Blogger Chuck Johnson Knows Who to Blame for Being Suspended From Twitter: Me

Apparently I control Twitter now

Chuck C. Johnson posing with his best friend

Right wing blogger Chuck C. Johnson’s statements about being suspended from Twitter for the second time in a week (for posting private information) are a hoot, starting with the wildly self-aggrandizing title of the post at his creepy website: Twitter Suspends Journalist for Reporting Ahead of the Curve (Again) - Got News.

Just as with the post about his previous suspension, he got someone else to put a byline on it so it would look more “professional.”

Let’s get right into the conspiracy theories, shall we?

Johnson points out that the Daily Mail, the Dallas Morning News, and numerous other outlets published both Pham’s address and her name but only after Johnson reported it. “Apparently Twitter wants me to suck at reporting so that the other reporters can have a job.”

We know right wingers believe corporations are people, but this takes it to a new level; Chuck seems to think Twitter as a whole is out to get him. The word for this is “paranoia.”

As for the media sites that published Pham’s name, they did so only after confirming with her family, which is known as “responsible journalism.” Chuck, on the other hand, irresponsibly published the name without confirmation, based on tips from anonymous (and racist — this is the guy who gave him Pham’s address) Twitter users, at a time when the family was asking media not to reveal it.

[… several paragraphs of paranoid conspiracy theories…]

“The purpose of publishing the addresses of people infected with Ebola at Gotnews-and not on Twitter-has been to avoid those houses and to protect the public’s health,” Johnson says. “Only a moron would go to the houses to get Ebola.”

It strains belief to the breaking point to think that Chuck doesn’t understand that publishing names and addresses of Ebola patients puts people at risk, because there are some crazies out there (many of whom follow blogs like Chuck’s; see the preceding paragraph). Surely he realizes this?

“Of course when my personal address is revealed or my phone number Twitter’s @support seems unable to block the accounts,” Johnson noted. “When people threaten to kill me or have Anonymous target me, nobody seems to mind much. Fortunately I’ve got the Second Amendment to protect myself if Twitter won’t follow the First Amendment or their own rules.”

If someone is threatening Chuck on Twitter he can file a report like anyone else. Or he can just threaten to shoot them, as he’s doing here.

(And of course, as a private company Twitter is not bound by the First Amendment.)

But here’s the real kicker: Chuck seems to think I control Twitter now.

“It’s probably that loser over at Little Green Footballs,” Johnson said. “The guy has been stalking me for months for having the same name. It’s sad that Twitter has joined the censorship campaign but unsurprising. I’ve been fighting censors since I edited the high school newspaper. I’ve never lost. I’ll win this fight, too.”

I hope he doesn’t shoot me.

UPDATE at 10/14/14 12:59:54 pm by Charles Johnson

Via TPM, a new detail suggests that Chuck may not be getting his account back this time: Yes, Chuck Johnson Has Been Suspended From Twitter Again.

Johnson wrote to TPM later on Tuesday to say he isn’t sure that’s why he was suspended by Twitter this time around.

“Twitter isn’t providing any reason why I am suspended,” he said in an email. “They won’t say if it’s because of private information; they e (sic) just suspended me.”

When they just suspend you without any notice or explanation, this is known as a “bad sign.”

Who censors the censors? /

Who edits the editors? /

I can’t help but laugh at CCJ’s smug sanctimonious spewage. He’s blaming everyone else for his second suspension in a week - all for violating the Twitter TOS.

He thinks he’s getting singled out because other news outlets have released the same information. There are key differences. How he got the information and releasing it without first checking with the persons involved.

He’s doing it in order to be First!

He did that before - and got key information wrong. He has repeatedly claimed that Michael Brown had a felony murder in his juvenile record (FIRST!) but that simply exists as a figment of his deluded imagination (and the imaginations of his sources, which could also be voices in his head, and without further proof to the contrary, it’s reasonable).

