Breitbart “News” Threatening to Sue “Major Media Company” for (Accurately) Labeling Them “White Nationalist”

They can dish it out but they can’t take it
Media • Views: 66,552

The most popular openly racist website on the Internet, the site that champions “free speech” (read: racism) and being “politically incorrect,” the site that attacks liberals and Muslims and women and anyone else they don’t like with incredibly vicious and demeaning slurs, is now threatening to sue a “major media company” for defamation.

Breitbart’s statement says they were defamed by being accurately described. (Not in so many words, of course.)

“Breitbart News Network, a pro-America, conservative website, is preparing a multi-million dollar lawsuit against a major media company for its baseless and defamatory claim that Breitbart News is a ‘white nationalist website,’” the statement reads.

“Breitbart News cannot allow such vicious racial lies to go unchallenged, especially by cynical, politically-motivated competitors seeking to diminish its 42 million monthly readers and its number one in the world political Facebook page. Breitbart News rejects racism in all its varied and ugly forms. Always has, always will,” the statement continues.

At Little Green Footballs, we’ve been chronicling and keeping track of the virulent racism and hate speech that dominates Breitbart “News” for many years. Here’s an LGF search for “Breitbart” with almost 600 results, and if you browse through some of these articles you’ll see some of the absolute worst this poisonous website has to offer.

The discovery phase of this lawsuit, assuming they actually carry out this threat, should be very interesting indeed.

But I admit, I don’t really understand why they see this as defamatory. They’re going to find it difficult to show that their reputation is actually damaged by being described as “white nationalist,” because the knuckle-draggers who frequent Breitbart “News” comment sections see this as an attraction, not a detriment.

Which “major media company” are they threatening, you ask? Well, after this confrontation between Don Lemon and Breitbart hack Joel Pollak yesterday, I think it’s quite possible the target will be CNN.

First, there is no such thing as CNN. There is Time Warner which owns CNN. That’s who Bannon is really threatening (if CNN is the target). Nice little cable business you have there. Too bad if something happened to it.

There is also no such thing as NBC. There is Comcast which owns NBC.

OH, I meant to say. Mrs. Fish had posted a humorous comment to the FB timeline of makeup company Cover Girl, talking about how it was so important to her to recover her makeup that she returned to the crash site to dig around for it (accompanied by a photo of her standing in front of the mangled remains of my vehicular transportation). I received a mystery package on my front step this morning… From the Cover Girl company, filled with makeup, and a letter explaining that they appreciate a customer who finds their product valuable enough to risk going back for it. I was completely blown away; that, to me, is a company with a great social media manager. Props to Cover Girl.

Remember that AT&T also wants to buy TimeWarner**, a merger Trump allegedly wants to derail. This cannot be a mere coincidence.

** TimeWarner spun off Time and their magazine division as the “new” Time, Inc. Also Time Warner Cable is merely a brand name slowly being phased out by Charter Cable.

To recap: the Five Minute Rule states that any member of the Paul family will make sense on any political issue for exactly five minutes. Precisely at the 5:00:01 mark, however, he will say something so far off the rails that you will find yourself looking at him as though he has sprouted a reptilian head out of his sternum.

It was a difficult life. Still is. As I said earlier, my great grandfathers weren’t miners because they loved coal, it was one of the few lines of work they could do with their educational level and limited grasp of English. They both sacrificed a lot and both died younger than they otherwise would have as a result. They did to give their descendants better futures.

Mr. w wants to replace our elderly 94 Ford Ranger so we can have airbags.

For a passenger one, yes, most of them have a disable option. Some of them use the ignition key to disarm the passenger air bag, I think.

But it’s got electrolytes!

Brawndo the Thirst Mutilator had come to replace water…
virtually everywhere.
Water, the basic component of all life…
had been deemed a threat to Brawndo’s profit margin.

The solution came during the budget crisis of 2330…
when the Brawndo Corporation simply bought the F.D. A and the F.C. C. Enabling them to say, do and sell anything they wanted.

