Meanwhile Trump is launching a major war against fuel emission standards for the Kochs after transferring massive amounts of wealth to them, so on balance, Trump has been very very good to them.

And, because we need something wonderful, ladies and gentlemen—Johnny Mathis—82 years old, still does 35 concerts a year, and still has charm, charisma and wit:

“I’ve been to the White House thousands of times,” he says. Part of a politician’s job is “to be gracious. When you’re not gracious, people don’t vote for you,” he says. Mathis gestures toward President Trump, looming nearby on a massive screen, with CNN tuned to mute. “How did he slip by?”

Piers Morgan tried to explain it him during that mind-numbing interview, but I guess it didn’t stick.

Trump: They make phenomenal things, you know, and you have different names - you can say “England”, you can say “UK”, you can say “United Kingdom” so many different - you know you have, you have so many different names - Great Britain. I always say: “Which one do you prefer? Great Britain? You understand what I’m saying?’

Morgan: ‘You know Great Britain and the United Kingdom aren’t exactly the same thing?’
Trump (no—he doesn’t know fucking anything): ‘Right, yeah. You know I know, but a lot of people don’t know that. But you have lots of different names.

I’ll give you a hint: the junior Senator from Vermont.

She finished with 5.5% of the vote and finished last in every county. Nice to see the Sandbaggers back where they belong. At least she sort of endorsed the winner, Karl Dean.

I understand that Steven Spielberg wrote it down as he got it over the phone from his film class friend John Milius. Milius just started talking through the scene off the top of his head and it came to 13 pages or more, and most of it had to be cut of course. t was still one of the most memorable moments as you said.

Ah, John Milius - he may be a complete nut, but he’s certainly a damn talented nut. I can’t think of anyone else that could have taken Conan the Barbarian and elevated it from a direct to video sword-and-sorcery Z-movie into a classic of the genre. I gotta give him credit…..sometimes his creative instincts as a director* serves him extraordinarily well.

* Also he pretty much re-wrote Oliver Stone’s screenplay for Conan, which was, by all accounts, a fairly incoherent mess - and oddly enough, bore an uncanny resemblance to what would later become a Saturday morning cartoon…..Thundarr the Barbarian.

He wrote Apocalypse Now. That is something, for sure. He went broke after being swindled on something or some such and he asked the producer of HBO’s Rome if he could be in the uncredited writing pool because he was trying to pay his son’s law school fees.

The producer said he couldn’t live with himself if he went by the writer’s room every day and the writer of Apocalypse Now was in there. He paid the kids law school out of his own pocket and told MIlius not to worry about paying back until later.

The son talked about this incident in a documentary.

It is a big modern high school, so I really don’t know. But thousands???

Anyway this comment captures the True Trumper. Yes, we have them around here too.

Depends on which news stations you listen to. Did the know unemployment is at an all time low ? Bringing jobs back to America, that’s winnng. Did you hear the Russian collusiion reports are all a D issue being exposed? Did you hear him in talks with Korea ? Kim is slowing coming around to de-nuke. People on food stamps are way down? Watch FOX for a day. Listen to Rush for a while. That’s the real world. Get away for fake news. Just give it a chance. Not trying to offend you, people are waking up every day. Who has every heard of anyone that who has worked to clean up Washington before? Both parties have problems.

In today’s Hollywood, he would at least have been nominated. There was more than a bit of backlash against Jaws, due to its blockbuster success. Shaw also caught flak for his heavy drinking while filming. BTW, the monologue was written by John Milius. Originally 10 pages long, Shaw cut it down to 5.

There’s a lot of this going around, and there are businesses set up to deliver crowds for performers and the like - including for political events and meetings.

Trump has accused others of busing in people to boost crowds. Turns out that was also projecting his own scheming team’s actions.

Otherwise the sparsely attended crowds would be even lower.

Without insurance, the NRA “cannot maintain its physical premises” or “convene off-site meetings and events.”

your rights to free speech and to some extent keep and bear arms are right there in the constitution.

otoh, there is no constitutional right to liability insurance.
no one is obligated to insure you or your media presence.

LWC found this.
Paged this morning.
The Infantilization of Western Culture
In response to our worst diulemma-How did we get HERE?

