Dayum. That’s a great question. Thank you. I will ask that. Be sure to be on 6/25 and I’ll post what she said. This is a great question, thanks for the suggestion.
It is one that I struggle with every day.
I’m not one for organized religion (shorter take: our parish priest did 3 years in state prison for what he did to us, which the church knew about), but I do occasionally go to Agape, and the Rev. there had a sermon that stuck with me.
The subject was “Identity Theft.”
Meh, I thought. How much of a big deal is it to have someone swipe your credit card numbers of social security number? Surely quite annoying and costly, but not really an “immortal soul-type” issue.
But it was. The construct goes this way:
When someone acts in such an infuriating, ugly, awful way as to drive you into hate, fury and nonstop rage … then you are no longer yourself.
You are the victim of Identity Theft. Someone has stolen away the essence of the kind, caring and gentle person you are, and replaced that with this furious, depressed person who lashes out and spreads misery.
Resist Identity Theft. Be who you are. Do not be a mirror to what you see.

Something about the original made me loathe it when it came out. I’m older and tastes change but I still don’t like the original, maybe because of my earlier bias.

That’s why I get a bit insulted when my group, the Baby Boomers, catch so much shit from the “yoots” in the Democratic Party. It’s all “step aside and let us run the show.” But, when push comes to shove, we’re the ones who show up most consistently.
And we’ll be dead and gone before the worst of the shit comes down—we’re not doing it for ourselves, but for their future. We would be glad to step back and support them, but, at least in my experience locally, they want to run their mouths more than anything else.
One example—I’ve been president of our Dem Women’s group for five years. Not because I really want to be, but because nobody will step up. We do a survey asking what our members want the group to do, what they’d like to do personally, and if they’d consider being an officer. Not a single person has answered yes to that last question.
And we go out of our way to reach out to the young women to join and what did they do? They scheduled their “Young Democrats” meeting on the same night as our meeting.
I’m so impressed with the Parkland kids—they are truly putting their money/time/effort where their mouths are. They’re coming to South Carolina and somebody in my age group asked a local group of youngs how we can support them (money? lodging? whatever.) We were told to step aside and let the young people take care of coordinating their visit. Thus far, haven’t heard another word about it.
I won’t stop, but it does get discouraging.

re: #62 Charles Johnson

Sometimes I think the most simple explanation is the obvious one and here’s what I think. I think Trump is in awe about how much power those guys have and he sees that and he really wishes he had it for himself. It’s why he has no problem lashing out about the press to them. It’s why he’ll trash the checks and balances that make our system work. A normal man or woman would see that power and perhaps feel the same awe but Trump sees it and feels he wishes he had it. That’s a dangerous attribute to have in a U.S. President.

Oh and join your local democratic precinct. Become an officer. Vote for electors and policy. That’s where the power is
The fundamental truth is we have a President who is impressed by power not humility. Wrath not kindness defines him. The power to deny not to benefit. Oh and join your local democratic precinct. Become an officer. Vote for electors and policy. That’s where the power is
I get really annoyed when people bitch about how they hate the choices in the GE and are the people who refuse to participate in the primary system. The last three primary candidates I’ve worked for have all lost. That’s disappointing but you know what’s more disappointing is when you get someone who seldom if ever represents you and your views instead of someone who’s going to be on your side most of the time. And that’s the most dangerous thing the BBs and those like them do.

I am sad to not be in Canada. :(
We were delayed by a sudden and horrific storm on the 401. The rain (and hail!) was coming down so hard I literally could not see the road in front of me. Pulled over to the shoulder and just sat there for about 20 minutes until the rain let up.
It was scary as shit.
Meanwhile 18 wheelers were zipping past like it was a little sprinkle.
Then we saw a big rainbow!!
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH CANADA!!!!
This isn’t a “smuggled kids” camp. It’s a “presented under international law as applicants for refugee status” camp.

