In Which Trump Decides to Defend Himself Against Charges of Sexual Misconduct by Attacking Sen. Gillibrand With a Grossly Misogynistic Tweet

Suddenly, there’s a renewed chorus of people talking about Donald Trump’s well-documented history of sexual harassment and assault. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has been one of the most powerful voices, calling on Trump to resign over this disgusting history.

He shouldn’t have been elected in the first place, let’s face it; but it’s certainly clarifying that the Republican Party and its voters see nothing wrong with this kind of vile behavior.

So this morning on Twitter, Trump decided to defend himself against these charges of misogynistic behavior — by posting an attack on Sen. Gillibrand that’s absolutely shocking in its blatant misogyny, even for this swine of a so-called president.

Trump cult members all over Twitter immediately started trying to spin this ugly comment, saying, “He didn’t mean anything sexual in that tweet to Kirsten Gillibrand!”

Pro tip: they all know that’s exactly what he meant.

Sen. Gillibrand responds:

1. I remember similar sentiments on the day of the Virginia elections.
2. They’re not going to go away without a cheat.
3. This shouldn’t even be a contest.

I continue to hope there is a large enough sliver of white Alabamians who don’t want to shame themselves and their state by sending a child molester to the US Senate.

The GOP has a plan: Alabama will change its rules allowing governor to appoint a new senator (instead of holding new elections) for two years should one be disqualified.

This will allow them to kick Moore out of the Senate, but prevent him from trying to run again.

In two years, new Senator will be popular enough to be re-elected without challenge.

It is all a matter of getting enough of them to the polls, and I already fear that has been taken care of by the wrong side

Yep. And with that Secretary of State, African American voter suppression will continue. The white South is just as racist as ever and will do anything possible to preserve their power. Certainly there are many Southern whites who support diversity, but as long as they remain a minority, there isn’t a chance for improvement, especially with white supremacists in charge of the three branches of government in Washington.

I was putting together a comment in the previous thread when I got a phone call and of course a new thread popped up after I posted it. It was in regards to Charlie Chaplin and the discussion some were having regarding his closing statement at the end of The Dictator. Some things never changes in politics. Here is the post again.

- - - -

And you know how Charlie Chaplin was treated by the U.S. Government in his later years.

He was part of the Un-American Activities Committee blacklist.

So for those that think this era of politics is messed up, just remember nothing is new under the sun.

This is from his Wiki Page under the sub heading of one of his last movies “Limelight.”

Chaplin decided to hold the world premiere of Limelight in London, since it was the setting of the film.[281] As he left Los Angeles, he expressed a premonition that he would not be returning.[282] At New York, he boarded the RMS Queen Elizabeth with his family on 18 September 1952.[283] The next day, attorney general James P. McGranery revoked Chaplin’s re-entry permit and stated that he would have to submit to an interview concerning his political views and moral behaviour in order to re-enter the US.[283] Although McGranery told the press that he had “a pretty good case against Chaplin”, Maland has concluded, on the basis of the FBI files that were released in the 1980s, that the US government had no real evidence to prevent Chaplin’s re-entry. It is likely that he would have gained entry if he had applied for it.[284] However, when Chaplin received a cablegram informing him of the news, he privately decided to cut his ties with the United States:

Whether I re-entered that unhappy country or not was of little consequence to me. I would like to have told them that the sooner I was rid of that hate-beleaguered atmosphere the better, that I was fed up of America’s insults and moral pomposity…[285]

Because all of his property remained in America, Chaplin refrained from saying anything negative about the incident to the press.[286] The scandal attracted vast attention,[287] but Chaplin and his film were warmly received in Europe.[283] In America, the hostility towards him continued, and, although it received some positive reviews, Limelight was subjected to a wide-scale boycott.[288] Reflecting on this, Maland writes that Chaplin’s fall, from an “unprecedented” level of popularity, “may be the most dramatic in the history of stardom in America”.[289]

I admit, I have been a bad boy this afternoon. I wrote to Mitch McConnell’s email contact form and I was not very nice. I apologize to the good nuns that taught me to respect our leaders. But you know what, I happen to think some of those nuns would be unloading on The Orange Mess in the White House much the same way.

Here it is if anyone wants to read it. I was set off by the tweet where he said he does the senate’s business in reply to questions about the Democratic women congress folk who want an investigation into Trump’s many sexual harassment allegations.

I don’t apologize. And I don’t care if there are mistakes. I wrote it fast in the heat of the moment. (And I am not a big believer in hell…artistic license!)

I hope others do likewise. Light the GOP contact forms up people. Send them a message…even if short…and let them know how you feel. It all adds up.

It’s beyond F’d up.

Republicans refuse to seat an Obama SCOTUS pick.