Chucky does understand that if Twitter says he can’t use their private service anymore, then that’s that, right? The courts are not going to rule that he has a right to use a privately owned service for his own personal advancement.

OT, but an unusual event here in the Czech Republic is certainly dominating the news here.

An unidentified woman stabbed and killed a 16-year-old male student at a Czech high school and injured three other people on Tuesday, a police spokeswoman said.

Police detained the 26-year-old woman, who injured a police officer and two other female students at the school in Zdar nad Sazavou, 160 km (100 miles) southeast of the Czech capital Prague.

“A 16-year boy was wounded (and) died despite all efforts by medics,” police spokeswoman Jana Prouzova said.

She added police did not yet know the motive for the attack.

reuters.com

The attacker’s name hasn’t been released, but it’s being reported that she was from Ostrava, and that she’d done something similar a couple of years back.

A 26-year-old woman stormed a secondary school, stabbed a 16-year-old boy to death and wounded two girls and a police called in on the spot of the accident today in Žďár nad Sázavou, police spokeswoman Jana Kroutilová has told ČTK.

The police say the attacker had no ties to the school.

The two students were taken to hospital. “One injury was rather serious, the other one a light one,” regional rescue service director Vladislava Filová told ČTK.

A similar case, but not with such tragic consequences, happened in May 2012. A 24-year-old woman entered a school in Havířov, north Moravia, carrying several weapons.

She used a knife to attack a woman in the canteen who tried to protect a seven-year-old girl. The woman was stabbed, and the attacker shut herself with the girl in the next room. The police succeeded in liberating the child and detaining the attacker.

The criminal prosecution was halted in December 2012 because the perpetrator was found to be mentally deranged.

praguepost.com

Like a co-worker of mine said earlier….”The crazy is breaking out all over - the lunatics are coming out of the woodwork.”

Edited to add - it’s the same woman responsible for both incidents. She was released earlier this year from psychiatric care and she moved away from Ostrava. That info comes from Czech-language media.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that far right-wing ideology is becoming synonymous with mental illness - paranoia, delusions of grandeur, erratic unfocused rages/tirades, inability to distinguish between reality and fantasy … perhaps if the mental-health system had not been so thoroughly dismantled starting under Reagan, there might not be as many people listening to Limbaugh, et al.

More on the incident in the Czech Republic earlier today - Blesk, a national Czech-language tabloid, clearly has UpChuck on their editorial staff as their article which I just checked gave the full name of the perpetrator - which is a violation of Czech law until that person has been duly convicted of the crime. The press is supposed to report them by their first name and the first initial of their last name, and that’s it.

Blesk is gonna catch hell for that one. In any event, the suspect is 26 years old, and the deceased student died as the result of his intervening when the suspect attacked a female student.

The other two injured are in the hospital, one said to be in serious condition owing to multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdominal area. The doctors are optimistic, however, that she’ll pull through.

Perhaps, but still, they’re not supposed to unless she’s convicted of this incident.

Speculation here is that after this, she’ll put in an asylum for an exceedingly long time. Most likely, the rest of her life - there’s ways it can be done legally.

Needless to say, there’s a lot of questions as to why was she released earlier this year, and was she being monitored as a potential danger to herself or others, etc., etc. The PM promised a thorough investigation into the matter with the Ministry of Justice, which handles such matters.

Mercifully, such events are extraordinarily uncommon here.

67 Vogon Poetry  Oct 14, 2014 12:19:25pm

This shooting incident may have indeed been justified. Happening a month after Michael Brown, Vonderitt Myers was shot and killed by an off-duty STL police officer who was moonlighting as a security guard. That raises difficult questions over the circumstances of the shooting and the STL area police departments have no leeway in addressing excessive force and officer-involved shooting; there’s no goodwill between the community and police because of the fact that the police still don’t recognize that they’ve done the community wrong and that they are racially profiling blacks and minorities and that unarmed blacks are being killed by officers.

