On Sean Hannity’s Pathetic Public Meltdown

Will he be the next Fox hack to get canned?
Politics • Views: 45,346

Fox News dimwit Sean Hannity is having a very public, very grotesque meltdown over his promotion of yet another far right conspiracy theory; that DNC staffer Seth Rich was murdered because of some nebulous connection to the release of hacked DNC emails by Wikileaks.

Some conspiracy theories hang their wild conclusions on a shred of evidence, but in this case there appears to be absolutely no evidence, and Seth Rich’s parents have a disturbing and poignant piece in today’s Washington Post begging these hordes of deranged right wing bloggers and media hacks to stop politicizing their son’s murder.

In a very uncharacteristic move, Fox News has actually retracted their story on Rich’s murder. I can’t even recall the last time they retracted anything. That’s how ridiculous and despicable this fake news story is; even Fox won’t continue with it.

But Sean Hannity? He’s tripling and quadrupling down, refusing to retract anything and claiming to have more information than anyone else, information that’s going to save the Trump presidency from the Russia scandal.

“For those accusing me of pushing a conspiracy theory, you are the biggest phony hypocrites in the entire world,” Hannity said Tuesday.

“This issue, it’s so big now that the entire Russia collusion narrative is hanging by a thread,” he said, referencing media coverage of the investigations into the Trump campaign and possible ties to Russia’s meddling in the presidential election last year.

“If in fact, take Seth out of it, there was a whistleblower within the DNC — a truth-teller that was actually the source for WikiLeaks, not Russia — working with the Trump campaign. These are questions that I have a moral obligation to ask, and I will do the mainstream media’s job like I have most of my career.”

Hannity has been arguing for days that heavy media coverage of the Trump-Russia investigation is hypocritical because no evidence has been found directly linking the campaign to Russia thus far.

“You’re trying to take down a president, and I’m trying to get to the truth,” Hannity said on his radio program. “I have an agenda to get to the truth,” he continued. “I’m not saying I have answers yet, but I’m digging deep, and I have a lot more information than all of you do at this point.”

“For all of you in the media, I’m not going to stop doing my job and asking questions, because I know the lies you’re telling, and the conspiracies you’ve spun, with no evidence, to destroy a president in conjunction with the deep state,” Hannity added.

Because that’s what this is really all about, of course: a pathetically desperate attempt by the far right to find something, anything to take the focus off Trump’s increasingly obvious and increasingly serious problems. And they don’t care who they hurt or smear or libel to do it.

What happened the the “alt-left” that Hannity invented? Has he forgotten about it?

piratedan  May 23, 2017 • 4:40:24pm

he’s been handsomely compensated for being a lying sack of shit and despite that, losing this platform would go a long ways to starting to tear down the Faux News facade that has been propping up these poseurs for quite some time. Asshats like Hannity and O’Reilly gave it a veneer of respectability (at least with folks over 55 and were gullible) and while these folks will be fine financially (most likely - spit), getting them off the airwaves is a good thing to help us start to bring people back into the fold instead of walking in lockstep to whatever Ruperts program directors decided to lead.

This comparison made me chuckle.

It’s.. it’s as though Hannity was the Galvatron to Ailes’ Unicron- and now that Ailesicron has been destroyed (unfortunately, not by the Matrix of Leadership), Galvannity has lost all his sanity (since Ailesicron had overridden it with his dark energies).

This still does not satisfy The Major: Sean Hannity must repent, wherever he goes-and I will be there until he does.

6
lawhawk  May 23, 2017 • 4:43:16pm

Hannity is running conspiracy theories all to deflect attention from Trump-Russia, and he’s gonna keep running this conspiracy nonsense until he’s either fired or…. naw, he’ll keep running it unless and until he’s sued out of existence.

He’s got no other options at this point. He’s so invested in this nonsense that he can’t back down (taking a page from Trump in the double down in face of being called out for his bullshit). Hannity doesn’t care that his own network has retracted. He doesn’t care Daily Caller did the same (though without an official retraction - they just simply 404’d the story).

Hannity doesn’t care about anything other than feeding the rubes - his listeners - with nonstop bullshit.

That radio and TV mouthpieces like Lumpy and that Oxycontin-chewing, purported childfucker Rush Limbaugh, neither one of whom has a college degree, had such influence in American politics continues to amaze me. These are simply grifters- con men- selling themselves, not facts.

Americans, at some fundamental level, deserve them. As they deserve another grifter, Orange Foolius.

What a sad and bitter asterisk in the history of our Republic.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Alex Jones - all of these have one thing in common: They built their careers on feeding conservatives’ confirmation bias in the era of “librul media”. Their hyperbole was carefully constructed to continue to stoke outrage and fervent agreement without critical thought. There truly is one born every minute, and men like these know it.

Not too different for him from the days of Terri Schiavo, spending two hours of a show dedicated to the case.

