coverage. Absolutely zero.”

Hilarious. Spicer somehow forgot to mention the numerous Republican politicians and pundits and radio hacks who, two days ago, were hailing Bundy as the conservative movement’s latest hero.

I suppose it’s a good thing Republicans are now scrambling to disassociate from Bundy, but why were they OK with the militias, threats to kill BLM agents, snipers, sovereign citizens, plans to use women as human shields, etc.?

You’ve got the ear of the nation…or at least a chunk of it…because of a property dispute with the BLM.

You got microphones pointed out you that can take your message around the world.

You make about half your speech about how black folks have been duped by the government and were better off as slaves. Not a comment embedded within a larger text; twenty grinding minutes of how minorites are “against us” because they take welfare money.

Somehow, your choice to take your moment of fame and make it about stale racist tropes is the fault of everybody who stood there and recorded what you said.

Yeah, it’s the horrible media that made this not about the BLM.

It’s that Bundy’s comments fitted so neatly into the stereotypical
rhetoric of the GOP:
Gingrich: “food stamp president”
Reagan: “welfare queens”
Untold numbers: “Liberal Plantation”

Seriously. It’s terrible! Conservatives may have to explain why they stood toe to toe with a racist asshole who doesn’t understand why slavery was so bad and refers to blacks as “nigras.”Seriously for a bunch of people who talk about “personal responsibility”, conservatives and I hate to generalize here but man conservatives don’t practice it at all. There’s no “We may have screwed up in supporting this guy.” Nope, no sir, it’s blame the left for criticizing them for supporting him. Here’s a tip right wingers. I believe Bachmann said the same thing pretty much in the Republican primaries. I don’t recall any of her opponents calling her out on it. I think Frank had a great point last night when he said that white conservatives have no idea how utterly bigoted and condescending they sound when they try to claim that slavery wasn’t so bad and some crap about how at least with slavery the African American family unit was still intact which is utter bs of course knowing what we know what the slave trade did to families.

Yep. If you really mean that slavery is better than being on welfare than you should be advocating more whites being put in that state than blacks. Though, of course, you are also then openly advocating class war rather than race war. And that admission might not play so well in certain areas of the nut base.

In a weird way he’s sorta right, because the “better off as slaves” argument is really not unusual among conservative politicians/pundits. But when Bundy prefaced that with “the nigra,” he made it very clear where that argument is coming from.

Having listened to the tape, I think people are giving Bundy too much benefit of the doubt that he was trying to say negro vs. the n-word. At the very least, he’s mangling the pronunciation so he can get ever-so-close to saying the n-word and not be taken to task for it.

The Internet needs its own Cliven Bundy.

Some guy who gets fawning accolades for breaking the law? Isn’t Edward Snowden already wearing that crown?

David Dewhurst campaign ad uses footage he doesn’t own despite the objection of the copyright holders, because fuck you, that’s why.

KERA has received numerous queries about whether the station played any role in a commercial released last week by the campaign of Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Texans have asked whether we gave permission for the campaign to use images of our reporter asking a question during KERA’s Jan. 27 debate. They’ve asked whether our reporter agreed to appear in the Dewhurst ad. The answer to both is an emphatic “No.” The campaign did not ask KERA for permission to use the footage, and when the ad was released on April 16, KERA immediately objected. The Dewhurst campaign responded by saying it would not pull the ad.

About recognizing Israel. The new Fatah-Hamas coalition. Abbas allegedly told Kerry that they might recognize Israel.

They should occupy the Bundy ranch to protest Bundy’s exploitation of cows. Could 5000 naked PETA-heads succeed where the feds gun-totin’ militias have failed?

OT - today is DNA Day.

Lots of interesting stuff out there on DNA, what it means, etc.

Celebrating DNA Day, 2014

Wait - today is DNA Day? How ironic that I, whose entire career has been built on sequencing and engineering that stuff didn’t know that.

Dear RNC,
You guys pandered to this shit. Stop bitching that you’ve stepped in it.

Exactly. We would never have heard about Cliven Bundy unless Hannity, Fox News, Rightwing media and Republican politicians had not brought him to our attention as a hero, patriot and Gandhi-like figure.

As Ms. Morrisette asked: “Isn’t it ironic?”