The Evil Company in that series was Zik Zak. They made that “blipvert” ad for their Bisonburgers that made their viewers “explode”, as it were.

One of the truly underrated shows of all time. I confess I haven’t seen the series in AGES. 😞

And if you think about it, what’s really different from that show’s oligarchy of network news operations over what we currently have?

The Subaru, sadly, does not.

I did find instructions on how to do it if we decide to go that route. I could probably manage it on my own. We just have to decide if that’s what we want to do.

No disrespect to coal miners but I can’t imagine what it must be like to work for hours in a dark, sweaty, dirty mine way down deep in the earth. Just the thought of doing that kind of work makes my heart skip a beat. I respect the fact that that is the only job some people can get though.

While I’m sure that there are miners who still go down into dark and dirty holes in the ground. Most coal is mined by removing the entire mountain and throwing away the toxic sludge they don’t need into river valleys.

Meanwhile Subaru has ignored every comment I have made online about the lack of communication regarding the airbag recall. mr. klys and I are trying to figure out what we’re doing over Thanksgiving, because the plan of taking his car into Saline Valley sort of relied on me being able to sit in the passenger seat so we could use all the space in the back for things like “a full size spare tire” and “bad road gear.”

We got that recall notice back in July. The dealership is saying maybe early December for the repair but they can’t guarantee that they’ll have the parts. As far as they knew they were supposed to have gotten them in September.

Props to Cover Girl though.

For what we want to do, a loaner car doesn’t really work. Unfortunately.

Hell, even my car would need some work before we’d feel comfortable taking it on the roads we were planning on driving. His car has hybrid on-road/off-road tires and a skid plate for exactly this reason.

Cover Girl recently used a model in hijab in their adverts, a Muslima who blogs about fashion and stuff, and an androgynous-looking “Cover Boy,” who I think has some YouTube channel about men using cosmetics. Their social media staff knows what they’re doing.

Might explain why a lot of Republicans supported him. Without realizing that it doesn’t necessarily make Trump easier to control and in fact dangerous to them as well.

If there is any truth to the conjecture, I wonder how quickly it will become common knowledge. Is a full, very comprehensive physical required early in the job, by a military physician? Not to mention that Trump can’t do the transition while hiding much of the time, there are simply too many demands that can’t be avoided.

Has Sanders specifically commented on Bannon or is he just rambling that these are just establishment guys Trump is bringing in? Yeah that part is hypocritical but it’s really the least of Trump’s problems. To be honest, some of the establishment names i.e. Rogers would be better for Defense than Flynn who might just get it now.

The terrific, fabulous replacement for Obamacare and Medicare is Trumpcare: everyone on this incredible new program will receive, for only $99, a framed portrait of Dear Leader with the caption, in beautiful gold leaf calligraphy PRESIDENT TRUMP CARES.

The portrait must be kept immaculately clean and placed in a prominent place in the home or office. Inspectors will pay unannounced visits to ensure compliance.

Just. Shoot. Me.

Well, she’s qualified — she has at least one major scandal in her past. She’ll fit right in!

Seriously, she’s as bad a choice as Ben Carson. He wants to use the Dept. of Ed to monitor universities’ politics. Rhee would just do away with public education funding.

Which would be actually interesting here in Texas. Our constitution requires that all children be given a “free and efficient” education. Now, the state has tried to see just how efficient they can be, but not getting any money from the Federal government would probably be a problem. Then again, Texas is the only red state in the top ten states that pay more in taxes than they receive. But that difference would just be returned as a property tax.

That won’t make RWNJs happy, but that decision is not up to Trump. Any RWNJ Trump puts on the court that would take out Roe would also take out Obergefell. The only exception to this that I can think of would be if Trump were to try to put Peter Thiel on the Supreme Court.