The police union has released some information about the case, and it would tend to support the STL PD contention that this was a justified shooting. Gunshot residue was found on Myers’ hands and inside the waistband of his pants.

The Missouri Highway Patrol analysis found gunshot residue on Myers’ hands, on his shirt and inside the waistband and pockets of his jeans. Police said that although gunshot residue can be present on anyone near a shooting, the results show levels consistent with Myers being the shooter, because the police officer was standing too far away.

Ballistics evidence also revealed three bullets that hit the ground where the officer was trying to take cover matched Myers’ gun. A round found inside a car behind the officer was too badly damaged to be able to to match it to his gun, however, it did not match the type of bullets the officer fired, police said.

Several photographs showing Myers holding three guns, including one that looked like the stolen Smith & Wesson gun recovered at the scene, circulated on social media after his death. The police officer’s attorney, Brian Millikan, said that his client recognized both Myers and the distinctive, two-tone semiautomatic in the pictures.

A lot of the “witness” claims that Myers was unarmed came from people who weren’t at the scene of the incident, but second hand information only after the shooting occurred. This is unlike the Brown case, where multiple contemporaneous witnesses were saying that Brown was unarmed and his hands were up when he was fatally shot by Officer Wilson.

Each of these officer involved shooting / excessive force cases has to be taken individually to address the facts and circumstances unique to each. The community has a right to prompt information about these cases, and uniform treatment of how the cases will be investigated (it’s exceptionally difficult to police the police, let alone prosecute law enforcement when both are often on the same side and looking out for each other in a symbiotic manner). Moving towards an automatic independent prosecutor to investigate these cases from the ground up - and set clear methods for handling all evidence in the case is a good idea.

re: #69 Jenner7

I totally understand that Rep Jeff Roorda is involved in this case as well. The facts and circumstances are different.

The Brown case is an unjustified shooting and excessive force resulting in the death of an unarmed man at the hands of Officer Wilson.

The Myers case may yet be a justified shooting.

Just because Roorda is involved doesn’t alter the facts of either case. We shouldn’t dismiss the evidence regarding the Myers case because Roorda is involved.

That’s also why I say that the Myers shooting may have been justified. I didn’t say that it was justified. This is not the only evidence in the case.

The weight of evidence provided so far in the Brown case would and should be cause for an indictment against Darren Wilson.

The evidence so far in the Myers case isn’t likely to result in an indictment. The evidence doesn’t tend to support unjustified use of force.

Is King suggesting that the police are planting evidence? That does seem to be his implication. I don’t think that’s the case with the Myers incident.

Interesting: Yes, Chuck Johnson Has Been Suspended From Twitter Again.

Not even an email explanation — it’s starting to look like Chuck really screwed the pooch this time.

The media are reporting on this “report” as if it was a done deal or had any meaning other than its PR value.

The Synod met for two weeks of open discussion about “family matters” which ranged from abortion and contraception to SSM amongst other issues. They are now on a one year hiatus to research the discussed positions, hold private discussions, and work towards refining their positions individually (while seeking the lord’s guidance one would hope).

A year from now the Synod will reconvene for further group discussion and only then will any formal position be decided upon and promulgated to the faithful.

Yes - different police forces involved. Different procedures involved.

We don’t have anything on the Brown shooting that corresponds to any of this. No results from ballistics. No photos from the scene. Nothing.

It’s radio static from the FPD and STL County PD, which is heading the investigation on the Brown death.

To me, it looks like the police union and the officer’s attorney want to get ahead of any possible grand jury being seated by showing that they had good reason to shoot. It was a leak to stave off any possible grand jury.

Again, that’s unlike Darren Wilson’s actions and those of the FPD/STL County Police, which has essentially buried all the evidence in a black hole, with an assist from a favorable prosecutor who isn’t going to go out of his way to prosecute a cop for homicide.

