Tech Note: New Autosave Feature in LGF Pages

Never lose your work

Today we have a nifty new feature for authors of LGF Pages: announcing … fanfare please … autosave!

It’s now almost impossible to accidentally lose a post, even if your power goes out or your computer crashes, because every post you start writing is now automatically saved to our database server every two seconds.

Autosaved posts last for two days, then they’re automatically deleted. An autosaved post is also deleted when you actually publish it (or save a draft copy).

There’s a button labeled “Restore Autosave” near the top of the LGF Pages window that lets you call up a list of all your autosaved posts, and choose to restore one, delete them all, or delete one at a time. If you hover your mouse over the title of the autosaved post, a preview pops up above it with an excerpt from the text and a thumbnail image if you’ve included one.

This is an extremely handy feature, and can also be used as a sort of quick “save as draft” feature since you can always restore any post you’ve been working on as long as it hasn’t been two days or more since you last worked on it.

So there you have it. And please forgive me for the visual pun at the top of this article.

Updinged for the pun.

And also all the work you’ve done to build such fantastic features and the fantastic community that uses them.

So, uh, I was volunteering at a Habitat For Humanity store, and when we dropped off a some furniture at a customer’s place the other guy and I were offered a joint as a tip.

How’s everyone else’s 420 day going?

I always liked this guy’s music, but also had the nagging suspicion that he was probably a gigantic douche. Suspicions confirmed.

Billy Gorgan goes on Alex Jones’ show, rails against SJWs.

Yep. He’s an asshole.

An interesting one from Daily Kos, which include what I think is an appropriate challenge to Sanders supporters:

And that’s only one issue among many that impact women, economics, and our national well-being. Hey, I get the argument against identity politics that is so important to all you economic warriors for justice who support Bernie. But where you err is here: it doesn’t have to be an either-or proposition. Consider that there are two ways for Hillary Clinton to go in this election. The first way is to try to bring the Bernie Sanders fans into the fold, after which we all join together on the issues (in other words, meld together the issues of economic rights for all that the Bernie fans champion with the rights of women, gays and minorities that the Democratic Party champions, as well as the rights of young voters to participate fully in our economy, politics and culture), and hope for a wave election this November.

The other way is to understand that Sanders’ fans will never come around for whatever reasons they may have, in which case Hillary Clinton will have to tack to the right for votes in the fall (especially from Republican women in this election). The effort she puts into one or the other choice, depends solely on Sanders’ supporters and whether you can see a path together with her (us, liberals, progressives etc. in the Democratic party). She, and we, can’t force anyone to do it. It’s up to you to make this decision. What Sander’s supporters do now before the Convention will make a big difference in how it all goes forward. The time is now to think this through).

TL;DR: Clinton will tack right to find votes if she doesn’t think she can get Sanders supporters on board.

Also. I get that this is a horrible thing to say to a dudebro, but I am genuinely excited at the fact that the US might finally elect a woman to the highest office.

I get that this is a “fucking finally” moment in a lot of ways, but it’s still genuinely exciting.

Humans with penises may have some trouble recognizing that, although I respect that there are definitely those who do, but it helps me recognize how meaningful Obama’s election was to a lot of African Americans in a way that I probably didn’t realize then.

Aaaaand in news that really sucks…

The New Orleans officers who had been convicted of murder for the Danziger bridge shootings during Katrina (see wikipedia for the rundown…cops opened fire with assault rifles on an unarmed family walking to the store) have been resentenced today after their court ordered retrial and subsequent plea bargain.

For murdering two men (shooting one in the back as he lay motionless on the ground), shooting several other people including two women (the mother had her arm amputated, the daughter was shot 4 times) and engaging in a top to bottom conspiracy to cover up the murder as well as arrest one of the victims (!) the final judgement of justice is:

3 to 12 years for all five of the criminals.

Blue lives matter. Black lives….not so much.

