The Only Confederate Flag We Ever Need to Remember
Today is the 150th anniversary of the Confederacy’s Surrender at Appomattox.
In the spirit of this day, there’s only one Confederate flag that should ever be shown in the United States of America.

Scientology leader spied on father, West Allis reports allege
The Church of Scientology paid a private detective $10,000 per week to spy on its leader’s father, who lived in Whitewater and West Allis after leaving the church about three years ago, according to West Allis police reports.
The intensive surveillance involved placing a GPS tracking unit on Ronald Miscavige Sr.’s car, rummaging through his trash, reading his email over his shoulder at the library and photographing him “wherever he went,” according to the West Allis reports.
The private eye, Dwayne S. Powell, reported to his boss hourly, according to the police reports, which were generated after Powell was arrested by West Allis police in 2013 for lurking suspiciously around the 2400 block of S. 77th St.

It takes a massive amount of pretzel logic to deny that slavery was the root cause of the Civil War.
“States’ rights” is a canard. The Confederates argued that states had the right to decide who was human and who wasn’t, and who could own who. The fact that people refuse to admit this is telling.

What happens next is unclear, because some audio and images from the dashboard camera and six others at the scene are missing or still haven’t been collected by investigators.
Video shows an Orange County sheriff’s deputy throwing Fitzgerald onto the four-lane highway, but there is no audio during that segment due to what has been described as a malfunction.
The footage also partially shows Fitzgerald’s head repeatedly hitting the patrol car’s hood - but the deputy claims Fitzgerald intentionally did that to himself.”

The American Civil War was about slavery.
From the Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union issued on December 24, 1860 by the government of South Carolina:
The same article of the Constitution stipulates also for rendition by the several States of fugitives from justice from the other States.
The General Government, as the common agent, passed laws to carry into effect these stipulations of the States. For many years these laws were executed. But an increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations, and the laws of the General Government have ceased to effect the objects of the Constitution. The States of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa, have enacted laws which either nullify the Acts of Congress or render useless any attempt to execute them. In many of these States the fugitive is discharged from service or labor claimed, and in none of them has the State Government complied with the stipulation made in the Constitution. The State of New Jersey, at an early day, passed a law in conformity with her constitutional obligation; but the current of anti-slavery feeling has led her more recently to enact laws which render inoperative the remedies provided by her own law and by the laws of Congress. In the State of New York even the right of transit for a slave has been denied by her tribunals; and the States of Ohio and Iowa have refused to surrender to justice fugitives charged with murder, and with inciting servile insurrection in the State of Virginia. Thus the constituted compact has been deliberately broken and disregarded by the non-slaveholding States, and the consequence follows that South Carolina is released from her obligation.

and by the use of their power in the Federal Government have striven to deprive us of an equal enjoyment of the common Territories of the Republic.
This is the money quote. The Civil War wasn’t over slavery where it already existed. The original 13th Amendment, passed by both houses, already would have guaranteed that in perpetuity. It was about extension of slavery into the territories.
Particularly, it was about allowing the population of a territory to decide, on petitioning for statehood, whether to be a slave or free state, even if they were south of the Missouri Compromise line. (The infamous Dred Scott decision also included, as a throwaway line, the determination that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional to begin with.) The slave states were all up in arms about “squatter sovereignty” and how they should never be excluded anywhere.
How “squatter sovereignty” (bad) differs from “states rights” (good) has always remained unexplained.

RUNNING WITH RIFLES update. The trick to surviving as a Private seems to be finding cover, figuring out cover sightlines, and setting up crouch and prone as toggles instead of leaving them buttons you have to keep held down. Then you just find an area where the enemy Graycollars or Brownpants (!) tend to cluster and hitting them from prone until you level up. Grenades are a mixed bag and you should use them sparingly until you figure out what’s in range and how they’re likely to bounce off of rocks, trees and walls, since the standard Classic mode punishes you heavily for mass fratricide. Bazookas are doubly dangerous this way, you will slaughter the shit out of your own guys until you figure this out. Also, since the game gives you no reasonable combat tutorial it helps to read this.
After an embarrassing amount of time, and once you make it to Corporal the game gets a lot more interesting, by then you will have figured out just enough about how shit works to stop wondering if you’re actually retarded and nobody told you. I can only imagine that in this way (and this way only) it’s relatively faithful to the real world military experience.