‘This interview is done’: CNN’s @ChrisCuomo and Virginia senate candidate get into epic battle over support for white nationalists https://t.co/EDmquJJl7r
— Raw Story (@RawStory) June 14, 2018
Pro-Confederate Corey Stewart won the Republican nomination for Senate in Virginia Tuesday evening. President Donald Trump backed him even though he has past supported and associated with anti-Semites and those with white supremacist view points.
“I won the primary because I’m a strong supporter of President Trump. He’s improving the economy, the lowest unemployment rate since the early 1970s. And now a big success in the foreign policy front as we remove the nuclear threat from North Korea,” Stewart said.
Cuomo called out Stewart for a laundry list of every racist and bigot comment or action the Virginia candidate has ever taken.
“That’s why Trump may have won then, but I’m talking about you. You seem to be cottoning to a very specific brand of humanity. You have a well pronounced post by saying that you agree with and that you like people who push ugly, bigoted, intolerant, and racist notions,” Cuomo said.
Stewart argued back saying that Cuomo was the extreme left and always played the race card.
“You claim you play the race card every time because it’s the only thing you have,” he said.
For each example of racism Cuomo brought up, Stewart tried to explain himself by attacking Cuomo with unfounded allegations and without any proof.
Ultimately, Cuomo had enough and ended the interview. “This interview is done,” he said.

I feel ya. My wife and I (second marriage for each of us) were on our honeymoon on the Olympic Peninsula on Election Day in 2016, after a Halloween weekend wedding. So, the entire context of our marriage has been finding “love in the ruins” so to speak. We were doing a lot better until my wife’s mom died just before Christmas. 2018 has been a lot more of a struggle to catch glimpses of joy in a dark world. That’s the way this seems to go: the Trump horror show is like an immune system disease, in that we all feel so much weaker now when hit by any of life’s other blows.
We’re a few miles from the Canadian border. My gut feeling is that if we don’t see reasons for hope by Election Night this year, we’ll be living in British Columbia by Spring 2019. Until then, smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Pax.

This entire admin is run by sycophants, incompetents, know nothings, and Trump likes it that way because they mirror his own vanity, ignorance, and hubris.
Trumpworld is in chaos and this is just more of the same.
Sanders is pulling the same kind of statement that Tillerson and others were saying right before they resigned/quit/fired. It’s all of a kind.
She’s not denying she’s looking for the exit ramp.
Everyone knows that things are about to go from bad to worse with Cohen’s arrest imminent, as well as Mueller’s investigations continuing to rack up scalps. That’s on top of the dead cat bounce from the Kim summit and the horrific performance at the G-7. Trump’s supporters think that Trump can do no wrong, and they’re lying to themselves and everyone around him that he is helping America, all while every bit of evidence shows the contrary.
Every single foreign policy move by Trump has undermined US national security, undermined our allies and alliances, and withdraws the US from the international leadership position we’ve had for decades. The only ones who benefit from that are Russians, Chinese, and other rivals and enemies.
Add to that the fact that Trump made multiple concessions to Kim to get the summit and the “memo of understanding” without getting anything in return shows the folly of his negotiating skill. He negotiates against himself and revels in his ignorance. He showed that in boasting that he did no prep. Of course he did no prep.
He doesn’t do PDBs, so why do any prep for a meeting with a foreign leader. He treated it like a timeshare sell, and with the disastrous effects one expects when you don’t get how foreign policy works. He thought Kim’s smiling was because he agreed.
It was because Kim was getting everything Kim wanted without giving up a single concession.
Hey lawhawk, just wanted to give you one of these.

Did you see the question I suggested in the last thread?
Now I have a question of my own—how long does Ancestry usually take to send their results? Seems like I sent my spit in a long time ago.
Missed that. Great question! And thanks. To answer your other question. Should take about a month or so. When did they confirm they received your saliva?
Both Trump and Chamberlain announced (paraphrasing) “War was averted, so sleep easy tonight.” It’s scary the resemblance of procedure and rhetoric.

