Donald Trump Is Raging at Hugh Hewitt’s “Gotcha Questions”

Hewitt inadvertently outs Trump as an ignoramus
• Views: 54,298

Donald Trump is probably the most thin-skinned person ever to run for President of the US, and today he’s seething with rage at… conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt. Yep, really.

If you listen to the excerpt from Hewitt’s show above, you’ll see why; Trump comes off as a total ignoramus on Middle East policy. He doesn’t even know the difference between Hamas and Hezbollah, and when Hewitt asks him a question about the Quds Force, a contingent of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards that’s been operating in Syria, Trump launches into some talking points about the Kurds — after insisting he was familiar with the leader of the Quds Force, Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

It’s an amazingly pathetic performance, ending with Trump telling Hewitt that by the time he’s elected President, “I’ll know more about it than you will ever know,” saying “the names you just mentioned, they probably won’t even be there in six months or a year,” and accusing Hewitt of asking “gotcha questions.”

By the way, Hassan Nasrallah, one of the names Hewitt mentioned, has been leader of Hezbollah for about 23 years now, and it’s a pretty sure bet he’ll still be there in “six months or a year.”

And today, Donald Trump went on Morning Joe and called Hewitt a “third-rate radio announcer.” His massive ego suffered a real blow, and now he’s lashing out — even though Hewitt could not possibly have been more deferential to him, despite his obvious ignorance.

This is turning into a real gladiator show; The Donald is ripping the conservative movement apart. But the right wing base still loves this boorish, nasty racist cretin.

Trump couldn’t be doing a better job of undermining the GOP if he was a Clinton plant.

I was about to say that if Trump really is, as some wingnuts have suggested, a Clinton plant, then he is performing beyond the DNC’s wildest dreams.

Donald bullshits his way through every policy question with these canned talking points:

I AM RICH!!! I AM RICHER THAN ALL OF YOU!!!
YOU’RE A LOSER!!
YOU’RE A DUMMY!!!
YOU’RE OVERRATED!!!!!
I HAVE BUILT SKYSCRAPERS!!!!
I OWN MORE PROPERTY THAN YOU EVER WILL!!11!!!

yes, but he’s a visionary ignoramus, who’s bold and decisive!!!!!! and has about the same level of comprehension on how the government functions as he does about foreign policy and immigration. Hence why he resonates so well with his supporters.

Trump just had a Herman Cain “Ubeki-beki-beki-stan-stan” moment and Palin’s inability to name a SCOTUS ruling all wrapped into one. But, the librul media continues to fawn all over him.

Nothing cements Trump’s cretinhood like knowing he would be four times wealthier today if he had just stuck his money in an index fund in 1982 instead of playing a wheeler-dealer.

It’s not the Gotcha questions that bother me the most about Trump, it’s the statements about things that he has had months to think about. Immigration. Abortion. Gay Marriage. And his belligerent attitude. I fellow politics and had no idea who the leader of Hezbollah is, but I would be such an ass in answering the question.

It was just a matter of time before they started eating their own. Hewitt will crawl and beg to get back in Trump’s good graces again. No one wants to suffer the fate of Megyn Kelly. It’s an effective strategy, go on other shows, have press conferences, and call them names, talk about how stooopid they are and how smart and wealthy you are. They are losers. You are a winner. End of story. Don’t ask for particulars or you will be banished too. The press are great lapdogs. They learn fast.

Daniel Larison, as usual, has the perfect take on this.

As annoyed with Hewitt as Trump might have been by the end, the important thing to remember is that Hewitt indulged and played along with Trump’s ridiculous answers on foreign policy most of the time. In some cases, he endorsed and affirmed those answers despite the fact that they were nonsense. Far from being the “gotcha” interview that Trump whined about, it allowed Trump to dominate the conversation. The fact that Trump still came across sounding ignorant and unqualified is that much more damning.