True this: but another angle (which the Slave Power immediately moved to extrapolate from the Dred Scott decision) was that no Federal, State or local law - enforceable by NO Federal, State or local agency whatsoever - could interfere with the “property rights” of chattel slavery anywhere in the entire country - States or Territories. It was seen (by both sides) as a legal means to erase the distinction between “slave states” and “free states”, in effect making ALL the United States “slave states” in some degree. Just another reason to piss people off….

82 | Targetpractice Apr 9, 2015 7:17:18pm |
Well, it’s certainly true that they were in danger of becoming second-class citizens. The reason is because chattel slavery could not hope to compete with industrialization, but there was so much money wrapped up in slaves and plantations that the South couldn’t afford to just end it all. When it began to look like abolitionism, even gradually phased in, would rob them of their “property rights” by freeing all those slaves, the South felt it had no choice but to defend its “way of life.”
Yet, it was that poor level of industrialization and over-reliance on slave labor that proved to be the South’s undoing. It had to rely upon Britain and France for much of the materiel necessary to wage war, and once the Union blockade squeezed down upon Southern ports, the countdown to the defeat of their “cause” began to speed up.

The Economist article has an interesting pov:
“…Religion is a better explanation of southern exceptionalism. The civil war divided most of America’s Protestant sects, says Mark Noll of the University of Notre Dame. Both the Presbyterian and Methodist churches split into northern branches, which opposed slavery, and southern branches, which did not. Even after slavery ended, theological divisions persisted. In the north, which saw mass immigration from all over the world in the decades after the war, Protestant churches had to find some accommodation with Jews, Catholics and, eventually, non-believers.
In the South the share of those born outside America (which was low to begin with) actually fell after the civil war. New migrants moved west or north but rarely south. Because of this, southern churches could hold more traditional views without challenge. Those tented revival meetings that were such a feature of southern Protestantism were not intended to win converts so much as to purify and strengthen beliefs that were already there.”

Not to mention the ideological disarray among Confederates. The Confederate Army started recruiting slaves and freed blacks into their ranks, especially after the sheer butchery at Petersburg. They were recruiting slaves to fight a war to keep them slaves.
And I don’t forget all the anti-Confederate insurrectionist activity up in the mountains up and down all of southern Appalachia, those mountain folk knew that the Confederacy wasn’t hip, where it’s at.

Then nothing would have happened to the cop because it would have been too late and what are you going to do. There would have been protests, which would have become the story rather than the shooting.

Not just in the mountains. Here the swamps provided the necessary buffer from state control. A nearby town held the wartime lynching of a tall southerner who wasn’t confederate enough.
Across the Mississippi line, anti-confederates formed the “State of Jones”.

He’s quite good as an illustrator, but imho like most politically engaged artists his politics is strictly preaching to the choir and imho not that original. As an artist/illustrator meself, I felt the same way about Sue Coe back in the eighties and alas as talented as she is she still paints the same way she did then. No growth. An artists has to grow. It’s a tricky thing, mixing art & politics and how they can date so quickly, though funnily enough my favorite artist is William Hogart, who was all about politics.

The Unlikely Paths of Grant and Lee
The Lost Cause:
…”The traditional or Dunning School of Reconstruction was not just an interpretation of history. It was part of the edifice of the Jim Crow System,” said historian Eric Foner in a recent interview with The Nation. “It was an explanation for and justification of taking the right to vote away from black people on the grounds that they completely abused it during Reconstruction.” It’s hard to overstate Dunning’s influence. President Woodrow Wilson—a virulent white supremacist—held to the Dunning School, as did a generation of the men and women responsible for American mythmaking. Dunning’s narrative was the basis for the novel The Clansman, later adapted into the pathbreaking film The Birth of a Nation—it has all the elements of Lost Cause mythology and history—as well as the novel Gone With the Wind and its film adaptation several decades later. And you can see vestiges of it in our continued fascination with the noble ex-Confederate, sent West in pursuit of life, revenge, or both.”*

One lesson from the War of the Rebellion, which I’ve mentioned before but about which I really think we need to keep reminding ourselves, is how the Confederacy got so many poor white men, who couldn’t afford slaves, to fight for the rich and powerful.
It’s a theme that is repeated today in our politics.
Here’s the formula for getting poor bastards to die for you: create a dynamic where those who really have fewer choices in life are led to believe they would be better off if only ((insert boogeyman here)) would let things alone so the undertrodden, if only they worked and prayed hard enough, will some day “make it”.
Any radical, and remember the abolitionists were radicals if there ever were any in American politics, or progressive movement will always have to face this dynamic if they try to cause change, even if that change is obviously for the better (for most people.)
We saw this after 9/11, where powerful people were able to take the just anger of the victims of the attack and turn it into a war machine to spend trillions of dollars and destroys many lives.
This is hardly novel and not insightful on my part but as we’re now in another Presidential electoral battle one thing we can do is look out for signs of this dynamic being played out, again.