We see it in our everyday speech, when we refer to grown women as “girls”; in how we treat senior citizens, when we place them in adult care centers where they’re forced to surrender their autonomy and privacy; and in the way school personnel and parents treat teenagers, refusing to acknowledge their intelligence and need for autonomy, restricting their freedom, and limiting their ability to enter the workforce.

Can entire societies succumb to infantilization?

Frankfurt School scholars such as Herbert Marcuse, Erich Fromm and other critical theorists suggest that - like individuals - a society can also suffer from arrested development.

In their view, adults’ failure to reach emotional, social or cognitive maturity is not due to individual shortcomings.

Rather, it is socially engineered.

All this conspiracy theory bullshit among the Trumpites starts at the top, with the Conspiracy-Theorist-In-Chief leading the way.

You know, this is totally like the time someone was murdered in my building. The police asked me what I was doing at the time and because I’m innocent, I didn’t tell them a goddamn thing; I just started yelling off the balcony that they should shut down the investigation ASAP.

Well, that didn’t work, so I tried shouting that nobody had been murdered. Then, when they showed me the body, I started shouting that strictly speaking, murder wasn’t a crime and if it is was a crime, then that sonofabitch I hate on the sixth floor definitely did it.

For the life of me, I really can’t understand why everyone keeps looking at me funny and saying I’m guilty.

Clearly, it’s some kind of witch hunt.

Europe doesn’t normally get those kinds of temps, and they don’t have air conditioning to the extent we have here in the US, which means they’ll see far more heat-related deaths than we would see in a similar heat wave in the US.

Alameda County (Oakland) requires that residential homeowners maintain firebreaks on their properties. A friend of ours gets together every spring with three adjoining owners, fences off their land, and sets a herd of rented goats loose to knock back winter growth. It works a treat!

The ordnance was passed after the Oakland Hills fire just south of Berkeley killed over 2 dozen people and destroyed hundreds of millions of dollars in property.

Today does not look like a good day for Manafort.

11:12 A.M.: Tax preparer: Manafort did not report foreign accounts containing millions

In early testimony Friday, the prosecution sought to highlight how Paul Manafort repeatedly denied having foreign banks accounts - even though previous witnesses have testified he used foreign accounts to fund his lavish lifestyle.

With tax documents preparer Philip Ayliff still on the stand, Assistant U.S. Attorney Uzo Asonye flashed for jurors each of Manafort’s tax returns from 2010 to 2014. As jurors peered down at the monitors in front of them in the jury box, Asonye asked Ayliff what Manafort had reported about whether he had any foreign bank accounts.

“None,” Ayliff said, repeating the exercise five times.

Asonye then turned to emails between Manafort, business partner Rick Gates and their tax documents preparer, attempting to show it wasn’t just on the returns themselves that Manafort had claimed not to have foreign accounts. One 2011 email showed Ayliff writing to Manafort, asking if he had any interest in a foreign bank account. Manafort responded he did not.

The testimony is important because Manafort is charged with, among other things, failing to report foreign bank accounts as he was legally required to do. Prosecutors must show Manafort’s failing to do so was no mere mistake.

Other emails showed the tax documents preparer inquiring about transactions that involving foreign accounts. In August 2009, for example, he wrote Manafort inquiring about a $1 million transaction that come from Deutche Bank to L O A V Advisors Limited. Jurors saw similar inquiries directed to Gates. The tax documents preparer said his firm relied on the representation of Gates, Manafort and their books, and the men never told him of accounts or tax information from Cyprus. Jurors already have heard that Manafort made payments from accounts in that country.

Ayliff said that some of the foreign companies Manafort is alleged to control were clients of his accounting firm but that he was unaware that Manafort himself had anything to do with them.

“They never told us about any income that was deposited in foreign accounts,” he said.

This does not bode well for Manafort, IMHO.

