Death Threats to Abortion Providers Soar After Bogus Planned Parenthood Videos

And these are people already proven to be prone to violence
US News • Views: 55,158

It should come as no surprise that the deceptively edited “sting” videos attacking Planned Parenthood have provoked the more extreme elements of the religious right into murderous rage: Death Threats on Abortion Providers Spike in Wake of Planned Parenthood Videos.

In July, shortly after an anti-abortion group aired an undercover video of a top Planned Parenthood doctor discussing the donation of fetal tissue after abortions, an individual using the name “Joseywhales” posted an ominous warning on Fox Nation.

“I’ll pay ten large to whomever kills Dr. Deborah Nucatola,” the person wrote, referring to the senior director of Planned Parenthood who was filmed in the video. “Anyone. Go for it.”

The same person went on to threaten Cate Dyer, the CEO of StemExpress, a biomedicine company that procures fetal tissue for medical research.

“The CEO of StemExpress should be hung by the neck using piano wire and propped up on the lawn in front of the building with a note attached,” Joseywhales wrote, according to a legal complaint filed by the National Abortion Federation in a California district court.

The person then posted Dyer’s home address and offered “ten grand to whomever beats me” to her house, warning that Dyer “must die to save the innocents.”

According to abortion rights advocates, Joseywhales’ post is just one example of an alarming spike in death threats and violent acts against abortion providers, clinics and companies that work with them since the undercover videos of Planned Parenthood were released. Two Planned Parenthood clinics have reported arsons, anti-abortion protesters are showing up in large numbers at doctors’ homes, and commenters on conservative websites and online forums are calling for the bombings of abortion clinics across the country, according to Vicki Saporta, president of the National Abortion Federation. Saporta is so alarmed by the escalation of threats against providers that she asked the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigations to intervene.

“In my 20 years at NAF, I have never seen such a volume, intensity and escalation of hate speech, threats and criminal activity, and we would like to prevent a serious violent act from occurring,” she told The Huffington Post in an interview. “We have enlisted law enforcement’s help.”

Speaking of foreign relations (How’s that for a segue?) I tuned in NPR on the car radio this morning and they had a person who was bemoaning the small number of Syrian refugees taken in by the US. Fair enough except that for all of the detailed information she delivered about our remissness in this situation she, as well as the host, forgot to mention all of the ME nations that have refused to take in a single refugee.

One of the many reasons that I make sure to listen to NPR for at least four minutes once a month.

The notion that Davis is a victim of selective enforcement is one of their faves now. She put herself right in the way of that contempt citation. The court didn’t single her out from the masses of county clerks who refused to carry out their oaths. She was given the choice to either do the job she was sworn to do or gracefully step down for reasons of conscience. She chose to do neither of those and instead defy the law.

IOW, she knowingly and willfully jumped in front of a bus so that somehow makes her a victim.

Attacks on Planned Parenthood Part of a Campaign to Harass Legal Abortion Providers

Mostly lost in the intense focus on the brutally dishonest attacks on Planned Parenthood’s practices regarding tissue donation is that, just as much as these videos are part of a highly orchestrated campaign to discredit Planned Parenthood and ultimately undermine legal and safe abortion, they are also part of an ongoing campaign to target and harass individual abortion providers and others connected with the safe and legal provision of abortion care.

And these strikes are hardly an isolated strategy. As our new book, Living in the Crosshairs: The Untold Stories of Anti-Abortion Terrorism, covers in detail, abortion providers and clinic staff around the country can be the subject of unrelenting personal attacks by anti-abortion extremists. These personal attacks can have serious effects on abortion providers’ lives.

It’s also a point of fact that the other 2 KY clerks who say they will not issue licenses to SS couples have not been legally cited as yet since no couples have requested licenses. They have not broken the law like Davis did. So much for the argument that christians are being persecuted and jailed because of their beliefs. If so, those others would be in jail with Kimmy.

I guess boldly stating to a judge, that you as a public official, will not perform your duties, as prescribed by the law, is tyranny.

I guess it’s strange that we cultivate this kind of rank idiocy within our ranks in that these people only recognize one legitimacy… namely with themselves in charge. Anything else is simply unacceptable…

Same shit here with the planned parenthood, they cannot accept anyone else’s idea of how to live their life, no matter the circumstances or cause, it comes down to they get to be the arbiters of the way other folks live their lives.