It’s something I’ve been thinking about alot lately. To go from a Presidential son to a black guy and now a woman possibly is pretty exciting. I have to admit that it didn’t really dawn on me early on since Clinton is very much a mainstream candidate but still the first woman to be elected? That does bring a smile to me. It will really show that the presidency is open to all regardless of race or gender.

I’m not celebrating until it’s announced in November.

But I want to see it, and I’m more than willing to do my part to make it happen.

Addendum to the above post on the Bartholomew family who were shot at in New Orleans:

Over 10 years later, their civil rights lawsuit is still unresolved. The City of New Orleans refuses to even meet with them.

Dead and inured black people on a bridge don’t matter if it was cops with Kalashnikovs and M4 carbines doing the shooting.

I want to make a comment about “act as if you’re down by a ten points and it’s the fourth quarter.” Most people are not athletes, and they don’t have an athletic mindset. For most people, being down by that much with so little time left means they’re going to find something else to do. Becoming that emotionally attached to something that looks like it’s going to fail is draining, and most people don’t have time for that. (See Sanders die-hard fans to get a glimpse of the hysteria that can occur if your team is actually losing and you can’t come to terms with it.)

Most people tend to be excited to be part of something that’s winning. So, instead of being down by ten, the correct analogy is that we’re up by three but if we let up, the other team will win. This includes continuing to do the things that got us to that point, and making sure to keep pushing (as in GOTV).

It wouldn’t have been needed if the previous prosecution team hadn’t gone so far outside the law and judicial ethics to convict those assholes the first time. They got a favorable plea deal because the current prosecutors couldn’t be sure the jury would convict after hearing about their predecessors’ shenanigans.

Moral of the Story: Taking shortcuts as a prosecutor means the risk of dirtbags getting away with murder. Those charges with arguing for the State in court must act honestly.

Does not excuse the sentences, nor the fact that the judge is openly in the tank for the (former) officers.

Also does not excuse what the city has done to the family since then.

That is a fabulous record. As good as the band was at that point, I give a lot of credit to Flood for his production work. He made them sound…perfect.

I had heard stories from the producer of their first album that they were difficult to work with, but he chalked it up more to them being young and too stoned.

If you’re talking about Gish, I love the production on that record, it’s one of my favorites. Butch Vig.

Looks like Colorado is going to go in a different direction in revising their Presidential primary.

By Joey Bunch
The Denver Post

Republicans and Democrats will announce a plan for a Colorado presidential primary Thursday that would allow the state’s unaffiliated voters to participate.

More than one-third of Colorado voters — the largest bloc — are not affiliated with a party. The legislative proposal would allow them to choose which party’s primary they would wish to participate in.

Thirty days after the primary the registration would expire, said Rep. Dominick Moreno, a Democrat from Commerce City, one of the authors of the bill.

The measure would apply only to the presidential race. All other party caucus operations, including selecting delegates in the nomination process, would remain the same, he said

More: Colorado presidential primary bill would allow independents

I wonder what the unintended consequences will be?

Well, he is right in the sense there is a bias out there against bad music…something he has been specializing in for just about 20 years now.

Had no cash in my wallet so I was at a loss as to how to tip the guy - he seemed so friendly and midwesternish he was almost out of place on industrial row where the shop was. But as I have a meeting tonight, I decided I’d offer him my tickets to see the Giants/D-bags. He said, “Did someone set you up to do this?” Turns out he and one other guy were from the St. Louis office and were in the Bay Area helping with getting a service center ramped up. They’d been talking about baseball all day. So when I offered, they said, “Mad Bum versus Grienke? Hell yeah!” - big baseball fans in St. Louis, apparently.

Episode 4 of the Animaniacs fun little detail. This is the episode where they help Michaelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel. They do three paintings of the ceiling: a blank wall; their own pictures; and mostly what Michaelangelo wants, what it is today, but the center replaced with Eliot and ET. But the detail was in the second painting of the ceiling. Among all of them were three children with really big round eyes. I’m not into artwork that much, so I didn’t know about Margaret Keane, the woman who created the painting style, until the move that came out in 2014 starring Amy Adams.