With respect to White Resentment, the Confederacy was allowed to mostly win the peace after the civil war, and movement conservatism is mostly a backlash against the civil rights progress that was made in the 1960s.

I just went to the customer service chat for my recently purchased Hulu account and lodged a complaint with them for being a primary advertiser for Hannity despite his disgusting conspiracy theory, threatening to drop my subscription. The customer service agent apologized and said they had been getting other complaints as well and would pass mine along. If anyone else has the time it is a nice use of less than 5 minutes!

As to Mr Hannity and his so called meltdown. Quite a few years ago I went to a signing event at a bookstore called Borders. Mr Hannity was there to sign copies of his book. I was in line to get his autograph. There was a person who was not too well dressed in line and Mr Hannity said to that person, “What are you going to do with my book? Sell it?” At that point I quietly left the line and went to the manager and got a refund. He has been like this for a while.

There is nothing unusual about Hannity. Think about the model Republican today — The Trump— who mocks and disparages minorities, women, the disabled, war heroes; only autocrats and demagogues and plutocrats escape his contempt; and the party falls in line. Trump voices their views.

Infowars granted White House press credentials, promptly smears victims of Manchester bombing

Infowars founder Alex Jones smeared the victims of the attack during the Ariana Grande show in Manchester that killed at least 22 people, describing them as “liberal trendies.”

Apophenia and narcissism.

This is precisely the curvature of ideas and reality I was talking about earlier today: the people who died have to be slotted into Jones’ worldview (and those of his audience), which means they had to deserve it. Who they actually were just doesn’t matter.

I think what continues to sicken me about the NRO piece is that they’re still conflating “racism” with “populism.” Still bestowing Trump with this mantle of being a mouthpiece for the poor and working classes, when really he is the living manifestation of all the worst bile and hatred that exists within the party that they have happily paid lip service to as they pursued their tax cuts and deregulation. For all their “worry” now, if he were removed from office before 2020, they’d happily embrace Pence and make the case for why we should join them in doing so.

What the NRO is arguing is that we continue to normalize and suffer through Trump until 2020, when he can lose to a Democrat and they can con the rubes into believing that he alone lost and not the party.

Sean wouldn’t like my story: When I was a kid, we had to go on food stamps and free and reduced lunches. The elementary school I went to had so many poor kids that once every few months RIF (Reading is Fundamental) would come by giving out free books. But, I went on from there to be the first person in my family to graduate from college after going into the military (the state paid for my college because I was a veteran) and I have a high paying job (I make about 3 times what my parents did).

I like your story. In fact, I like it a lot. That’s the sort of thing I want my tax dollars supporting. Of course, I don’t like Sean, so there’s that.

What’s a bookstore?

Was it the Borders in Center City? I really miss that place.

I will tell you this: I am not claiming to know exactly what privileges I received. I worked my butt of, studied (almost) all the time, took a whole lot of hard classes. In the sixth grade, I was the first person in my school to go in the gifted program (which meant once a week I left my school and traveled to a different school to be with other kids), I was captain of the student patrol, and I taught the half of my math class that was struggling with math. But I’m not going to believe it all worked out as good as I got completely because of my hard work. I know this, in part, because of how I was treated when I got to middle school.

I was the only kid in the 7th grade gifted program from my elementary. All 6 of the other kids came from the wealthier elementary. And the guys from that school were bullies. Imagine being a kid and finding out that even in the gifted program there could be bullies. So, I just know that there are things I got from being a white male that I might not have gotten otherwise.

Look, I tried to explain this morning, but perhaps you didn’t see that comment. If you make a whole host of grandiose claims re having special info or some magical way to “take someone down” - and then fail to provide actual goods to back it up - why should anyone believe you? Your cause, as it were, may be good, but tactics like those put you on the same level as Louise Mensch and Kim Dotcom.

And if don’t know what happened with Reginald Perrin, here’s the Cliff Notes version:

In other words, he’s saying he’s on very thin ice with James and Lachlan. You and I already know his plan was to politicize Seth Rich’s death to distract from Trump & Co’s troubles, but since Seth’s parents are thinking about suing his *ss, he has to “send” a message to his viewers that although everything isn’t OK, they have no reason to be worried. Mr. Perriello understands how our economy works, but there are others like Mulvaney & Co. who also know but their desire to please their economic “betters” supersedes all else, and then, of course, there’s their own desire to protect their own assets, too. What pisses me off most about these tools is that they’re always among the first to tell us how important their brand of “c”hristianity is to them. The funny thing is that if the Titanic has rammed that iceberg head-on, the ship may have survived.

I remember reading that analysis as well. The bow of the ship might have crumpled and the forward compartments might have flooded, but the damage to the hull would have limited to the forward sections. The flood doors would have prevented the other compartments from flooding. What sunk the ship was a long gouge along the starboard side, which flooded several compartments at once.