The states’ rights argument is bs anyway. South Carolina was whining because New York wouldn’t honor the fugitive slave act and return escaped slaves.
The whole idea of the United States was basically to use the scientific method for government. Experiment to find out what works, rather than just theorize. States are the laboratories.
“States Rights”, like any doctrine, can be taken to odious extremes, and it has been. But the underlying idea that states should have some sort of say in local government is a sound one.

Letting the South go would have been a disaster. For starters, slavery would have dragged on at least for decades. And then there’s the economic aspect. Imagine toll booths and customs duties up and down the Mississippi. And then there’s the military side of things. Imagine Germany inveigling the Confederacy into WW1 on her side. Not that it would have gone that way, but Germany would have tried for it and might have made it happen.
There are so many downsides to a Confederacy that it’s just stomach churning to think how bad it could have been. Our real-world situation, warts and all, is so very much better than any reasonably likely outcome of a Confederate States that gained its independence, with or without war.

pbs.org7 years, vs. a lifetime, and a lifetime as an animal.

“As demands for labor grew, so did the cost of indentured servants. Many landowners also felt threatened by newly freed servants demand for land. The colonial elite realized the problems of indentured servitude. Landowners turned to African slaves as a more profitable and ever-renewable source of labor and the shift from indentured servants to racial slavery had begun.”

My greatgranda came over from Ireland to Canada and owed “the shipper,” as he called ‘em, a pretty pence. I’ve met many folks from Asia over the years who’ve related the same tale. Same story, different hemisphere.
Good for your greatgranda. What happened next?
In my greatgranda’s case, he assumed a French surname (much easier to get a job in Quebec that way) and worked his arse off. I never met him, he died young, but his son, me grandda told me he was a “straightforward scoundrel.”

Well, I just finished printing off about 300+ pages of technical repair manuals, and of course the EXACT one I need isn’t part of my collection.
I’m going to start rebuilding some scuba regs I got off Ebay for the purpose of learning from. Shop ordered me the parts kits for them at cost. Only problem, 2 of the kits were for the wrong regs. (I KNEW that was going to happen when it was going down….) I’ve got the right kits to get started on the project, I know that it’s going to take a while the first couple of times. (since I’m going to trust these 100 feet down, you bet I’m taking my time). I’m sure that by the time the replacements come in, I’ll be at that point in the project.
Have a good evening. There are reports of scattered penguins and the isolated beaver out there, so take care if you go out.

Born and mainly raised in the south and lived here most of my life, I’ve never seen so many RWNJs mourn this day.
Although if the civil war does come up in some context, people’s “loyalties” do tend to come out, even though I doubt any of them could survive the old sharecropper system these days and they’re probably secretly glad the superior system of the north prevailed and brought the south into modern times and out of agrarian hell. Even though it meant long hours and child labor, the mills were an improvement and offered a steady paycheck as the south eased its way into industrialization and modern times.
I remember these signs, though, because they’re hard to erase from one’s memory and when I began to really question the idea of segregation and someone being considered “lesser” than me and as I got a little older, why fear and contempt for others had infected so many.
Racism really is a disease and poverty and resentment just compound it.
My father’s family was disgustingly racist (from AL); my mother’s was to a lesser degree, a more “genteel” type of racism, but racist nonetheless, and all of it affected me as I tried to grow away from it. Doing so estranged me from family members, esp as I grew more political as an adult and even though there was still a bond with some who still didn’t understand that “tolerance” wasn’t enough, I kept on plodding to get them to understand that we’re all humans with the same needs and desires and we all deserve a good life without the qualifier of race or gender.
Yes, we’ve made progress, but not enough at a fundamental level on either front. How can anyone really feel whole until there is?