I can honestly say that, in the weeks that this nothingburger has sat on the grill, I’ve never heard anybody bring this point up:

IGNATIUS: This issue comes up surprisingly often because there is an administrative problem where people do these things and their security officers summon them and warn them and issue reprimands and it goes in their file and it’s a serious personnel administrative problem. My only point is I couldn’t find a case where this kind of activity had been prosecuted and that’s just worth noting as we assemble our Clinton e-mail - and more thing, Joe, legally there is no difference between her using her private server and if she’d used state.gov, which is also not a classified system. The idea that, oh this would have been fine if she used state.gov, not legally, no difference.

Matt Taibbi:
The GOP Is Now Officially the Party of Dumb White People

“…all that money the Republican kingmakers funneled into Fox and Clear Channel over the years, making sure that their voters stayed focused on ACORN and immigrant-transmitted measles and the New Black Panthers (has anyone ever actually seen a New Black Panther? Ever?) instead of, say, the complete disappearance of the manufacturing sector or the mass theft of their retirement income, all of that’s now backing up on them.

The party worked the cattle in their pen into such a dither that now they won’t rest until they get the giant wall that real-life, as-seen-on-TV billionaire Donald Trump promises will save them from all those measles-infected rapists pouring over the border.”

thedopefishlives  Sep 4, 2015 • 11:51:47am

On a similar topic, I heard from my wingnut FB friend who was instigating the big Kim Davis argument about what he would want to see in his non-theocracy theocracy. The highlights:

* Banning abortion and in-vitro fertilization;
* Enforcing marriage as one man and one woman;
* Mandating that all laws and legal decisions must be “filtered through a judeo-christian framework”, whatever that means.

The rest of us were all rather amused at the mental gymnastics it must take for him not to realize that he’s a theocrat.

Trump’s word salad-like and incoherent non-answers are on par with Sarah Palin’s during the 2008 election. Dare I say the sexism is the reason why Trump isn’t getting crucified in the media like Palin was?

I think sexism is part of the reason for this difference. Another important part of the difference is that Trump is very wealthy, and the US conservative movement has been saturated with propaganda for decades to the effect that the ultra-wealthy are better than everyone else.

Even when GOP apparatchiks try to fight back against Trump, it’s pretty clear they are fighting their own instincts to cringe and scrape before their better.

Your client doesn’t want to do the job that she swore an oath to do. Now if SSM bothers her as much as you claim it does then she can resign or remain in jail but she cannot keep her job and continue to deny marriage licenses. Stop acting like your client deserves special rights since she’s an evangelical bigot hypocrite like you all are.

One thing that struck me about Davis’ claim that she’s been ‘Saved’ so now her adultery and multiple marriages don’t count - if that were true, would’t it require her to either return to her first husband, or live a life of celibacy? Wouldn’t her marriage to Husband 2=4 be voided, and thus to continue marital relations would be adultery?

Forgiveness is not a reset button. It’s supposed to require repentance. At least that’s what I was taught.

Oh, Carly was sooo much better than Trump in her interview with HH. //

CF: Thank you, Hugh. Always good to be with you.

HH: Now, again, you have no idea what I asked Donald. There’s been social media on it, so let me just begin where I began with him.

CF: Just for the record, Hugh, I never know what you’re going to ask me.

HH: (laughs) That’s true. I just don’t do that with people. But aren’t you familiar with General Soleimani?

CF: Yes…

HH: What do you know about him?

CF: Well, why don’t you tell me why you’re asking because I could go a lot of different directions here, but what’s the issue you’re trying to get at?

(lame attempt at fumble recovery)

HH: Now there are a lot of dangerous terrorist leaders in the world. There’s Hassan Nasrallah, there’s Al-Zawahiri. There’s al-Julani. There’s Abu-bakar al-Baghdadi. There’s al-Asiri. There’s al-Masri. Do you most of these without a scorecard, Carly Fiorina?