Also, I recall the captain ordered full reverse power and hard left rudder, but the cavitation from the propellers made the rudder mostly ineffective.

Yes, but are you truly prepared for mind=blown? Read the bio for Christine Pellegrino*, who won in this supposedly blood-red GOP district!

*I’m not trying to be a jerk, I swear! I didn’t even know who she was until tonight, and only found that page when I googled her just now. At any rate, it would definitely be worthwhile to study what kind of campaign she ran…

When people are angry enough, they will vote against the incumbent or the establishment candidate, without knowing anything about the opponent. This often does not end well — in the 1980’s, angry voters in the Democratic primary in Illinois unwittingly selected a member of LaRouche’s party for Lieutenant governor (plus another one for a different position) thereby dooming the Democratic candidate for governor.

And that’s precisely why I want to hear more details about her campaign and comments from the voters - was it simply an “FU” to trump, or did a significant number vote *for* her and the positions she expressed?

Either works for me. We need to adopt whichever approach is more successful. In an ideal world, we would be running positive campaigns promoting our plans for the future— but demonizing and damaging the opponent is often a winning strategy. The Republicans have been doing that for years against Clinton. The big difference between us and them is that we can do it using the truth, instead of lies.

Christine was a Bernie supporter. So maybe some can actually win their races.

More info here: In upset, Democrat Pellegrino wins 9th District Assembly seat

With all precincts reporting, Pellegrino won 58 percent of the vote to Gargiulo’s 42 percent, according to Suffolk and Nassau boards of election results posted Tuesday night.

While Republicans hold a 13-point registration advantage in the district, progressive activists hoped to capitalize on opposition to Trump by turning out motivated Democrats in the election, Long Island’s first since November.

“Bold populism that puts working families’ issues front and center. This is how we win in Trump country,” said Bill Lipton, state director of the Working Families Party, Tuesday night. “This is the lesson for Democrats around the country.”

Teachers for Christine, formed by the New York State United Teachers, has spent $145,000 from May 10 to 17.

Looks like she had a lot of support and financial backing from teacher’s unions and the Working Families Party.

Are you suggesting people without college degrees cannot hold reasoned discourse, thoughtful opinions (or perhaps run for office)?

I’ve seen that argument used before with Scott Walker of Wisconsin, that he doesn’t have a college degree.

People like Hannity or Walker aren’t conspiratorial agitprop pedallers because they don’t have college degrees. They would be jerks if they did have college degrees.

If you think people should not inveigh on politics (or run for office) without a college degree, I’ll show myself out, thanks.

IMO, I think the point that A_B was trying to make about Hannity and Limbaugh not going to or finishing college is just a symptom of their brand of conservatism, which eschews higher learning, logic, facts, and real debate.

I don’t think anyone here would say that you have any problems at all with those skills.

I agree 100% — Trump has a college degree as does Steve Bannon, O’Reilly has an IQ of 150 or so. Formal education has nothing to do with character, empathy, and moral leadership and little to do with intelligence. Harry Truman had no college and was one of the good Presidents of the 20th century. Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are college dropouts. One of my anti-Obama birther friends has a Phd in history.

re: #256 Belafon

Sean wouldn’t like my story: When I was a kid, we had to go on food stamps and free and reduced lunches. The elementary school I went to had so many poor kids that once every few months RIF (Reading is Fundamental) would come by giving out free books. But, I went on from there to be the first person in my family to graduate from college after going into the military (the state paid for my college because I was a veteran) and I have a high paying job (I make about 3 times what my parents did).

When I was a kid, my mother went to college on VA benefits. When my sister and I grew up, we both went into the military - she for one tour, me until I was bounced out for disability after seventeen years.

I’m guessing Mr. Hannity wouldn’t like our stories either: What? Your whole family in the military, and you all turned out as liberals? Your mother, your grandparents? Where did America go wrong?

GA-06 still seems to be the brass ring right now. If Osoff can pull it off, the GOP is gonna shit a collective brick.

Also MT-At Large with Quist. Gianforte lost there only six months ago in the governor’s election. Rob Quist is known all over the state as a folk/country singer in towns large and small.

Of course not. I am just noting that they are pushing themselves forward as expert commentators when they don’t have the backgrounds to do so. It’s not 1846 when a man like Abraham Lincoln can “read the law” and become a lawyer. There are rules, regulations, and bar exams.

When amateurs put themselves forward as experts, and it is allowed to happen, it dumbs down the conversation. The Limbaugh’s and Hannity’s of the world are con-men and charlatans.

If you have a high school degree and a wealth of life experience and present that to a group of people in an honest fashion, and they accept that as a sufficient amount of knowledge to act as an elder and leader of a community, then good for you. You’ve done your job and are a leader for your polity.