Republicans court Russia and then joke about it.

Republicans change their platform to benefit Russia.

Republicans call into question the integrity of the FBI.

Republicans openly state tax breaks will benefit the rich alone. Their benefactors.

Republicans now fear Jones will win AL and they are refusing to seat the winner until they pass their regressive policies.

Republicans are doing everything to disenfranchise voters they think will vote D, starting with POC…but it’s all of us, if it’s a D district, the same games are being played.

Republicans are absolute traitors.

F’d up doesn’t begin to cover it.

I hate that damn party and I’m glad our big GOP hack is gone because I probably say something to get me banned.

Your letter was far too nice to McConnell. He should be attacked as a traitor and clearly on Putin’s payroll. He knows exactly what he’s doing and I think we should all make clear that the Republican party has become the Putin party and that the GOP House and Senate are deliberately destroying this country. Maybe they need a reminder that they passed a sanctions bill that Trump has ignored and they haven’t taken any steps to enforce it.

Because they see anything “ordained by Gawd” as being totally unrelated to government, but instead pure reality and common sense. They don’t even see the government enforcing it as being a governmental action.

I did a crying old man in a sinking rowboat pulling in the skeleton of a fish…Didn’t go over well. If that is Hemingway, let me out. Gosh, you’d think Trump would be upset about Voter Suppression after this!

But the First Lady did not sign the envelope she put the ballot in as required by BOE, so her vote wasn’t counted.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka also botched her ballot. It was filled out correctly, but she didn’t mail it until Election Day—which was too late to be counted, officials said.

Her husband, Jared Kushner, didn’t mail his back at all, according to the board.

Officials said the President’s ballot was fine. But that was before the Daily News pointed out to an official that the date of birth on his application was a full month off.

So none of their votes were counted!

At some point in time we’re going to have to address the whole concept of masculinity and femininity in this dumbass culture we’ve created for ourselves. Because this shit is not working and it’s producing large amounts of simply miserable human beings. I am so frustrated with all this nonsense. On the one end you have people who think they have the right to bully, coerce and just outright assault others and on the other we have people so beat down they kill themselves or at the very least live altered lives because of what they have to give up to feel safe. How many of us are medicated or in therapy or both because of being hurt and damaged at the hands of others? We’re supposed to be the best place on Earth to live, but the UN just declared parts of Alabama as bad off as undeveloped nations. And Alabama ain’t the only place. Indian Reservations, Appalachia, all these places have had systemic problems for decades and we’re not doing anything to fix it. Bullies get rewarded, people who love this country and do their best to help their communities are seen as weak and given stupid labels (social justice warriors, etc). For being such a Great Nation, we’re awful damned miserable and mean to each other. What will it take to stop this shit?

I know, I’m being general here. Certainly not everyone is awful. Intellectually I know all this, but my heart and spirit just hurt. I just hate that the bad guys seem to be winning unchecked and nothing is stopping them.

At some point in time we’re going to have to address the whole concept of masculinity and femininity in this dumbass culture we’ve created for ourselves.

The Sexual Revolution did not start in the 60’s, nor did it end there. The 60’s were just a big watershed decade for public opinions on morality and what comprises acceptable roles for men and women.

But we are still not fully rid of the notion that virtuous women are either monogamous or sexless, or that any woman who expresses her sexuality in any manner is a wanton slut, and such women deserve no respect and have no recourse against whatever happens to them at the hands of men.

Nor are we completely rid of the notion that men are allowed or even expected to force their sexual drive on women, regardless of whether they are willing or receptive to it.

I hope that this decade goes down as another major watershed in attitudes towards women, men, and the nature of consent and what sort of behavior is acceptable in society and the workplace.

I read it on my own my senior year in HS and have returned to it several times since. To me it’s like a damn near flawless diamond painstakingly cut and polished.

I always thought the tone and pace of the book lent itself to the story.

Imagine being out on the sea by yourself waiting for your catch that has turned to your life’s war you need to win to prove yourself to yourself.

Boring, slow, methodical and then where is this going and why, questioning yourself the whole time (with the reader asking why they are reading along, where is this going?). Then boom, the pace takes off. Now all are invested, you are glad you read along.

The fight, the ordeal, the relating to the prey and then all that invested time and emotion ends up futile and with the actual reward gone.

You actually live that book. It is like being out at sea waiting on that big catch, the plot, which does turn rewarding if depressing.

My take on it. And I used to fish a lot while younger and trying to figure things out. Nothing like you alone or with a close friend and just your thoughts in a boat out on a lake, bay, sea…and the fish. It leads to some inner searches.

I bet Jake would really blow his mind if he told him that Jesus is a more important figure to Muslims than he is to Jews and that Christ in fact is a prophet in Islam.