Beth Hart opened for Kenny Wayne Shepard last night at the FM Kirby Center in Wilkes Barre. I had bought tix for me and my wife months ago.
Trump was having his fascist grope-fest not far away at Mohegan Sun Arena. Stumping for that smug piece of shit Lou Barletta. And basking in the glow of the shallow end of the gene pool.
I was curious at what the traffic would be like, although he opened his sewer doors at 4, earlier than when we arrived at 5:30 to eat before the show.
Saw one guy with a sign walking along business 309 “I want my country back from Putin” and I gave him a thumbs up. One car with a Trump bumper sticker on it, older Crown Vic looking like a “police special” with antennas and searchlight. Power tripping. As I turned to head to Public Square, there was 2 tents set up with Trump swag with no customers.
That was it. Some Barletta posters on the side of the road, not many.
Concert was very good, love Beth, she opened for KWS and only did an hour and a half.
Not enough. Her guitarist seemed to be slightly off on a few tunes. It happens.
KWS had Chris “Whipper” Layton on drums and I swear he didn’t age. He was SRV’s drummer. And still has it. Kenny is a very fine guitarist, has his gimmicks, but does it well. Singing more too. Very fine time.

Manafort’s troubles are manifest with today’s testimony so far.

He attested to fact that he didn’t have foreign income. We have proof he had foreign income.

We have evidence that he lied to others, including Gates about whether he had foreign accounts. We have his tax returns that indicate that he didn’t indicate he had foreign accounts or foreign income when he did.

Each one of those relates to one of the charges.

Manafort’s defense is crumbling, and his supposed defense that Gates was the one responsible for this, doesn’t hold up to scrutiny either.

Hottest Rain on Record: Rain Falls at 119°F in Imperial, California

The temperature might have gone higher on July 24 in Imperial, but clouds streaming in from the Gulf of California brought mostly cloudy skies by mid-afternoon, and rain showers began falling at 3:53 pm PDT. At the time the rain began, the temperature was an astonishingly high 119°F (48.3°C)—a new world record for the hottest temperature ever measured while rain was falling. A series of rain showers continued to affect Imperial in the late afternoon and early evening, with the station recording light rain for four consecutive hours. Most of the rain evaporated since the humidity was only 11 - 15% during the rain event, and only a trace of precipitation was recorded in the rain gauge. Nevertheless, the July 24 rain at 119°F in Imperial sets a new record for the hottest rain in world history.

I called around to some of the businesses and city offices in Imperial to find someone who could tell me what rain at 119°F felt like, but most of the people I talked to were too busy hurrying from one air conditioned place to another at the time to notice the event. One person did report that going outside after work while the rain was falling made it difficult to breathe, and felt hard on their heart. I gave them my sympathy for suffering through this truly rare and uncomfortable event!

OK, this is a good joke I saw on Reddit. Nothing dirty or racist or anything. I’m gonna put the punchline in a spoiler tag.

A confession in a Facebook page read :

“My sister is a hottie.”

Wow… okay, I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to tell anyone about this, but it’s late and I am sleep deprived so I guess I’ll write it now and regret it in the morning.

First of all - just for some background : My mom died right when I was born, She was really, really beautiful, but this isn’t about her. I guess that’s fucked up to say, but whatever. I actually grew up with my dad’s family, because my dad had all sorts of emotional issues and he bailed before I was born. So you can see, my childhood was really kinda messed up!

Anyway, growing up, I feel like there was always a lot of distance between my sister and I. When I was about 19, I first noticed that my sister was a hottie.

I don’t want to go into too many details about it, but basically what happened is that I accidentally found a video that she made of herself. I knew she didn’t make it for me but I thought she was so beautiful that I watched it twice. I probably would have watched it a hell of a lot more, except that like right around the time I found the video, all this crazy shit went down and I had to leave home. My dad’s family, with whom I was staying, got in bad trouble with the law. I never talk about it.

So, I was totally lusting after my sister at that point. She was also having trouble with the law, and was actually in the slammer when I left home. My friend and I went to go pick her up. When I saw her that day, after seeing the video, I have to be honest, I just wanted to fuck her brains out. Looking back on it now, It’s still pretty messed up - but I think she had feelings for me too, she actually kissed me right after we came to get her… and it wasn’t a sisterly kiss, you know? I mean it wasn’t like ridiculously sexual or anything, but it definitely wasn’t sisterly!