A $25 bill is a dumbass idea to begin with. We have 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollar denominations now in widespread use. Given that, is there any mathematical need for a $25 bill? Maybe we can really marginalize blacks by putting them only on the new $17 and $43 bills.

The notion that we shouldn’t do this because it could cause a fight is chickenshit. Every fucking thing the govt. does “could cause a fight” one way or another. I’ve previously said I approve of putting Harriet Tubman on the $20, but one of my reasons why is one the Lost Causers will hate: She worked with Union Col. Montgomery to plan and execute raids along the South Carolina and Georgia shores that freed slaves and burnt Rebel plantations. These raids in 1863 were part of the beginning of the scorched-earth tactics the Unions would use to end the Civil War. Ms. Tubman knew such tactics were nasty and destructive, but she also knew and explained why they were Just and needed. She understood first-hand the cruelty of slavery and was prepared to take the needed measures to end it.

I’d love to have been in the room when Clemens told President Grant that the publishers who were bidding on Grant’s memoirs were all scamming him, and Clemens offered to print the book himself for only something like 15% of the profits, the opposite of what the other publishers were offering. (Remember, though Grant’s presidency and post-presidency were scandalous, he was generally considered the greatest living American of his time). The ensuing bestseller made Grant’s indebted family a mountain of money (Grant died of cancer before publication), and garnered Clemens a pretty penny. The memoirs are imo — as well as those of James Joyce, Gertrude Stein and Ernest Hemingway, and a gazillion historians and readers — among the finest ever written.

Clemens went on to invest his hefty profit on other alas less successful endeavors. But hell I’d put all my money in a cool new printing process. Wouldn’t you?

I think the base idea was that similar to $1 coins and $2 bills a $25 bill would be ignored and then rapidly withdrawn from circulation, thus restoring the status quo. So the suggestion is serious only in the belief that it is set up to fail.

So much has changed in some ways, so little in parallel ways. What we’re seeing now I think is the backlash of white people who are completely oblivious to how lucky they have been through our history. Since they don’t even acknowledge white privilege, they see all minority “complaints” as a threat. It will probably get worse before it gets better. Especially between now and November.

True. Four 25-cent coins (quarters) equal a dollar, which is often convenient. Has there been any outcry from anyone for a 20-cent coin? How the hell would that improve the system?

If anything the $25 bill would just complicate the simple arithmetic of money by throwing an unnecessary new bill in the mix.

I did make my goal (barely, probably thanks to dehydration) before the cruise, so now to get solidly and realistically under that and then keep on trucking downward.

I was going to say how thin you looked in that picture, but as soon as I opened it, my computer froze (No, I’m not blaming you) and it took awhile to get back on. But it’s a very cute picture.

Do they still have the dining room that changes colors throughout dinner on the Disney ships?

Good, Curt Schilling is a mindless tool. He epitomizes the reactionary rural white sports fan, someone who thinks nothing should ever change from his grandpappy’s era, and that all discrimination in America ended when blacks were allowed to compete in traditionally all-white sports.

And, a few years ago, when Schilling lost most of his fortune investing in just ONE video game company, I have to say it couldn’t have happened to someone more deserving. A fool and his money….

Unfortunately, he was a fool with other people’s money, as he also squandered money from the state of Rhode Island (Mass. was smart enough to tell him to take a hike) as well as screwing over all of his employees—including leaving some of them with two mortgages, since he never fulfilled his buyout/moving agreements, and no income.

Yeah, he’s a prince. And, as I said in the last thread, he’ll now have more time to think about how he didn’t get into the Hall of Fame for another year.