It’s also total bullshit. The federal courts have blocked enforcement of Obama’s executive order on immigration. You don’t see him defying that and trying to implement it anyway. Sanctuary cities also are not breaking the law, since there’s nothing requiring them to investigate or enforce federal rules on immigration. All they’re doing is using their own discretionary authority to prioritize the use of the limited law enforcement funds available to them. If a court ordered those cities to actively investigate immigration violations they would.

Oh, Arrrrrizona:

In the broadcast, Ms. Ruiz said, “Some of you have noticed that I pronounce a couple of things maybe a little bit differently than what you are used to, and I get that, and maybe even tonight you saw a little bit of it.

“I was lucky enough to grow up speaking two languages, and I have lived in other cities, in the U.S., South America, and Europe,” she continued. “So yes, I do like to pronounce certain things the way they are meant to be pronounced. [Emphasis added.] And I know that change can be difficult, but it’s normal and over time I know that everything falls into place.”

[…]

The United States has more than 55 million Hispanics and, according to the 2011 American Community Survey, 38 million residents age 5 and older who speak Spanish at home. But questions about the use of Spanish persist.

In Arizona, where the Hispanic population is at 30 percent and is growing, the conversation about language has included questions over the English fluency of candidates for public office. It has surfaced regularly in schools, notably in a state law banning, with some exceptions, bilingual education.

This is by design. They know they stand little chance of getting Roe V Wade repealed or to outright make abortion illegal. So they do this shit. And worse.

For some fucking reason, any time these assholes can’t win they bully and cheat. From voting rights to reproductive health(including murdering doctors and blowing up clinics), gerrymandering districts, making edited videos designed to ruin lives, the list is endless with these people. If they were so very right it would be so easy for them to have the manly theocracy of their dreams. But no one likes assholes, not really, surprise! So their shit isn’t popular and they have to resort to horrible shit designed to interfere with legal procedures and wear people down and make life even more difficult for everyone.

This shit has to stop. I say use their own shit on them. Take down THEIR license plate numbers, harass them at work, make internet sites about them. Film them (without editing, there’s really no need, they’re heinous enough on their own) secretly, tear their organizations apart. Catch their leaders doing shady, sneaky, dishonest shit. You don’t always have to get dirty to fight dirty. Fuck these people. They view all of us as their enemy, how much longer are we just supposed to let this continue? They’re breaking the country apart.

Don’t forget, she is fighting for the right to close her office’s doors to homosexual couples. Pursuant to KRS 402.100(1)(c), she doesn’t have to do anything; her deputy clerks can sign the marriage license forms. I hope we don’t go back to the days when it was real open season on abortion providers. In 1994, there were four people killed by gunmen. Paul Hill killed a doctor and his bodyguard in Pensacola on July 29, while John Salvi shot two women in two clinics in Massachusetts on December 30.

Earlier this year, I was in Pensacola volunteering on a documentary about young earth creationist Kent Hovind’s legal travails. I had just flown into Pensacola, picked up my rental car and was driving along, when I came to a T intersection, and there, in a tree, facing the intersection, was a handpainted sign, red on white, saying: “ABORTION IS MURDER.” Knowing about Paul Hill, I felt a real unease. You’d think after that people would have learned, but I guess not. I’ve lived in rather conservative places (Utah and Arizona) over the last 20 years, but I’d never seen a sign like that.

However, I honestly do think there is an effort to stir up trouble. The country is awash in guns and there are a lot of hotheads out there. I hope people are taking adequate precautions.

Exactly, and there’s a workaround for this if the GOP congress ever wants to force the issue. Just make federal grant funds contingent on municipalities enforcing immigration law. This is how the 55 mph speed limit was made national in 1974, States that didn’t enforce it weren’t eligible for fed highway funds.

Of course they’d have to make the corresponding grants enormous, because enforcing immigration law would cost cities millions in both law enforcement costs and the lost tax income from the residents forced out.

Funny, I happened to read a monograph on that very subject a few weeks ago. You’re right; there are documented complaints from colonial New England, including many from indentured servants, about the monotony of eating lobster day in and day out. At the time, only servants and the poor (overlapping categories) regularly ate lobster.

Brandon Darby sounds like a sociopath.