I’m willing to accept that it’s highly probable that the Myers incident was a good shoot. But the changing story (he turned and shot/he struggled and shot/he fell and shot) and the admission that the cop acted on nothing more than seeing a black teen run does not sit well with me at all. While Myers may have provoked the shots that killed him, there is still a very strong case to be made that what set this off was racial profiling.

Damn… $80 bucks for that? Yeah, here’s the outrage. You can DIY that for a fraction of the price.

Heavy duty overalls: $11.
Boots: $26.
Protective hood: $8.95.

So, for $45 or so, you can get the same kit from Home Depot (or Lowes). Add a biohazard sticker for another $6.

Got everything I’d need to do better in the garage—Tyvek painting suit, milspec chemical agent resistant gloves, and a Scott airpack. It’s still a little too real/too soon.

She wanted to know why I objected to what Chuck did. I told her it was irresponsible journalism, based on anonymous Twitter tips. She kept insisting that the fact that other media are now reporting the Ebola patient’s name shows there was nothing wrong with Chuck did, and saw no difference in the fact that they confirmed with the victim’s family before publishing.

She said the nurse’s family shouldn’t have the right to “dictate the reporting.” I said that’s not what they did; they asked the media to respect her privacy, and most of them did exactly that until the family said it was OK. That’s not “dictating” anything in my view — it’s being responsible and not adding to the hurt of a family.

She was obviously not convinced by what I said.

Why have we been ignoring the news of
Betsy Rothstein, whom Wonkette wants to be when we grow up (no we don’t), leaving FishbowlDC and moving on to Tucker Carlson’s Stormfront By Tucker Carlson? Well, because we didn’t have much to say that wasn’t just “Betsy Rothstein is human garbage” piling-on.

Here’s a Wonkette search page on Ms. Betsy.

I did. Saw a thing on that bird yesterday and it cracked me up. African Greys are amazing mimics, picking things up at a remarkable speed. Though what it reminded me of was a Double Yellow-Head Amazon I rescued back when. Gorgeous bird but just sat there even though most Amazons are quite playful and gregarious. Did everything I could think of for weeks to get a rise out of him. Then one day my husband was channel surfing and landed on a Mexican channel. The bird lost his mind, hollering in Spanish, laughing, and singing. Oh. Now I get it. Placed him with a lovely Spanish speaking family.

What I have learned from Twitter recently:

A huge contingent of people calling themselves “liberals” really need to harden the fuck up. A lot of them are turning into the modern equivalent of the PMRC (keyword: #gamergate — there’s a wretchedly naive bandwagon to jump on) and/or giving the impression that they stand around barefoot, holding hands in a circle, while co-deciding how “the community” should respond to Wendy Davis’ wheelchair ad (which involves chastising Wendy Davis for her “tone and tenor”, while the actual issues get ignored).

The Rule should be something like this: if you are behaving in a way that could be easily satirized by an episode of South Park, you should probably examine that behavior with a critical eye. Strive not to be an absurdity.

Never mind.

Two things people don’t know about cats…

1. What we think of as “bones” in a cat are actually a magnetic alloy that they can control, allowing it to flow like water, or be hard enough to hang from.

2. A cat’s “tail” is actually a separate sentient being that is attached to the cat. Some theorize that the tail is the actual intelligence, and the cat is just a transport mechanism for it. These people are silly.

These facts have been carefully researched and fact checked by the “Chuck C Johnson Research and Verification Team”. Or possibly they are the first drivel that popped into my brain. Same thing.

Happy to. It’s good to see pushback against bloggers who think they’re journalists.

Woah, let’s not get into that debate :) I think there are bloggers who are journalists, and journalists who are bloggers. There isn’t any “license” to be a journalist, so it’s a huge Rorschach test of a profession. But I agree that there are far too many people who use the term who don’t know WTF they are talking about.

Sure, but making shit up as you go along isn’t “journalism” by any stretch of the imagination, and lambasting those who actually do use facts as a defense is just incorrigible.