Wow, that whole story is just unreal…

One of the company’s final acts — between June 4 and June 6 — was to pay COO William “Uncle Bill” Thomas just over $12,000 for his work shutting down 38 Studios, according to bankruptcy documents. Nearly every other employee had not been paid for more than a month. Many local industry veterans and tech investors tell me they’re outraged by how Schilling failed to responsibly unwind the company and transparently communicate the dire situation to his employees long before May.

One former staff member vented his frustrations on Facebook, writing, “I’d like to honestly know why I was hired in the first place on January 16th, 2012…when members of the company knew they were behind on bills and not doing well economically? I moved my pregnant wife, sold my house for a loss of 18k, relocated away from all my family and friends for a company I thought was honest and forthright to their employees. What did I get in return? An unpaid [$10,500] relocation package months after it should have been paid, a pregnant wife who found out our insurance had lapsed from our doctor, a ton of bounced checks and payments to bills when we found out our paychecks had not been paid through the media and a large debt to my unemployed father to help us survive.”

Surprisingly, though, during and after the company’s demise, many former employees continued to stand up for Schilling. When I attended a June 13 mini reunion at a bar in Waltham, one ex-staffer told me, “I’d still take a bullet for him.” On the phone, even Thom Ang — stuck with his old mortgage — said, “I love the man,” adding that Schilling could not have been responsible for how he and his coworkers were misled and mistreated. “How the business was run? That’s not Curt,” Ang says.

You can find the whole story here. HIGHLY recommended reading.

The short version is that Curt Schilling didn’t have a clue how to run a fucking company, right down to not realizing that employees having weekends off was kind of a normal thing.

Today is Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, and they will be all kinds of activities to mark the occasion. This one caught my eye, and not just for the delectable cake.

The monarch will also be presented with a birthday cake at the Guildhall by the Great British Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain, who is baking an orange drizzle cake with orange curd and orange butter cream.

bbc.com

It’s a reminder that England is as much a melting pot as the USA is. Hussain was born in Bangladesh, but raised in the UK. Her baking skills are largely self-taught.

There were some soreheads complaining about her Bake-Off win, of course. The same kind of people who complain about Harriet Tubman being on the $20 bill.

More on this cake

What it’s like baking Her Majesty’s birthday cake

“I just thought it was a sick joke. I was like, ‘Why are you lying? Why would she want me to make her cake?’” Nadiya Hussain tells Newsbeat.

The Great British Bake Off winner was asked by Buckingham Palace to make a cake for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

And since that invitation she’s been in her kitchen at home working on it.

“The design completely came off the cuff. I’ve gone for a vibrant colour and I’ve gone for the complete opposite of a traditional cake,” she explains.

“I’d love to say that somebody gave me a specification but I had nothing which made it even harder.

“It was literally a free for all. I had complete creative control.”

So I received an unsolicited mail from a “young Russian single”, and just having had a Cyrillic keyboard installed, I was interested in trying it out. So I repled.

Seems that this lady never asked for money, and was in fact interested in coming out to visit me at her own expense.

Nonetheless, I grew suspicious when she never seemed to answer any direct questions about herself, just sending boiler-plate blah-blah about her native city along with professions of eternal love and togetherness…

So as the date of her “arrival” approached, I was still terribly suspicious and Googled “Russian women + scam”, led to a page from the American Foreign Service to whit: so you are at the gate waiting for her to arrive and she never shows. Then you get a desperate mail, stating that she is being detained at customs and immigration unless she can show that she has €2,000 to enter the country. Could you please wire the money? She will pay it back as soon as she gets through customs.

So you wire the money and…

I think the base idea was that similar to $1 coins and $2 bills a $25 bill would be ignored and then rapidly withdrawn from circulation, thus restoring the status quo. So the suggestion is serious only in the belief that it is set up to fail.

Many currencies such as the British Pound use a 1, 2, 5 cadence for notes and coins, starting from the penny, the 2p coin, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coin. Notes are £5, £10, £20, £50. The Scottish banks issue a £100 note. The Euro follows the same cadence but the national banks issue notes up to a 500 Euro denomination.