According to the FBI’s documents, Darby, posing as an activist, had been covertly gathering information for the FBI since at least February 2007, twelve months before he ever met Crowder or McKay or knew of any plans for the RNC. “As an older seasoned activist, Darby had a lot of sway over Crowder and McKay, making them susceptible to his often militant rhetoric,” said Gabby Hicks, who was in St. Paul with Darby during the Convention. “He was always the one to suggest violence, when the rest of us clearly disagreed with those strategies.”

Darby has been characterized by many people who have known and worked with him as both persuasive and manipulative, with a history of provocation, instigation, and incitement. According to Lisa Fithian, who worked with Darby for years, “Brandon was always provoking discord and aggression, in the anti-war movement in Austin in 2003, in protests in Houston against Halliburton, and in disaster relief at Common Ground in New Orleans. I worked with Darby in all of those places and saw the disruption he caused.”

Your comment makes me think that their insistence that CSA heroes be honored on public ground is of a piece with similar insistence that some have a right to impose their religious beliefs on others.

I’d think that if they felt that strongly about appropriately venerating those rebels then they would have already ponied up the money for privately owned land rather than relying on the largess of the government for space.

Maddies Mom  Sep 4, 2015 • 4:02:41pm

So, with the news of MSNBC planning to extend Morning Joe another hour, plus various other bad decisions through the years. I penned a little missive to one phil.griffin@nbcuni.com, and it goes like this…

(sigh) Mr. Griffin, Mr. Griffin, it’s come to my attention that you’re planning on “re-arranging the furniture” at the cable channel known as MSNBC. As it stands now, I force myself to stay in bed until 8a.m. CT so that I can avoid every minute of the insufferable Morning Joe & crew. Now I hear you’d like to expand that another hour. However, rather than staying in bed longer, I’ll just stop turning the dial to MSNBC at all until the evening hours when I can get intelligent, and yes, liberal views of the news of the day. You’ve removed, or are planning on removing, almost all of your brightest stars like Keith Olberman & Martin Beshear to name a few. You’re removing almost all people of color and people who discuss the issues seriously, not simply treating elections like commentary of a sporting event. Specifically, the insufferable Chuck Todd, and the insufferable Steve Kornaki et al. I use the word “insufferable” because I will no longer “suffer” through watching. It’s too bad, too, you’re losing myself and many, many others. If you think, somehow that these moves will help your ratings, I think you’re sorely, sorely mistaken. P.S. If you want to keep me for 3 hours at night, you’d best not mess with Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell.

Indeed it does. As does the webcomic further back in the thread.

re: #157 jaunte

“They are now walking to Vienna.”

Good on them! Reminds me of a group in southern Arizona, Humane Borders, a non-profit religious organization which to quote their web site “offers humanitarian assistance to those in need through the deployment of emergency water stations on routes known to be used by migrants coming north through our desert. Our sole mission is to take death out of the immigration equation. Our water tanks are on a combination of private and public lands. In all cases we have permission to locate our water stations on these lands in writing from the landowners.”

Their leadership is generally made up of conservative folks who have actually read the New Testament. They provide a very important and often lifesaving service to their fellow human beings and are well worth supporting.

Needless to say, the Minutemen and their fascist ilk hate Humane Borders.

re: #136 Higgs Boson’s Mate

Funny, I happened to read a monograph on that very subject a few weeks ago. You’re right; there are documented complaints from colonial New England, including many from indentured servants, about the monotony of eating lobster day in and day out. At the time, only servants and the poor (overlapping categories) regularly ate lobster.

Posted this downstairs in response to our host’s post about CCJ. Duh.

Meanwhile, Chucky has suddenly gone wild on his Facebook page, posting a manic stream of weirdness. This guy is really losing it now.

I wonder … has CCJ been the recipient of what we used to call “The Come to Jesus” phone call from his attorney? The one where we sit the client down (figuratively or literally), and patiently explain to them that no matter how butthurt they are, no matter how convinced they are of the righteousness of their cause, the law just ain’t on their side, no judge nor jury will EVER rule in their favor, and from this moment on, the options narrow down to 1) total cornholing or 2) total cornholing with a side of bankruptcy and perhaps some jailtime sauce.

That might explain the massive preschooler petulance on display?

Any news yet on what’s up with the SLAPP suit and Gawker? ‘Cause there’s a serious fucking meanstreak over at Gawker, and if they get a chance, they are going to bend Chucky over and give it to him like a prison bitch.

Only 250k?

The US could easily take in all of that. That less than 1/10th of 1% of the US Population.

Much more than that are displaced. I’ve been seeing 8-figure numbers thrown around.