I’ve told you and the other Minnesota lizards this before but when Al first said he was running for office, I did a double take. I mean I didn’t like what I knew about Norm Coleman (I had a couple friends from Minnesota at the time) but it was like huh Al Franken, well okay. Well he won on Obama’s coattails as you know and as you also know he’s been a great Senator. I never doubted Al’s intelligence (knew he was a Harvard man) but his dedication to his craft is one of the best I’ve ever seen for someone without a career in politics. Minnesotans are lucky to have him. He’s also of course a wonderful guy.

The fact that the Raving Freakazoid Nut Sandwich is now one of the loudest critics of the Trump team (and his observation on Bannon being a white nationalist, misogynist bigot is spot on) should be a really telling sign.

WATCH: Even Glenn Beck says you should worry about Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon, a “terrifying man”

As the alt-right celebrates Donald Trump’s selection of Steve Bannon, conservative radio host Glenn Beck has denounced is sounding the alarm about the president-elect’s pick for chief strategist, whom he’s calling a “terrifying man.”

“He’s a nightmare and he’s the chief adviser to the president of the United States now,” Beck told his audience about the Breitbart leader during a Monday night broadcast.

“You know, if people really want to in the press would like to call Donald Trump a racist, you might want to stop on that one and spend a little time on [Steve] Bannon,” Beck added.

Beck closed by ominously noting, “He is a frightening man — no no no, a terrifying man. And it speaks volumes.”

I need to read more about her but if our educators like yourself and SFZ don’t like her, that’s not a good sign to me.

Rhee is all about self-promotion as an “experienced education reform expert,” but her actual track record belies that claim. After she left as chancellor of the DC school system, there was a huge scandal about teachers falsifying students’ standardized test answers, to raise the schools’ overall scores. The tests were established by Rhee, and she had bragged that the higher scores verified her educational policies worked.

She and Trump are birds of a feather.

“School choice” is about as Orwellian a phrase as you can get. You get cut a check, you don’t actually get a choice where your child goes. Why? Because those private schools you want your darlin’ in will just raise their tuition rates to keep’em out, the charter schools will remain diploma mills, and that check ain’t gonna be able to allow you to move to neighborhoods where the “good” schools are. The purpose of “school choice” is simply re-segregation, returning things back to the days when minority schools were poorly funded rat-traps while white schools were the best because they got plenty of funding.

re: #212 Kragar

I read It Can’t Happen Here two weeks ago. It’s eerie.

I’m on vacation until next Monday, so I went out to that “church” I picket on Sundays because they’re having a “Pastors School.” I arrived later than I should have, but I did get a couple of attendees giving me pop-eyed looks. I was also surprised that the church hired an off-duty Scottsdale cop to patrol, presumably looking for me. I had a good conversation with a neighborhood guy who identified himself as a Christian but wanted to know if Driscoll was a bad guy. I think I satisfied that itch when I told him Driscoll made $650K in 2014.

I got curious after I got back from Scottsdale, wondering how much it costs to have a rent-a-cop. Well, it’s $42.13/hour. I did some number crunching, and at minimum, Mark Driscoll has spent $2,864.84 on off-duty police. This doesn’t include the several volunteers he’s got deployed as “security.” All for a fat, middle-aged woman with intermittent sciatica.

Really, the funniest thing here is that Ben Carson has decided he won’t take a job with this administration. I guess even he sees what a train wreck this is turning out to be and wants no part of it.