The UK also has a £5 coin, the Crown but they’re usually issued as commemoratives. You can spend them but few shops will recognise one and accept them. They’re usually put away in a drawer and never go into circulation which means the Government gets free money every time someone buys one.

Note that there are dodgy £5 commemorative coins which aren’t legal currency within the UK, minted in places like Jersey or in the colonies. Read the small print — if it’s not from the Royal Mint it’s not a real coin of the Realm.

The US used to have 2.5 dollar gold pieces. The $10 coin was an “Eagle”, so there were “Half-Eagles” and “Quarter-Eagles”. I used to have a couple of 1913 Quarter-Eagles—they were like gold-plated dimes.

I also had a $1 gold piece, which was like a fish scale. It just blew away one day and I never did find it.

There was, in the 1870s. At the time, all cents and nickels were minted in Philadelphia and were slow to reach the Western states, so the Mint had the bright idea to mint a coin that had the value of two dimes. Unfortunately, this was at the time when the Mint had a standardized (Seated Liberty) design for all of its silver coins below the dollar. Imagine if the Susan B. Anthony dollar hadn’t just been nearly the same size as the quarter, but had nearly the same design.

The coin lasted for four years, but was minted in substantial quantity for only one, 1875.

None of the recent dollar coins have caught on, either the Anthony or the Sacajawea ones. They compete with the much more prevalent dollar bill, which people (and cashiers and vending machines) are much more used to. If Treasury would start scaling back printing the bills (on an announced schedule, I suppose), it would increase the likelihood the coins would catch on.

China has both bills and coins for small denominations (1, 2 and 5 jiao = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 RMB, and 1.0 RMB), but is apparently trying to wean people away from the bills. Cashiers where I live no longer return the small change with bills. Only coins. Buses and subways in the larger cities will only accept the 1.0 RMB coins in the vending machines.

It looks like VW will buy back nearly 500,000 vehicles in a tentative settlement.

Volkswagen AG and U.S. officials have reached a framework deal under which the automaker would offer to buy back almost 500,000 diesel cars that used sophisticated software to evade U.S. emissions rules, two people briefed on the matter said Wednesday.

The German automaker is expected to tell a federal judge in San Francisco on Thursday that it has agreed to offer to buy back up to 500,000 2.0-liter diesel vehicles sold in the U.S. that exceeded legally allowable emission levels, the people said.

Common Core is already administered by the state, and local school boards and administrations are free to adapt CC as is needed. There’s nothing in CC, other than a logical requirement that certain national standards be met, that steps on local authority at all.

Your morning educational update from the great state of KY.

Did Knox Co KY School Board Chair Graduate From High School?

Kentucky State Police said that a Knox County School Board member is being investigated for perjury, after he cheated on his GED exam.
The investigation started shortly after community members questioned whether or not the chairman of the school board graduated from high school…

Penny Norman, a concerned parent, said she found that the diploma Smith posted to Facebook was not legitimate. While working for Smith, Norman said he admitted to her, that he didn’t have his diploma…

On Wednesday, Kentucky State Police said a person must have a high school diploma or a GED to be on the school board. Trooper Shane Jacobs said that the perjury investigation, involving Smith, started two weeks ago.
State Police said Smith went to the Jackson County Adult Education Center on March 30th to get his GED, but he never took the test.
“We have since been able to confirm that Mr. Smith did not take the GED exam, that someone took that exam for him,” said Trooper Jacobs.

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell last week, hitting its lowest level since 1973, suggesting the labor market continued to gain momentum despite weak economic growth.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 247,000 for the week ended April 16, the lowest reading since November 1973, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims for the prior week were unrevised.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 263,000 in the latest week. Jobless claims have now been below 300,000, a threshold associated with healthy labor market conditions, for 59 weeks, the longest stretch since 1973.