There are too many of those out there, IMHO.

It’s been a long time since my 9th grade journo class, but I still remember some of the rules—and those types we’re discussing just aren’t using them. To them, opinions, rumors and stuff they just make up operate on the same level as facts and are, in many instances, interchangeable.

On a note re: the Rothstein interview, I’m curious why Charles went ahead with the interview if he knew it would be twisted?

Also, did he record the interview? My approach would be to release the source audio at the same time as the interview was released, so people could judge for themselves whether he was represented accurately.

Just 2 cents.

382 goddamnedfrank  Oct 14, 2014 4:38:27pm
At 3:34 a.m. Pacific time: “I still don’t understand why I’m being suspended.” At 3:35 a.m, Johnson again reached out. “I am an independent journalist who uses Twitter to inform the public,” he wrote. “I have been following all of Twitter’s rules and have been targeting because of the consequences of the information I have revealed. Please reactivate my account.”

The Mirror reached out to Twitter’s Nu Wexler because a) I thought he might be helpful and b) I wanted him to answer a simple question: Why should a reporter get kicked off Twitter for reporting news?

Jesus this lady is a hack. Nowhere in her article outside of Nu Wexler’s quote is the term “home address” ever mentioned. Rothstein just completely glosses over the entire crux of both of CCJ’s suspensions. She and Chuck both know goddamned well that this was what brought the ban hammer down, the repeat, deliberate, flagrant disregard for Twitter’s explicitly defined terms of service.

Note the implicit biased assumption in the question she wanted to ask Nu. It’s a simplistic, total buy in of Chuck’s false premise, the idea that he even could have violated Twitters rules is completely dismissed. This is the absolute opposite of objective reporting, she’s basically retarded 4chan caricature at this point.

Comment I put at the Daily Caller article that might last a minute or two before being deleted…

If you do a quick search you can see that a whole lot of people reported Chuck to @safety, @support, or both yesterday. A lot of those people have nothing to do with the Little Green Footballs site or the “other” Charles Johnson. Besides Chuck has repeatedly claimed on his twitter timeline that he is non-partisan and is not a conservative.

Local reporters knew the name and address of the nurse by Sunday morning they didn’t report it because Journalistic ethics says not to unless there is a reason to do it. Common area of the building had been sterilized, CDC had tracked and notified her contacts, therefore there was no legitimate reason to publish her info.

The only other reason to do so was for peoples morbid and prurient curiosity.

Her information was released only because the family came forward and talked to media, even giving them a picture of the patient to publish. Both Chuck and the author of this article apparently don’t see any reason for using ethics in journalism. They think the only thing that matters is appealing to the basest instincts of their readership “first.”

Cops: 10-year-old boy beats 90-year-old woman to death in bed

newsnet5.com

CLEVELAND - A 10-year-old boy apparently angry that a 90-year-old woman had yelled at him held a cane against her throat and repeatedly punched her, killing her in her bed, prosecutors said.

“The boy was being held without bail Tuesday, charged as an adult with criminal homicide in the death of Helen Novak, a woman who was being cared for by his grandfather.

“His attorney, Bernard Brown, said he would seek to have the boy released into his father’s care at a bail hearing Wednesday.

“Brown said he would also follow up with a request for a competency hearing, saying evidence gathered by prosecutors suggests the boy may have mental health issues. He said those issues could indicate he is not competent to stand trial and also may support the transfer of the case to juvenile court.” More

I’m really looking forward to seeing this. J. K. Simmons is one of my favorite character actors and a couple of friends have said that he absolutely tears this role up and rules this movie.

Your friends are absolutely correct. Not a perfect movie, but Simmons’ performance is perfection.

This year I set 24 sweet potato vines, didn’t get 24 sweet potatoes.

Ouch. Most people don’t realize it, but what passes for “sweet potatoes” in the grocery store are really yams…

A good sweet potato is really hard to find.