Secret Service manager put on leave during probe of alleged assault
“The Secret Service has put a senior supervisor on leave and suspended his security clearance after a female employee accused him of assaulting her after-hours at agency headquarters last week, the agency said Wednesday.
“The D.C. police’s sex-crimes unit and a government inspector general are investigating the female agent’s allegation that Xavier Morales, a manager in the security clearance division, made unwanted sexual advances and grabbed her on the night of March 31 after they returned to the office from a party at a downtown restaurant, according to two law enforcement officials with knowledge of the probe.
“The woman told police and agency investigators that Morales, her boss, told her during the party at Capitol City Brewing Company that he was in love with her and would like to have sex with her, according to two people briefed on her statements. In the office later, she alleged, Morales tried to kiss her and grabbed her arms when she resisted, according to the two people briefed on her complaint. The woman alleged that the two scuffled until Morales relented.” More

There’s a bit of a dustup over at the Times of Israel - someone wrote - and the Times inexplicably published - an op-ed article using the name of a fairly well-known attorney and writer that openly advocated the genocide of Palestinians. Needless to say, he is none too happy about this.
Attorney Responds To Times Of Israel Genocide Post: ‘I Didn’t Write That S**t’
Lawyer and writer Josh Bornstein demanded an explanation from The Times of Israel on Thursday after the site published an op-ed under his name that advocated genocide of Palestinians.
The post, which sparked outrage across social media and was quickly taken down by the site, called Palestinians “cockroaches” and said that Israel should “exterminate them.”
The Times of Israel tweeted that it was “looking into” the post and noted that it did not endorse its content. The article ran under the byline of Bornstein, though several people noted that it looked nothing like anything else he had ever published.
At about 6 p.m.. EDT, Bornstein took to Twitter from his home of Australia to clarify that not only had he not written the “racist” pro-genocide post, but that he had never started an account at the Times in the first place.
“I didn’t write that shit,” he said. He noted he was a “secular atheist,” contrary to the religious tone of the piece. He later added that he suspected the site was hacked.
Bornstein said he wanted an explanation from the Times of Israel.
If you have the stomach, the archive of the piece can be found here, as the original article has been pulled from the Times’ website:

I will warn you, again - it is an extremely vile piece - I have seen the contents before quoted verbatim in anti-Semitic and white nationalist literature.

Pakistan court frees on bail accused mastermind of 2008 Mumbai attack
Wonder how many attacks this guy has plotted from jail? He was granted bail in Dec 2014, of 500,000 rupees, approx $8,023, but his release had been delayed by Indian authorities.
“Lakhvi was first granted bail in December, but was kept in prison by the government under a public security act after a scathing reaction from India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the prospect of Lakhvi walking free came as “a shock to all those who believe in humanity”.
“Yesterday, a court said that government lawyers had failed to provide evidence to justify Lakhvi’s detention, paving the way for his release, even as officials reportedly began a hunt for a new route to keep him in prison.”

Last time I was there, visiting my wife, I was struck by how wide the gap was between those at the low end of the economic spectrum and those at the high end. Along with how low the low was and how high the high was. The endemic racism was disturbing as well.

If the “good” Muslims had the ability to directly shut down the hateful rantings of the “bad” ones simply by properly monitoring blog entries on a widely read Muslim website and didn’t do it, then I’d be bitching at them too.
I can understand a site having a hard time keeping up with ugly comments, but blog posts calling for genocide that are branded with their name are an entirely different matter, If their business model can’t or won’t allow them to fix it and still remain profitable, then it’s time to look into other models.

How is this wealthy trader bastard’s personal “philanthropy” going to affect public pension funds? Yeah, stick it to the unions. Just more of “I’ve got mine, fuck you.” They’ve already decimated and eliminated corporate and other businesses’ dedicated pensions, now this.
Exclusive: Former Enron trader Arnold may launch national PR push to reform pensions
(snip)
Arnold has become the dominant figure funding pension reform efforts in recent years, bankrolling ballot initiatives and groups in 25 jurisdictions that largely sought to cut pension benefits.
Arnold was a trader at Enron, the defunct energy company, before going on to make an estimated $3 billion running Centaurus, a Houston-based natural gas trading hedge fund. In 2012 he turned full-time to running the philanthropic foundation with his wife Laura. Its goals are to improve outcomes for criminal justice, education, public accountability and research integrity.
Arnold and his wife donated to President Obama’s presidential campaigns, and have given significantly more to Democratic political groups than Republican. More

The biggest downside is that the Confederacy couldn’t have lasted long.
Since it was founded on the principle of ‘If I don’ wanna I don’ hafta’ the first time say, Georgia and South Carolina, had a different of opinion and the Confederate government decided for one side, or even tried a compromise, one or both states would walk.
What’s the Confederacy going to do? Send troops to force them back in? Most likely the other Confederate States would have said, “Fuck you,” and walked themselves. That process would have continued down to the county and municipal level.
By the start of the 20th Century the South would have looked like Somalia.