Still, it is a little amazing that in 2016 there are people who have Internet access and who wish to express themselves this way. They must be pretty confident there aren’t any conservatives of color, or conservatives with some sensibilities, who will object.

EXCLUSIVE: Chuck C. Johnson hates Cathy Young, who isn’t white enough

Here’s the basic facts. Cathy Young is female (duh). She’s Jewish. She’s libertarian. She doesn’t like Donald Trump much. She says the alt-right movement, which loves Trump, is basically a collection of anti-Semites and racists.

She’s also tweeted out some harsh criticism of one Chuck C. Johnson. For example,

.@Hello_Obamabots @ChuckCJohnson Stay tuned, tomorrow Chuck Johnson will report that Jackie is really Hillary Clinton’s love child.
— Cathy Young (@CathyYoung63) December 8, 2014

2) OTOH Chuck has harassed & doxxed people, & apparently used blatantly dishonest methods in his “news gathering.”
— Cathy Young (@CathyYoung63) May 26, 2015

You see where this is going, right?

Here’s Johnson’s headline from the 19th, in case you need a hint.

Considering that many bathrooms with multiple toilets have doors to the individual stalls, how is any of this a problem? It isn’t. Never has been. And who’d be checking to make sure that someone is of the right gender anyways?

But if you’re going to decide that you have to use facilities based on your birth gender, expect to see women in the men’s room and vice versa.

How is any of this such a major issue that it requires legislating bathroom use? Only the fever swamp minds of the GOP would think this is the issue to keep the angry hordes they’ve cultivated for a generation fixated until November.

Then again, it’s being pushed as an issue because the whole Planned Parenthood video BS blew up in their faces with indictments against the CMP extremists, not Planned Parenthood, which did nothing wrong.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., isn’t happy that a Tennessee native, former President Andrew Jackson, is being displaced on the front of the $20 bill.

“United States history is not Andrew Jackson versus Harriet Tubman. It is Andrew Jackson and Harriet Tubman, both heroes of a nation’s work in progress toward great goals,” Alexander said in a statement Wednesday.

“It is unnecessary to diminish Jackson in order to honor Tubman. Jackson was the first common man to be elected president. He fought to save the Union. He defined an American era. He helped found the Democratic Party. And he was a great Tennessean.”

Re: The Billy Corgan on Alex Jones nonsense waaaay upthread.

Smashing Pumpkins is one of my favorite bands of all time. I still listen to Siamese Dream — it’s one of the few albums I keep on my phone’s limited storage. I never saw the band as a whole in a live setting, but last year, my brother surprised me for my birthday with tickets to an all-acoustic show billed as “Smashing Pumpkins” that was just Billy with a handful of guest musicians. It was magnificent.

Like I said, I’m a huge fan, but it’ s been apparent for a long time that Billy is kind of a dick, and pretty much nuts. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that he’d be attracted to Alex Jones.

But I’m going to go on enjoying Smashing Pumpkins — mostly their older stuff, for nostalgia, because the newer stuff is positively meh — because I learned a long time ago that if you can’t separate an artist from their art due to political or personal differences, and thus choose not to partake, you’re going to run out of art to enjoy if you scrutinize the artists too closely.

Obviously, there are exceptions; I’ve refused to read Ender’s Game (or see the movie) because of Orson Scott Card’s active campaigning against gay rights. For me, he went beyond “being a dick” into “supporting legislation that makes being a dick the law.”

“There is a prize of £1,000 - so start composing your foul verses”

At the end of last month, a German comedian appeared on German television and read a poem mocking Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey. Jan Böhmermann’s satire was directed, among other things, at the laws President Erdogan has been using to lock up his critics. Turkey — which David Cameron is still fighting to bring into the EU — now has some of the world’s most repressive speech laws. Numerous journalists have been arrested for ‘insulting’ President Erdogan and he has even been known to ban Twitter in the country when corruption allegations against him and his family have surfaced online.