For those who have been following, I’m writing a short story set in the Spanish Civil War but using a lot of the modern parellels.
Miguel Juan Lopez had been captured by the Nationalist forces. He and his squadron of Republicans had started out the Civil War as just defenders of the Republic but two long years of Civil War had radicalized them. The Nationalists that caught them reviewed them as they prepared to execute them. A familiar face approached Lopez. Where did he know this face from? He figured he would soon breathe his last so he felt no harm in yelling out “Pedro, Pedro Iglesias, is that really you?” A vaguely familiar face turned and starred. The fascist’s face, undistinguishable before became friendly.
“Miguel, what are you doing among this socialist swine?”, asked Pedro
“I could ask the same of why you fight for fascists who want to take away the rights of the people.”, Miguel replied.
The two men had known each other as boys. Both their fathers were part of Spain’s pre-Republican elite but Pedro’s father’s job had taken him to far away from where they grew up and they had lost touch. Miguel had embraced Marxism in college. He wanted to be a lawyer, a fighter for the people. Pedro had presumably joined the army as his father before him and joined the officers’ rebellion against the Republic two years ago. Scenes like this had happened across Spain the past two years where old friends found themselves new enemies.
As he starred into his old friends’ eyes, Juan Miguel tried to remember how he got this point. He remembered Pedro well. They had been very good friends as boys. He remembered the nervousness both felt as they made their first confessions to Father Marin. They would play children’s games in the Spanish countryside together in the summer as day turned into night. The boys’ fathers weren’t friends but everyone who knew Pedro and Juan Miguel knew their friendship was strong. Neither of them could imagine an event overtaking them. Pedro’s family moved the year before the Republican was declared, his father transferred to a town on the other side of the country. It was said that Juan Miguel cried for weeks and didn’t speak to anyone for days after his friend had left. He recovered eventually and made new friends but it was tough getting over the loss of a dear friend. And then in 1931, five years before the rebellion, the Republic was declared. Juan Miguel’s father, though an officer always had a fierce independent streak and embraced the news. He would gladly serve the new Republic just as eagerly he did the king.

From Balloon Juice, because I think the advice is important:

The last week has been hard on everyone. I have two ideas that help with that. The first is to get involved in resisting this bullshit. I already put some ideas up, some of which people might have misunderstood. I don’t want you to go hug a Trump voter. Join whatever group you want. Join something. Look for a chance to link up with likeminded groups to defend American values in solidarity. If you are going to those protests, try to make some contacts to build a network. Strengthen your existing networks. The only thing I would add to this general good life advice is to apply some strategic message discipline. Having Steve fucking Bannon work in the White House should horrify my conservative neighbor down the street just as much as my own family. At the same time my neighbor’s reaction will different if I tell him you are horrible and stupid because you voted for this, versus this is NOT you and I know you did NOT vote for this, and I hope you will agree with me that this guy and the behavior he represents is not acceptable in the America we both believe in. Don’t go looking for Trump supporters, but if you can’t avoid it or you meet a reporter or something consider a little message discipline. A little media/communications savvy makes the difference between shouting and tangible progress. This is activism 101, and it basically describes our policy for dealing with restive muslim populations as well (don’t make your problem bigger than it needs to be).

But there’s something even more important - get some sleep. Trump is a chronic problem that we won’t be able to fight without rest. Like a lot of you I had a rough couple of nights last week, until I figured out something that I decided I might as well share. Stress tends to go to my stomach. I already take antacids/antigas once in a while, but this time they were not cutting it. So I tried something that sounds really dumb. I closed my eyes and counted all the things in my bedroom. Then I counted the stuff downstairs. Then I started lumping things into categories. Gradually the panicked thoughts about the end of western civilization gave way to the more important job of naming all the books on my bedstand. After a while my stomach quit turning and I have had decent sleep since. Now a couple times a day I stop and count the random stuff around me. It seems to help me keep a level head. If you think you might need something like this, try it and let me know if it helps.

In the first paragraph, he says what I’ve been trying to formulate. In the second paragraph, he talks about something I’ve been trying to deal with. I’m not sleeping very well, and I’ve lost about 4 pounds since the election. I am eating at every meal, and sometimes even snacking in between, but I’m just not eating a whole lot all at once. My stomach still can’t take the tension and a whole lot of food. At some level, it’s good for me, as I’m about 35 pounds overweight. But if something wakes me up at night, it’s nearly impossible for me to get back to sleep; my brain starts thinking about what needs to be done about Trump.