The “economy” may be doing OK, but, wait—most of us aren’t.
Exploding wealth inequality in the United States
“How can we explain the growing disparity in American wealth? The answer is that the combination of higher income inequality alongside a growing disparity in the ability to save for most Americans is fuelling the explosion in wealth inequality. For the bottom 90 percent of families, real wage gains (after factoring in inflation) were very limited over the past three decades, but for their counterparts in the top 1 percent real wages grew fast. In addition, the saving rate of middle class and lower class families collapsed over the same period while it remained substantial at the top. Today, the top 1 percent families save about 35 percent of their income, while bottom 90 percent families save about zero.”
If we don’t get reforms, we’re in for a dystopian future of endless wars, poverty, and misery everywhere, and we’re already seeing plenty of that.
The tenure of George W Bush was just the topping on a trend of decades of nouveau robber barons and their enablers in Congress. I wish people would wake up and demand these reforms, not embrace the past, if we’re to survive.

Wife and a nun-friend hauled me to an ecumenical lecture at her church last night. (The nun had roped in a connected outside speaker and needed to fill seats.) In Q&A a guy asked the lecturer when the ‘good’ Muslims were going to shut down the ‘bad’ Muslims. The priest did a standard bit about diversity and lack of a unified doctrinal voice. Then a Catholic lady in the audience got the mike, spoke about her Iraqi Muslim husband, her son Mohamed, and the Shia/Sunni/ISIS conflict. Did it in 4 minutes in a wicked strong Alabama accent.
Morning folks. It is Friday. Clear skies. Nice 60° temps for the morning. No rain!
DDeb, it sure would be fun if you had a video of that. Hearing her in a heavy southern accent explaining her relations with an Iraqi.
What was the overall reaction? Acceptance, disgust?

YEah no harm in showing up. Webb’s being rumored to run. Not a huge fan of his though I appreciate him since he removed George Allen form the senate.

A couple of days ago, he proposed raising $20,000 to “get” Hillary. I reckon he’s scaled back his expectations since then.
He seldom meets his own deadlines, so let’s see if he can manage his big Clinton reveal on Monday as he’s promised. If it’s as big as the Tsarnaev and Walter Scott reveals, Hillary need not worry.

I really liked him. Got to talk to him one-on-one for a few minutes outside the breakfast. (taking a smoke break has its advantages.) He was really friendly and genuine. Good speaker, too.
Had a similar vibe from O’Malley. At the issues conference, he was actually second banana—Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was the keynote, but O’Malley’s speech was much better than hers.

That idea would fly like a lead balloon in the USA. Even Common Core, which is not a national curriculum per se, gets the wingers up in arms. They want “local control” at the same time as they want to eliminate — or at least gut — the public schools in favor of charter schools, church schools and homeschools. I actually and this is weird given my aversion to standardized testing but I kind of like the idea of a national curriculum especially in regards to the sciences and mathematics- with literature and history I favor some variation since we have differing regional histories and literature though of course grammar is something that should fall in with the above. The way I figure, our students are going to be applying for the same universities throughout the nation. But yes there is the American obsession that local control is best which sounds great almost until you realize how nutso some local school boards are and are filled with people like the one board member who said he wished LGBT students would kill themselves.