Did you at least get enough to make a decent pie? : )

Mostly ‘strings’. This part of AL is in a micro-drought, despite the 4 inches we got dumped on us last night.

Ugh. Well, lay out some collards. Those babies should grow all winter down there. At least you’ll have greens, and they’re a sort of super-food. Some pinto beans and corn bread, and you’re good to go. Add a bit of pork if you’re so inclined. I’m a connoisseur of southern food, esp the meatless kind. : )

Real baked sweet potatoes are the best food on Earth. Except for avocado sandwiches.

Okay, confused. Is this right?

Sweet potato is ipomea batatas, sometimes called yams in the US South. Vines with morning-glory-like flowers.

Yam is an assortment of species of the genus Dioscorea. Some are vines and some are scrubby multi-stalked plants.

Landlord relented and our hummingbird feeders are back up. Yay. They hang under a staircase. My avatar cat lies on said stairs. Boss hummingbird is most displeased actually darting at my cat in an attempt to intimidate. Anyway the one that got away is not my cat thinking about the bird it’s me trying and failing to get that photograph sharp at twilight. Tough one without a lot of luck and damn near portrait studio strobes. .

UPDATE:

481 RealityBasedEbola  Oct 14, 2014 6:45:05pm

Since it seems like a quiet night here on the front, I thought I’d share my Dad’s recipe for seasoned salt. He probably cobbled it together from somebody else, but I really like it.

I’m giving the ‘Generic’ formula, if you make the parts Tablespoons, it make about enough to fill one of those small pizza cheese shakers (that’s what I keep it in). I’m probably going to get a batch of those shakers at the local restaurant supply house, fill them and give them as Christmas gifts.

2 part Kosher Salt
1 part Onion Powder
1 part Dry Mustard
1/4 part Cayenne Pepper
2 parts Paprika (Don’t use smoked, it’s too strong a taste IMHO)
1 part Garlic Powder
1/2 part Black Pepper
1/2 part Oregano finely crushed
1/2 part Thyme finely crushed
1/2 part Basil finely crushed
(or 1 1/2 parts mixed crushed Italian Herb Mix for the herbs)

I use this all the time when I cook, MUCH better than Tony C’s, or anything else I’ve tried.

Enjoy, and as Julia would have said.. Bon Appetit

I’ve made it with it, I love smoked paprika, but in this case, it just dominates it too much. Now if I were doing this expressly for ribs, then I’d think about it, but not for GP.

Again, your mileage may vary. Adjust as you like, it’s not rocket surgery. :)

Yes!!!! there was one in my Dad’s backyard. The blackbirds turf included the door to the storage shed, and about 2 foot past that. My Dad knew exactly where the line was, and would stand down there and just cross from one side of it to the other… drove the BB crazy.

My father also spent 20 years feeding the ducks in the lake. Generations of ducks knew to go his deck and quack to get fed.

Now that he’s in Florida, I’ve told him not to do the same thing with the ‘gators.

Only bad thing about Tony Chacere’s (or most other seasoned salts, for that matter) is there’s too much salt, because salt’s cheap and plentiful and good herbs and spices are not cheap.

re: #486 RealityBasedSteve

The red-winged blackbirds will attack you. When I was kid I was walking down some train tracks in Madison and i thought someone was throwing rocks at my head.

It was the birds, they were dive bombing me and nailing me in the head.

Years later I had the same experience up north a bit, I knew right away what it was. Dicks.

I’m a big fan of sea salt. Also, if you can find them. There’s a bunch of roasted/smoked and dried pepper’s out there to use instead of cayenne.

I like piquin.

That’s basically my rub, ex the thyme (too impactful for a base on my tongue.) Put that on chicken thighs, maybe a bit of brown sugar too and leave little of the skin on, caramelize it. Can’t miss. Almost as good a fried chicken. Almost.