I think that part of what’s eating me is that there is so much normal going on right now. My fight or flight mechanism has nothing to fight or flee against. In part, because of my social standing, skills, and skin color, I may never be directly affected by anything going on. I’m not sure I can say the same thing about my children, especially since my oldest is gay. But I still feel something for all the people that I know are about to be affected. At the same time, being here in Rockwall, it’s hard to feel that there’s a whole lot I can do. There’s zero chance of running against any of the Republicans, since I don’t have that kind of money.

So, I’ve donated to two groups, and gotten a WaPo subscription. I’ll see what I can do next.

Yes, I’ve added a lot of ramble.

My estimation of Carson went up by one-half a notch. It seems Trump’s biggest problem now is going to be finding enough people to work in his administration. Not only did he have no ground game during the campaign, but his team apparently never considered lining up potential replacements for the Obama crew in the event Trump won.

Maybe they’re as surprised as the rest of us were.

It’s something I really need to learn more about but I always had a problem with vouchers for the simple reason that they take money out of our public schools and put them into private schools which I think unconstitutional especially if those are religious ones.

No disrespect to coal miners but I can’t imagine what it must be like to work for hours in a dark, sweaty, dirty mine way down deep in the earth. Just the thought of doing that kind of work makes my heart skip a beat. I respect the fact that that is the only job some people can get though.

I have been way down a hard rock gold mine. Down in a Sierra Nevada granite mountain. I could never work in there. There was a spot where we had to lay back and watch that rock ceiling glide by just a foot or two over our faces. Not going back.

An architect of anti-immigration efforts who says he is advising President-elect Donald Trump said the new administration could push ahead rapidly on construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall without seeking immediate congressional approval.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who helped write tough immigration laws in Arizona and elsewhere, said in an interview that Trump’s policy advisers had also discussed drafting a proposal for his consideration to reinstate a registry for immigrants from Muslim countries.

Kobach, who media reports say is a key member of Trump’s transition team, said he had participated in regular conference calls with about a dozen Trump immigration advisers for the past two to three months.

Trump’s transition team did not respond to requests for confirmation of Kobach’s role. The president-elect has not committed to following any specific recommendations from advisory groups.

Just to play devil’s advocate here, on a few of these items, it really isn’t a zero-sum situation. Many of the “lost” votes for these groups weren’t going to vote for a Democrat, no matter who the candidate was.
We can concentrate on a few of them, however that DID have a direct impact:

Jill Stein Voters/Blank Presidential Ballot (how many of these were hardcore Berniebros who were intent on sabotaging Clinton’s vote count)
Voter ID
Voter Purges
Voter Suppression/Intimidation
Media false equivalences

Just to play devil’s advocate here, on a few of these items, it really isn’t a zero-sum situation. Many of the “lost” votes for these groups weren’t going to vote for a Democrat, no matter who the candidate was.
We can concentrate on a few of them, however that DID have a direct impact:

Jill Stein Voters/Blank Presidential Ballot (how many of these were hardcore Berniebros who were intent on sabotaging Clinton’s vote count)
Voter ID
Voter Purges
Voter Suppression/Intimidation
Media false equivalences

I will always curse Jill Stein’s name til the day I die.

I can never forgive her for giving us Trump.

So I had a discussion with a Trump supporter earlier this morning, the older woman who drops off the USA Today to our hotel during the week. We’d had short talks leading up to the election, but I’d had no indication before today that she was a Trump supporter. So you can imagine my surprise when the first thing she asks me this morning is who I voted for. Seeing as politics was something I was trying to avoid in my personal life, I pulled a childish “You first” and then gave a non-committal answer after she told me “Trump” that made her assume I’d also voted for him.

After that, the discussion (paraphrased) went:

Her: “So now we’ll be able to get rid of all those illegals.”

Me: “He probably won’t be able to do it.”

H: “Sure he will, he got elected.”

M: “Congress says they won’t give him the money to do it.”

H: “Well, there’s a new Congress come January.”

M: “Same leadership will be in place.”

H: “Yeah, well he can just veto anything that says otherwise, he’s the guy in charge. Because we really need them all gone, every one of them.”