You know what I find more interesting - whether the officer had other excessive force incidents, and how the department handles those excessive force incidents involving him and others, and whether there is adequate oversight to make sure that officers are acting appropriately.
While the PD has been more forthright in this case, and have already taken steps to protect itself from further lawsuits (namely firing the officer involved, being more open with media to inquiries, etc.), the Department’s actions deserve far more scrutiny than a man whose only offense for reason of the MV stop was a busted tail light. That Scott ran should not have been a death sentence.
But that remains a problem with police nationally. They jump the gun on using deadly force, and their handling of mentally ill people is especially bad.
Blacks are disproportionately involved in excessive force incidents, especially deadly force incidents.
Mentally ill are also disproportionately involved in excessive force incidents, especially deadly force incidents.
If you’re black and suffer from mental illness, these kinds of incidents have a particularly deadly outcome.
This all has to change, and it will take more than simply firing or prosecuting officers who shoot and kill. It means new and improved training, changing law and policy on use of deadly force, and all with an eye towards not only officer safety (which until now trumps all else), but towards public safety and minimizing use of deadly force.

So with it being Autism Awareness month. I find myself looking at the two camps that exist in the community. Those who want a cure and more research into Autism and those who resist any research at all since they see it as a threat. Honestly, while I do think some parents of autistic children do try to portray Autism as some kind of curse or burden for them and their children, I favor more research for a couple of simple reasons. One, I think it will do us a lot of good to understand how autism works and why it happens. Secondly, and this goes with reason one but more understanding will perhaps make life a little more bearable for us on the spectrum and people will see people with Autism not as freaks but as people. I am not huge on Autism Speaks from what I know about that group but I don’t like the other side of the coin that acts like research and a cure would be a terrible thing either.A facebook friend posted this yesterday.

I truly didn’t know “neurodiversity” was a thing. Why wouldn’t you want a medical and/or psychological treatment for that?
Well I can’t speak for them but I think a lot of them see their different neurodiversity as a source for their unique identity and that’s something I empathize with but at the same time, I’d love to be able to do things like make eye contact without thinking about it or the other “normal” things but at the same time, my obsessions do drive me in a way. I want more research overall because I think it’s important we understand.

If there is one thing, I wish more people realized about being on the spectrum is we’re like the rest of you: not all brilliant savants with an encyclopedic knowledge or the other side of it. I’d like to see a show or film portray a spectrum character realistically in the sense that they show that we too struggle finding the right job for us, love, and feel pain.

Right and I think a lot of the people who oppose research into cures don’t empathize with people like you and your son given that we (the HFAs) can at least express ourselves.
Exactly. As an Old, I didn’t know that I was HFA until I started looking into autism on behalf of our son. I suspect that the causes of autism are so deep in the way that our brains work that a cure is improbable. I do hope that combinations of medication and therapy can be found that will enable autistics to become more comfortable and functional in society.

I think you’re right about the cure. And I definitely agree I hope research can allow for medication and therapy that can make life more comfortable and easier to function. One of the most troubling things to me about people on the spectrum is how we struggle with employment. It’s been a struggle for long term employment my whole adult life. I haven’t gotten fired for positions or anything like that but I’ve had a hard time getting hired in the first place which would otherwise allow me to beef up my resume. I think HFAs are often going to be underemployed too. I’ve had nothing but internships since my college graduation and I graduated with honors.

Yes, I get that. I’ve always had trouble with eye contact w/strangers, but I think that’s a defense for me.
I’m not autistic, but was a shy, introverted child with few social skills and as a very young teen was so fearful of my dad that my hands shook, as was my sister. We also moved around a lot. I never took any kids to our home and my sister may have brought 1 or 2 over the years (some of that was embarrassment at our living situation and disapproval by our dad). We didn’t even think it very unusual because, being kids, we thought everyone lived that way. I think you used to see a lot more kids like that, since today’s kids seem a lot more social and confident—or maybe I don’t get out much. : )

Right. I used to be a lot more shyer than I am. My parents and one brother will always remember that I was so nervous about ringing the doorbell of my best friend’s house that he had to do it for me. I also was petrified of calling people on the phone. Hell, I still do get a little nervous about that but that’s mostly for customer service stuff or for following up job applications.

Hannity guest walks out after conservative pundit says blacks are too angry about Walter Scott shooting http://t.co/oMJf8fuTCh— Kragar (@Kragar_LGF) April 10, 2015
Terrell gave Hannity “kudos” for his viewpoint on the shooting, which resulted in first-degree murder charges for Officer Michael Slager.
“You and I are in agreement for the second time in the history of Fox News cable,” Terrell said. “It is against the law for any officer to shoot an unarmed black man or any man in the back.”
Peterson tried to interject, and Terrell told him to “quiet down” before standing up, taking off his earpiece and microphone, and walking out of the studio where he was recording his TV appearance.
“Let me ask for your support, let me ask for your support,” Peterson said feebly as Terrell walks out of the camera frame.
The conservative pundit begins a lengthy and uninterrupted explanation of his work with families in South Central Los Angeles, where he said gang members were “openly robbing” homes but community members were too afraid to call the police.
“It’s too bad Leo’s a little coward,” Peterson said, “but I want Leo to go into the inner cities with me with cameras, and let’s take pictures of (those) thugs.”