Um—they never confirmed it. Would they do it be email or snail mail?

And one year later, the world was at war…

Email. Maybe it went to your spam box. That’s really odd.

I’m thinking McDonough’s Song by Kipling would make a great battle chant.
Whether the State can loose and bind
In Heaven as well as on Earth:
If it be wiser to kill mankind
Before or after the birth—
These are matters of high concern
Where State-kept schoolmen are;
But Holy State (we have lived to learn)
Endeth in Holy War.
Whether The People be led by The Lord,
Or lured by the loudest throat:
If it be quicker to die by the sword
Or cheaper to die by vote—
These are things we have dealt with once,
(And they will not rise from their grave)
For Holy People, however it runs,
Endeth in wholly Slave.
Whatsoever, for any cause,
Seeketh to take or give
Power above or beyond the Laws,
Suffer it not to live!
Holy State or Holy King—
Or Holy People’s Will—
Have no truck with the senseless thing.
Order the guns and kill!
Saying —after—me:—
Once there was The People—Terror gave it birth;
Once there was The People and it made a Hell of Earth.
Earth arose and crushed it. Listen, O ye slain!
Once there was The People—it shall never be again!
Today without irony I saw a Trumper complaining Bill Maher who I don’t like FWIW sayign he wished a recession would happen and Trump would get the blame. The guy posts nothing but memes and he’s a casual acquaintence so I didn’t even bother mentioning that Limbaugh did that very thing.
Paul Begley: Did ‘Illuminati Assassins’ Target Larry Kudlow With A Heart Attack Gun? (Right Wing Watch)
Kudlow was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack earlier this week and Begley wants to know if it was somehow related to his criticism of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau following the G7 summit.
“I want to know,” Begley declared. “Are there Illuminati assassins and would they kill people to continue their agenda? I’m wondering, are there such things as heart attack guns?”
Begley claimed that right-wing publisher Andrew Breitbart mysteriously died of a heart attack the night before he was supposedly going to release a damaging video and wondered if the same forces may now be targeting Kudlow.
Falsely claiming that Kudlow had declared that “there is a special place in hell” for Trudeau following the summit—that statement was actually made by a different White House adviser, Peter Navarro—Begley noted that it was a strange coincidence that Kudlow suffered “a massive heart attack” right after he criticized the “globalist elitist” Trudeau.
Begley proceeded to link Kudlow’s heart attack to the recent deaths of designer Kate Spade and travel writer Anthony Bourdain, whom he believes may have been killed as “high profile sacrifices of the Illuminati” during the annual Bilderberg conference.
“It’s demonic or something,” he said. “Is it the New World Order? Is it the Illuminati? Are there Illuminati assassins?”

James Bond needs to ask Q for one of those.

I’m trying not to get worn down. All this shit and my personal life is a shitshow, I really just want to get in the car and set the compass due fucking north and drive til I see caribou or something. Sigh. I persevere, but it’s a struggle. I just keep wondering how on earth anything can ever be right again after this much destruction. I want out of the south so fucking bad.
[[[A Mom Anon]]]
I had the opportunity to live in the south when I was in the Navy (Virginia Beach and Jacksonville). I couldn’t wait to get out of the south as well.
(hashtag not all southerners).
There are wonderful people in Dixie. Seek them out. Things aren’t as hopeless as they might seem (if you can elect a Democrat to the Senate in Alabama, it can be done almost anywhere).

Checked the trash, the spam etc. Nothing since the original signup notification.
Maybe I’ll email them tomorrow to see what’s up. (Now I just have to remember what date I sent it…)
re: #126 Romantic Heretic
More and more I’m thinking that the so-called conservatives are preparing their own form of Janissaries.
Raise up a child in the way he should go and all that.
Trump is also raising up an entire cohort of potential MS-13 gang members or political radicals, because a kid being incarcerated for no reason, after being ripped away from his or her parents, is going to end up hating the USA and in particular Trump.