Yet until Mr Böhmermann came on the scene, one might have expected these lèse-majesté laws to remain in Turkey. Not so. After the late-night comedy show in Germany, the Turkish government complained. Then the show disappeared. Then Mr Böhmermann disappeared under police protection. Then the prosecution began. Yes — in Germany in 2016, a comedian is now going to be tried for being rude about a foreign despot.

“It’s not surprising that Sanders’ most liberal supporters have concerns about voting for Hillary — after all, Hillary has an actual record to scrutinize. Hillary has had to stake out positions, and then follow through on them. And things didn’t always work out as planned, as happens when your theoretical goals become policy. Sanders, on the other hand, has the odd advantage of rarely having put his ideas into action. So there’s little to hold him accountable for, besides his oddly unprogressive embrace of the gun lobby.”

Sarah Palin lamented ESPN’s decision to fire baseball analyst Curt Schilling for sharing several memes offensive to transgender people in a Thursday morning Facebook post.

“ESPN continues to screw up,” the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential presidential nominee wrote, along with a link to a Hollywood Reporter article on Schilling’s termination.

Palin also shared a meme along the lines of those that led to Schilling’s dismissal. In the left panel, a white man labeled a “victim” complains about homophobic people intruding on his “safe space,” while the right panel features a young girl who is a labeled a “bigot” for complaining about a “40-year-old man wearing a dress in the girl’s restroom.”

The VDare link is Steve Sailer claiming he “uncovered” a report that is freely available on the web. The report contains findings of a research study by the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), which publishes exams in reading, math and science. Those were given for the first time to 15-year-olds in PR in 2012, and the findings were published in 2014.

The scores are low, but despite what Rage Furby claims, they don’t measure IQ or intelligence. They measure quality of instruction and retention.

Nope.

Consumers will be allowed to sell back their vehicles to Volkswagen or get repairs, the judge said. But financial details of the offer, which is still being finalized, were not disclosed.

[Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.)]… chided the committee for wasting time on this issue in pursuit of a political agenda: “This so-called committee is the very definition of a kangaroo court,” she said, “a mock court that disregards the rules of law and justice to validate a predetermined conclusion.” She also criticized the panel for expending effort on “what goes on inside a woman’s uterus” while “ignoring what happens to babies and children outside of them.” She pointed to the health implications for children in stifling fetal tissue research, and specifically to the Centers for Disease Control’s recent research that has used fetal tissue to investigate the connection between the Zika virus and microcephaly.

I was thinking of her when I used a line the other day in the story I’m writing for class(I’m writing a story from a British officer disillusioned in the middle of the first world war), anyhow I talk about how the only time the protagonist remembers his father shedding a tear was when Victoria died.

Chucky doesn’t care about what the reports actually say, no more than he has actually read The Bell Curve. Both are mentioned just as a excuse for him to spew hate and abuse. In this, Chuckles the Bigoted Clown is essentially saying:

You remember how taken she was with the Obamas; I know it was taking her back to her earliest duties attending independence ceremonies in various Empire countries, especially in Africa. 565
William of Orange  Apr 21, 2016 • 10:23:17am

Damn….

Not a huge fan but for all his mannerisms he still was a class act. I’ve seen him perform three times. The first time was in a Feyenoord stadium in Rotterdam. It was pouring with rain and I was soaked to the bones. This was the second night of a three night sold out consert. The first night was rained out halfway through the set. Part of the stage could not handle the water load and came crashing down, right on the piano he was playing.

He still had time to come back later in the year for a surprise gig in the Thialf ice arena. I was there and the night was magic. Snead O’Connor got her fame with it but when the master himself sings his song “Nothing compares to you” and performs it like it was meant to be as a screaming blues rendering, shivers went to my spine. It was more than 20 years ago but the impression it made with me was everlasting.

What a sad year we have. Not four months gone but we lost Bowie, Frey, White, Kantner and now this….