After we left, we all went to crash with my sister’s friends. On the trip there, my friend sort of implied that he wanted to get with my sister and I got a little jealous. He’s a good looking guy - and even though she was my sister - I just felt like he was competition. Not much else happened between us for a while except some maybe-sexy hugging.

Pretty much everyone in my life at that point was wanted by the government, so we all moved around a lot. I am not saying that I’m proud of it or anything, but it was kind of an awesome time!

My friend and my sister never hooked up - I don’t think - but I thought there was some serious sexual tension going on between them. It was around that time that I got badly hurt in an accident. It was fucked up; I almost died. But when I was in recovery, my sister came to see me, and out of the blue she started giving me this awesome slow passionate kiss on the lips.

Sadly, nothing came of it. We spent some time apart and I guess you could say I found religion, so I tried not to think of her that way. It was actually going really well for a long time and I thought I was totally over her. But I have to say, like a year or so after all that stuff went down, we were out sailing and she was wearing like the hottest bikini I’ve ever fucking seen and it brought back all the old feelings. Sigh…

A little while later, she actually wound up with my friend from before. I can’t say I was surprised.

But even after she was shacking up with my friend, there was this one time we were at a party… my friend was inside, and my sister and I were outside alone. It was a really intimate moment.

I think something might have happened, except that I killed the mood when I told her that Darth Vader was our father and that I had to go face him…

- Luke

The latest in the Manafort be fucked trial. Tax evasion and bank fraud.

12:53 P.M.: Tax preparer discusses Manafort’s rental properties

The prosecution finished its questioning of tax documents preparer Philip Ayliff by asking about properties Paul Manafort claimed as rentals on his taxes. That evidence is important because, in seeking to get loans, Manafort attempted to claim these properties were for personal use, which could be evidence of bank fraud.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Uzo Asonye showed jurors an email Manafort sent to Ayliff telling him the bank UBS was raising questions as he attempted to get a loan. Particularly, Manafort told his tax documents preparer, the bank was asking about documents that appeared to show a property on Fifth Avenue in New York, was a rental, when Manafort claimed it was personal.

“It was my understanding it was a rental,” Ayliff testified. “It had always been a rental.”

Asonye showed jurors emails that Manafort had treated a property on Howard Street was used as a rental in 2015 - even though he would claim otherwise in trying to seek a loan. Tax returns show Manafort claimed to have made $115,000 in rental income that year from the property, and he claimed depreciation to reduce his tax obligation.

My question, assuming Manafort is found guilty, will trump pardon him?

Farmers around here (NW PA) use them to keep the weeds down along the electric fence lines. They will eat the weeds down to the dirt, so the weeds don’t get up high enough to start grounding the electric fence and causing problems.

It was recently reported (by Dave Meltzer) that the Saudi deal with WWE is $45M/year, though WWE is claiming the number is confidential (see f4wonline.com ).

This is for one show in KSA. And it goes on year after year for 10 years.

There’s something so hinky about this. Certainly the deal is for the purposes of propaganda, and WWE ran Saudi propaganda during the show. But the KSA would get a lot more bang for their buck by spending those millions through mainstream outlets.

Everything Trump touches is hinky. The entire Trump crime gang is involved so deeply in international shadiness that we’ll need to set up a new division of the Justice department to prosecute it all.

His motive was simple.

“I’m a broke nobody. So I will become one of the great mass murderers of American history. Everyone will know me then!”

Let’s face it. Too many Americans agree that, “The Tree of Liberty must be watered with blood!” Anything that would limit this flow of blood means that the US will fall to darkness.

When faith is challenged people dig their heels in.

I know this is probably not good of me, but all I ever see is her neck, which just seems long.

I saw reporting on this a couple gays ago.
basically the Senate still has funding for a new ice breaking in it’s version of the DHS appropriations bill, while it is missing from the House version, which appears to reflect recent changes to DHS’ funding requests.

My understanding was that he’d lost a lot of money gambling.

I’ll admit to not following the case closely. Except for body count there wasn’t anything remarkable about it. Unfortunately. :(

Reporting went back and forth on it shortly after the incident, but this final report showed him having no debt and a good number of assets. Not broke to me, but if he’d taken a lot of L’s at his gig then maybe it was for him.