CF: Well, I have to be very honest with you and say that sometimes I can get confused a bit between the name and group because they sound a bit alike sometimes, so I have to pause and think sometimes. But, I certainly know all those names both of the individual leaders and of the terrorist groups. I certainly understand where these terrorists are in play. I certainly understand that one of the most dangerous things that is going on right now is competition among these leaders and among their terrorist groups. So on the one hand, we see organizations like Boko-Haram pledging allegiance to ISIS - in other words - joining forces and conducting horrific acts on behalf of ISIS. But on the other hand, we see competition among these groups, so Al-Qaeda and ISIS are competing now. Al-Nusra is competing. That’s also dangerous because the way these terrorist groups compete is by one-upping each other in the horrific nature of the violence that they conduct.

OK, yes this is marginally better, but she is also bullshitting her way through the interview. She has talking points, she doe not have deep FP knowledge. Not what a Presidential candidate should sound like.

This is getting uglier by the hour. The Christianists and their evil leaders, Cruz, Hannity, Limbaugh etc. have them whipped into a violent frenzy of ignorance and lies. They have millions of guns, and mistakenly believe they can use them to enforce their will.

If you live in a wingnut occupied zone, ie one where local officials are sympathetic to the Christian fascists, the federal authorities will be the only ones you can count on. It may take them time to respond, especially if there is a mass uprising by theocrats. Whenever I raise this possibility, various naysayers like to point out that the wingnuts lack the organization for this and that my fears are exaggerated, if not paranoid. In fact, renegade local officials and, more importantly, the many crazed fundamentalist churches can provide a sufficient degree of ad hoc organization. If you find this hard to believe, just come to Texas and visit a few fundy churches some weekend. It will open your eyes.

Arming yourselves will not make you “just like them.” Your purpose in being armed, self defense against vigilantes and assassins, is lawful and achievable while theirs, a civil war against the federal authorities and the simultaneous massacre of “others,” are not. If you do get a gun, for God’s sake practice with it and know the law.

The question is, which presents a greater danger to me: rampaging wingnuts or having a gun in the house?

Don’t misunderstand, I understand how to responsibly handle weapons and used to hunt rabbits and squirrels with my grandfather. But I also understand that even trained, careful people have gun accidents; it’s too easy to become casual or too comfortable handling weapons and to stop treating them with the respect/caution they deserve.

I’d be willing to accept that risk if I really thought there was imminent danger. But frankly I don’t see any danger of a mass uprising. I’m more worried about the individuals wackos who might act on the hate overflow. Not sure how a gun in the house will help with that.

Here is how its easily resolved. All Kim Davis has to do to stay out of jail is absolutely nothing. KRS 402.100(1)(c) authorizes her deputy clerks to issue marriage licenses. As long as she doesn’t interfere with her deputy clerks doing their jobs, she doesn’t even have to look at a same-sex marriage license, much less sign one.

The hot thing in Republican politics right now is Trumpism, a political style that eschews policy for forcefulness and authenticity.* Cruz has been friendly to Trump, but he’s also the only other candidate who can ape Trumpism with any real feeling. He was doing a version of it long before Trump started running. He’s a very smart man, and a man who wants to be thought of as smart, but he has no compunction about saying things that he probably does not truly believe, i.e., that a Supreme Court decision can be “illegal, unconstitutional, illegitimate.”

The amazing thing is, Hewitt has made foreign policy, and the Mid East in particular, the focus of his show for the better part of a decade (if not more). To not know that there was going to be these kinds of questions is just an epic level of fail. Even if Trump didn’t know this would be the line of questions, someone on his staff should have known. This means one of three things: Trump is an idiot (obviously), his staff is made up of idiots, or he doesn’t listen to his staff. None of those are traits you want in a president

NY Daily News: Donald Trump security guard hits protester in face after taking banner (Updated 3:04 PM ET)

A top security guard for Donald Trump smacked a protester in the face after the man chased him for snatching a banner Thursday, video shows.