Nah, if you really wanna see smoke leak from his head, point him to the Treaty of Tripoli and how it explicitly zeroes out the idea of America as a “Christian nation.”

re: #130 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

At the same time, men’s roles in relationship and men’s degrees of sexuality need some consideration too. The paragraph I put in bold letters made me think how “we” have niches for how men should or need to act.

I can only use my own experience. I am single. Definitely hetrosexual, and for men you are either married, a player, homely/ugly or gay. Oh really?

Oh well…there is your assigned box. You will always be questioned and thought of as different because you may not fit one.

Fuck that noise. Think what you want. It’s all cliche bullshit and shows no one wants to understand you anyway, they already have you pegged. Wrong.

And facing that fucks up a lot of men too. They also are forced to live up to reputations, levels, etc.

If everyone is acting like what they may not be on both sides of the sexes, you can expect things to get weird and out of control. Some bad behavior comes from an anger and frustration for not fitting in with all the labels.

Great example - Men’s Rights activists. Tell me they aren’t screwed up by roles they can’t handle.

The whole sexual dynamics thing needs some greater understanding on both sides. But how do you fix the very thing that no one ever talks about?

Christians should primarily do things out of respect and appreciation for what Jesus did for THEM, not because they feel obligated to do them.

That’s a reasonable interpretation. I’ve felt we’re called to follow his example because if we do that, we treat others the way we’d want to be treated. The golden rule in it’s purest form. You can’t do it from fear, from obligation or, worst of all, expectation of an eternal reward. You can only do it because it is right to do so and that’s all you want.

Right now, the church is dying. Fundamentalism is killing it. The only way Christianity will deserve to survive is if we go back to the roots of radical inclusion and radical love for all and then actually live in such a way that people say “Hey, I want to be like them.”. No Greek or Jew, no male or female, no rich or poor, just all equal before creation who we all treat equally well. It’s not an easy thing to get used to doing - our tribal instincts fight it terribly and our monkey brain have many fears that screw us up daily.

Turner needs to take the purity stick outta her ass and get with the mainline Democratic program or just STFU and join the Libertarians or Greens already. I’m tired of her and the other hardcore BernieBro DINOs either trying to fuck our shit up even worse than they already have or be a fucking wet blanket when we do score some victories.

I can’t even express the rage that overtook me when I read that post a few days ago from some Alabama dem “activist” who wanted people to not vote Jones because he wouldn’t declare for $15/hr min wage and Medicare for All (the Berniac purity pony litmus tests). Those aren’t “allies” in any way; they need to have their lips sew shut and typing fingers amputated.

Morning Lizardim from the sunny and temperate Indian subcontinent. I wanted to check in and see what, if anything, we know about Alabama yet. Unfortunately, right now being Wednesday here does not, in fact, mean that I can see into the future and tell you what the outcome will be. How go things among the lizardfolk back home across the pond?

Turner can’t stand this because if Jones wins, it will be with contributions from the work of establishment groups like the NAACP, and other “old school” groups connected to the Democratic party.

Ari Melber just reported WH lawyer Ty Cobb said “All White House Interviews are Over.”

Well. No obstruction there.

I get the feeling things are about to blow all up.

He has no way of knowing that. And isn’t he the same tool that said the investigation would be over by the end of the year?

Yep, it’ll be another major victory for the DNC in absence of the votes of the purity ponies.

Yup! And it’s a stark contrast because they are actually doing the work, building, not tearing down.

And they’ve been doing it for decades! Hell we wouldn’t be able to vote at all without these civil rights legacy groups and institutions.

What Cobb is really saying is “My client intends to fire Mueller as soon as the chances of doing so killing ‘tax reform’ have passed.”

No returns yet. Exit polls seems to indicate that more black people are voting than usual, and the electorate isn’t that excited about Trump or credulous about Moore. No way to know the final results, but it doesn’t look like Moore will win by a lot, if he does win.

CCR is great. I was just listening to “Green River” today. That song distills them for me—so many great songs.

Yeah, but scuttlebutt is that Fogarty is one of the biggest assholes in show biz, and we all know how stiff the competition is there.

the Sir Douglas Quintet was actually from around the Austin/San Antonio area, they named the band that way to get gigs and noticed. Sahm passed away a few years ago, but was also a founding member of the Texas Tornados (if memory serves)

I’ve heard this too. I was once standing behind Kenny Aronoff in line a little shop in Bloomington, IN and wanted to ask him about Mellencamp, Fogarty, etc., but I didn’t want to be that guy.

I respect Graham as a musician and as a person. Not sure what my beef is with Crosby. Maybe that he got laid a lot even while having that dopey mustache.

We know quite a lot about Alabama, just nothing on the election results yet.