I played the hell out of Sims 2. I even downloaded a genie lamp that would allow me to pretty much cheat at will. I could use it to refill a Sim’s needs, make another Sim fall in love with me, take annoying Sims and make them poop themselves so they’d leave, etc. It was awesome.
I haven’t played in ages. I’d have to buy a whole new computer for the newer games, and I’m just not all that enthused by the idea. I spend 8+ hours a day in front of a computer at work. At home, I’d rather just watch Netflix or read on my Kindle Fire.

A fake @RandPaul quote is circulating: http://t.co/7VY4EHzOK2 pic.twitter.com/y4yTNPbnV2
These analogies are often a big hit (X = Holocaust), when in fact it isn’t a Holocaust, nor is it genocide or war crimes we’re talking about.
So, unless you’re referring to something even approaching a genocide or democide, war crimes, and the purposeful targeting of people with discrimination for their beliefs by limiting their rights to conduct business (and no, being forced to bake a cake for gay customers isn’t discriminating against your beliefs - you bake a cake as your profession, so they’re not telling you to do something that you wouldn’t do otherwise - like say forcing a Jewish kosher deli to serve you BLTs or put cheese on a deli sandwich), you’re actually demeaning those who suffered from the real Holocaust or similar events (pick your genocide/war crimes accordingly).
All these bogus analogies do is undermine the very meaning of the word Holocaust and diminishes the memory of what this word represents.
It’s an attempt to coopt a word with a very specific meaning - and that’s why it’s repeatedly used out of context.

This is the saddest thing I’ve seen in a long time:
Kayleb Moon-Robinson — who is diagnosed as autistic — had barely started sixth grade last fall in Lynchburg, Virginia, when a school resource officer filed charges against him. Kayleb was charged with disorderly conduct for kicking over a trash can and then with felony assault on a police officer because he struggled to break free when the cop grabbed him…
a Lynchburg juvenile court judge found Kayleb guilty of all those charges in early April…
Doss (the little boy’s mother) said the judge had a deputy show him a cell, and told him if he gets into trouble again he could go straight to youth detention.
“He said that Kayleb had been handled with kid gloves. And that he understood that Kayleb had special needs, but that he needed to ‘man up,’ that he needed to behave better,” Doss said. “And that he needed to start controlling himself or that eventually they would start controlling him.”

the Marshall County Board, outside of Peoria, is really not in the mood to spend $76,000 to cover the costs of the special election party they have to throw, now that their baby-faced Instagram cover model boy had to resign from Congress, for being too much like Abraham Lincoln. Or maybe he resigned because he’s a criminal:
In a vein somewhat similar to a collection letter, the board offers Schock options of sending either the full amount or an agreement stating that he will pay later.

re: #417 Blind Frog Belly White
When my wife first started on antidepressant meds, some of her friends told her they were afraid that they would change her. She said, “I sure hope so!”
Her friends didn’t have to live in her head, with the anxiety and depression that she’s always excelled at not showing.
I just tried an experiment with my meds. I take Effexor and Celexa as antidepressants (they don’t work well for that) and in order to deal with anger. I’m tired of them making me tired and unmotivated so I stopped taking them a week ago. I’m now more motivated, but I’m also quicker to anger and far more likely to act on that anger. I’ve restarted my Celexa because it’s just an SSRI where Effexor is an SNRI, to see what effects it has on my motivation and/or anger.
I find that even though I am well aware of my anger, without the meds I respond to events that shouldn’t cause anger with anger & that acting on the anger means people & pets around me are possibly in danger.
I won’t hit members of my family, but if you aren’t in my family, look out.
Next up is to drop the Celexa and restart Effexor to see if the anger is reduced and the motivation/energy stays high. If I can’t get away from the anger without feeling lethargic and tired, I’m not sure what to do.
Go kill a punching bag every day perhaps.