The guard grabbed the blue sign that said “Trump: Make America Racist Again” — a play on the billionaire’s campaign motto — outside a press conference on the Donald’s new pledge of loyalty to the Republican Party, NY1 Noticias video shows.

Demonstrator Efrain Galicia ran after Schiller and appeared to reach for the banner and grab the guard from behind. Within seconds, the guard turned around and whacked him in the face with an open hand as a scrum of reporters snapped photos. […]

The fourth thing that it could mean is that Trump knows that the GOP base doesn’t give a flying fuck about reality - let alone the details of who’s fighting whom (They’re all Muslims anyway) in the ME as long as we promise to bomb the hell out of somebody.

No one in this world, so far as I know - and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me - has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people.

I have to admit…it was pretty generous for Trump to call Hewitt THIRD rate.

He and his alliterative cousin Lars Larson are truly the bottom rung of national right wing media. The fact that CNN is putting this stuffed shirt on TV to moderate the next debate is mind bending.

And as hilarious as it is to hear Trump prove what a fuckwit he is, I hate the fact that he handed Hewitt a cookie like this.

“I’ve got an idea. I have an idea forming in my head…”

Use Guantanamo Bay as a launch site. Roll it into a package of continued normalization of relations with Cuba and sorting out the Guantanamo lease situation. Close down the detention center (for reals this time) and bulldoze it for NASA. Maybe share the location with ESA and Roscosmos and split the costs.

It’s closer to the equator, and afaik the area that the GTMO detention center is not a marsh close to sea level like the military base is.

I thought that rung was owned by Levin?

Not at all…he is absolutely insane, but for whatever reason he has a significant national profile and inhabits revenue generating spots on the radio dial (replacing Hannity on WLS in Chicago, for example).

Hewitt and Larson are almost totally limited to weak or daytime only signals at the upper end of the dial, or weekend nights on real stations.

Edit: Oops..I was actually thinking about Savage! Levin is indeed close to the bottom rung, but he does actually sell some books and still enjoys better radio real estate than Hewitt or Larson. While he is correct LESS often than a stopped clock, he has more education than virtually any other right wing talking head…admittedly not a high bar.

If you’ve ever listened to Hugh Hewitt, you should see that there is probably no greater GOP cheerleader than him. And while he will sometimes ask hard questions of Republican politicians and candidates, his tone is practically apologetic, as if he’s sorry he has to ask a difficult question of someone seeking an important public office. Only Sean Hannity treats Republicans and conservatives with greater deference. So if Trump is accusing Hewitt of asking “gotcha” questions…well…all I can say is…WOW!

re: #95 thedopefishlives

On a similar topic, I heard from my wingnut FB friend who was instigating the big Kim Davis argument about what he would want to see in his non-theocracy theocracy. The highlights:

* Banning abortion and in-vitro fertilization;
* Enforcing marriage as one man and one woman;
* Mandating that all laws and legal decisions must be “filtered through a judeo-christian framework”, whatever that means.

The rest of us were all rather amused at the mental gymnastics it must take for him not to realize that he’s a theocrat.

IOW, church trials.

Fuck that.

I wonder … has CCJ been the recipient of what we used to call “The Come to Jesus” phone call from his attorney? The one where we sit the client down (figuratively or literally), and patiently explain to them that no matter how butthurt they are, no matter how convinced they are of the righteousness of their cause, the law just ain’t on their side, no judge nor jury will EVER rule in their favor, and from this moment on, the options narrow down to 1) total cornholing or 2) total cornholing with a side of bankruptcy and perhaps some jailtime sauce.

That might explain the massive preschooler petulance on display?

Any news yet on what’s up with the SLAPP suit and Gawker? ‘Cause there’s a serious fucking meanstreak over at Gawker, and if they get a chance, they are going to bend Chucky over and give it to him like a prison bitch.