M: “But what about the children born here?”

H: “Sure, they are here illegally.”

M: “So we should deport American citizens? Those kids were born here in the US, they’re citizens.”

H: “Yeah, but their parents are illegals, so they are illegals and they all need to go.”

M: “I knew people whose only crime was overstaying their visas. It happens.”

H: “Well yeah, they need to go too. Anybody who didn’t follow the rules should be gone. My grandfather took the citizenship test, he did things right. (This woman looks to be in her 60s or older, so granddaddy probably came over when becoming a citizen was “Can you read English and spell your own name?”).”

M: “There are states that say they won’t cooperate.”

H: “Well, he’ll just pull their funding. Look at Arizona, as soon as the governor there (Brewer) cracked down, they all left right away.”

M: “A lot of them left when the jobs disappeared during the Recession.”

H: “Yeah, well I’m from there and my brother still lives there, and he says there’s guys standing on corners all the time looking for jobs. Well, have a nice day.”

And no, that’s not an oversimplification of the conversation, that’s pretty much what was said in so many words. Anybody who tells you that these folks voted out of “economic anxiety” are actually overstating just how much of that “anxiety” comes from simple racism.

I think they were convinced a loss was going to happen. All that talk about a TrumpTV launch didn’t occur in a vacuum.

Franken was a big supporter of Paul Wellstone. I wasn’t sure about him when he first announced, but he proved pretty quickly that he knew his stuff and was serious about the job. I hope he wants to stay in the job for a good long time.

It’s something I really need to learn more about but I always had a problem with vouchers for the simple reason that they take money out of our public schools and put them into private schools which I think unconstitutional especially if those are religious ones.

Ravitch used to be a proponent of school choice, vouchers and charter schools, but she’s too much of a scientist to ignore cold, hard facts. Now she sees the whole movement as an wide-scale attack on public education. Read her books on the subject.

Of course. Millions of our fellow Americans are worried that their white privilege is losing value. Their kids and grandkids are taking up fewer and fewer seats in the classroom, those kids are finding themselves competing for college admissions and jobs, and the faces they see on the TV screen are increasingly something other than white. The country they grew up in and took for granted is slipping away and they realize it. The GOP has been tapping into that vein for years, playing to that fear but never outright stating it. Now comes Trump who just begin stripmining the vein, screaming that “those people” are threatening America’s inherent whiteness and if we chase “those people” out of America then it will be “Great Again.”

Right now it’s “illegals” and Muslims. But it’s going to expand as people who don’t see too many of either in their lives start looking for other scapegoats.

No. It is either too early or too late to think of guns. Let things calm down while more info is developing. Anything really threatening would take a good bit more time than the fools realize, and will have to ramp up visibly.

More important is your environment. Get into a trustworthy community relationship that includes organizations outside the Muslim circle. Form alliances and self-support groups. Get a realistic evaluation of the reliability of your police force. People are your protection.

Only if everything is clearly going to shit, think first of moving to safer areas. Guns are a last resort, and require determined training or they are worthless.

Someone needs to tell the white supremacists that.

Racist fliers found on SMU campus

A controversial flier found on Southern Methodist University’s campus is causing some students to speak out about diversity and inclusion.

A flier with a headline reading “Why White Women Shouldn’t Date Black Men” was discovered in two residence halls’ stairwell on Sunday, according to a University spokesperson.

“To be honest, I think it’s quite offensive,” said Malachi Haines, an SMU law student.

The flier goes on to detail reason to avoid black men. It refers to them as abusers, likely to have STDs and produce children who are not smart.

The flyer itself (advertising a well-known neo-Nazi website) openly advocates the reader to “Take the Red Pill and meet the Alt-Right”

Everybody is shocky, but we will learn to adapt. The community counts, and broader is better. By far most Americans, even most Republicans, don’t want the worst of the excesses their party has permitted to fester. Like most of the people in the world, we will have to do more planning for unpredictable, but unlikely, crises. We will learn as needed.