My heroes are fading away…

Instead of worrying about who uses which bathroom, perhaps there ought to be some laws enacted that stress that if your child uses your loaded gun to inflict harm on him/herself or others, it’s not an accident—it’s criminal negligence.

I was out on a photo job in Southern Ohio. I hadn’t been by this little old town in probably 15 years. When I saw it in its current condition I decided to stop and take this shot.

I thought it very reflective of the state of things in poorer Appalachian communities. Sad that a once vibrant little town like Shawnee Ohio has fallen into complete disrepair. But everything and everyone moved to bigger areas with jobs when things like coal mining, and brick making were no longer keeping these communities alive.

It also shows the complete differences in a state like Ohio. Around Columbus it is boom town…so much new and shiny. Go 70 miles southeast and the contrasts are stunning.

Yeah, I’m not sure there’s much of a prize for being 8th to report a death, vs being 10th.

Thoughts on Prince’s death:

1. Shit.

2. 2016 sucks so far WRT musicians deaths, and it isn’t even 1/3 over.

3. 57. One year younger than me. And all those guys who didn’t make it to 70. I know it’s the random noise one gets all the time, but Jesus!

It would be good if the advent of Twitter gets cable news to become more responsible, since they’re never going to be the first to report anymore.

Only in California would gun control look like this. The a law is working it’s way through so that a gun that a person makes themselves must be registered. The legislature calls it the ghost gun registration bill but I prefer a more contemporary, accurate and Californian description.

The California Artisanal gun registration bill should be passed.

No sarc ‘cause I don’t want anyone to doubt my real support for the idea, with a little humor.

It’s a donation solicitation, and one entirely within the bounds of decency. It doesn’t vilify Islam in general, only the Islamist Radicals. Nor does it vilify liberals, saying only that they will not be as effective in opposing terrorism as is John McCain.

re: #610 klys (maker of Silmarils)

No, its when you get mad about activities of other political factions that would not be offensive to a reasonable and prudent person.

An example: Republicans should not become angry because a Democrat is arguing for Safe Storage of Firearms laws. This does not preclude opposing such laws or saying that such proposals should be amended to make them more just or more effective, but such opposition or calls for amendment should be done in a respectful and non-enraged manner. To scream “SHUT UP, YOU GUN-GRABBER!!1” is Politically Rabid.

By contrast, if a liberal local writer says that all gun owners are fools and knaves, then it is not Politically Rabid to call that person a gun grabber or to tell them to fuck off. The writer began by going after a broad category of people in an obnoxious and know-nothing manner, and in such cases no respect need be shown.

I’m gonna leave this here so as not to interfere with the shiny new thread upstairs:

From the article:

Peter Zieve, president of Mukilteo-based Electroimpact, said he is throwing in the towel on his campaign to raise concerns about the mosque and what he says is a link between having a mosque in a community and breeding Islamic radicalization.

“Apparently I have no privacy, and I have no freedom of thought,” Zieve said Wednesday afternoon.

The negative response that he got via email and in local newspapers “just completely overwhelmed me,” he said. “I didn’t anticipate it.” […]

My irony meter just exploded. First Amendment for me, but not for thee, I guess. How dare people (especially Muslims) be offended—I demand free expression without push-back or consequences!

Rod Dreher is shitting his pants today over the transgendered social justice warriors that came for Schilling and that are now waiting to cart him off to Dachau.

OK, that’s a provocative image, and Schilling was unwise to post it in this LGBT-McCarthyite environment. But is so bad it merits firing? Besides, I’m pretty sure that a rather huge number of people, especially ESPN viewers, share disgust with how if you aren’t on the Trans Bandwagon, you are basically a neo-Nazi. And honestly, is the commonly held opinion below now the sin that dare not speak its name?:

The outrageous bigoted smear picture that Schilling posted was “unwise” according to Dreher because of a “McCarthy environment”…not because the image was patently grotesque and offensive.
